Since I already have a Giveaway of Tuneskit Screen Recorder from October and a Joyoshare Screen Recorder from December, is there any advantage to downloading and installing Bytescout Screen Capturing in the next 3 hours? Does Bytescout have the feature where you can set the start and end time for screen recording or just set how long you want it to record before automatically stopping the recording? That for me is very useful so I don't have to sit and monitor a 2 hour 25 minute training video to make sure I stop recording at the right time. Thanks for your feedback.

Can't get it to work under Vista SP2+ 32bit under both remote desktop or on the local display... soft crashes if I press the Settings button, activates business license (which has no functional difference to freeware edition which is normal for almost all bytescount SDK demo programs.)
On trying to capture using any and all of the presented options results in a crash after the popup telling me how to finish capturing.
Same errors as previous version given away a while back.
Under windows 10 it works as described and CAN capture to either WMV or AVI. The way you select WHICH video file and encoder format is used is by making sure that TAB in settings is the one selected when you hit the "OK" button to commit the settings. But with VERY restricted built in codec choices.
No directvideo or directsound codec support only old fashioned video for windows interface seems to be used which is why choices are so primitive.
It also requires .NET 2.0 to be installed on the system or a backwards compatible higher version.
Because of the limited range of codecs I would like for them to have included a lossless codec, either uncompressed or one of the readily avaiable LZW based ones so we do not have to have multiple passes of differently lossy video re-encoding just to get the final video file we want. AND add a single frame Capture to an image file so it does screen capture at least and not just screen recording which the name does not imply what it actually does as others have mentioned.
I just recorded a moderatly long 30 minutes youtube page and the resultant AVI was 3.7Gbytes in size and the AVI file produced had a broken index which VLC offered to rebuild then play, I responded Yes and the video was significantly out of sync with the sound and part way through the video the video stream paused and did not proceed further stuck at the frame it stopped at and the sound track continued on until the end of the video.

I need a recorder that will record audio as I have a program that reads text but there is no way to capture it to something like mp3, so I hope this program is able to record this audio.

how do you lose the water mark?

joe, what watermark? it does not place any watermarks! If you mean the yellow disk highlighting the cursor that is in the settings under one of the tabs... can't look it up to name the tab for you as I've uninstalled it from all my machines after thoroughly testing it.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. I've been wanting a screen recorder, that would record the closed captions on my YouTube videos. None of the free software pick up the closed captions at all. Thanks to this wonderful freebie, now I can save my videos, WITH the closed captions, and sound as well, although so far, I have not been terribly pleased with the sound quality. I probably have to make adjustments on my end, so that is not a bad mark against the program. I'm running Win10, on a wonderful old laptop. This program is EXACTLY what I have been dreaming of, as it is easy to use, right away, with no day wasted on studying how it works. YAYYY !! Two thumbs up from me !

Judith Podgurski, You can use Youtube-dl to downloading videos and if it contain, subtitles too, from Youtube and many other sources.
With Google2SRT you can download even ASR-subtitles (Automatic Speech Recognition, better than nothing) from videos that really do not contain subtitles.

Records in AVI or WMV format, does not appear to record the system audio, just either a silent recording or a microphone. There are better, more versatile screen recorders around. Uninstalled.

It records in wmv format only. Not the end of the world, as there are free converters available to convert it to a more universal format, but it's another step to be taken. No mention of the duration of the license.
Also, coudn't get the download link in Waterfox (with cookies enabled), had to switch to FF to get this.

After all this discussion — Al's comment seems the simplest which makes it clear — which does this actually do? Take a capture (screen shot) of a still, or record the video (i.e. copy it into a file)? I am confused after reading the comments.

Downloaded and registered with no problems, as far as I can tell it does exactly as it promises .The recording quality was good, and the sound excellent. Be sure to turn on the stereo mix to record from the speakers, ( sound input)I am well pleased with this excellent software, many thanks

The name is a bit odd. It infers it is screen capture but; when installing; it said I had an older version which seemed to refer to a ByteScout screen recording app that I had. It then appeared to uninstall something then install with another icon called ByteScout screen capturing. Now both icons start a screen recording app.
Screen capture in my opinion has a specific definition as in the app you get with say "DuckCapture" or "PicPick" this is not a screen capture it is a screen record, I will change the name on the start up icon.
If it was once correctly named as ByteScout screen recording then why on earth would you change the name to something misleading?

rww, screen capture will capture what you can see on the screen and usually convert it into a jpeg image that you can save or print and advanced ones will let you capture parts that have scrolled out of site and is usually activated by the print screen key.
Screen record will record a video in real time of what you can see and hear as you perform computer tasks.
Of coarse you could take still shots from your screen recording but if it’s stills you want then screen capture is much quicker.

D M, In photography terms Captures are like taking a photo and Record is like taking a Video. As photo and video have set meanings IMO so do Capture and Record.

Does it have an option to mute the microphone and only record the audio from my speakers?
That would allow me to not pickup background noise.
I said "option" because sometimes I want to record a narration on top of the video.

Mike H, Going by past experiece since this only encodes using ancient windows media libraries I'd say no serious dev work has gone into modernising it to work with windows sound subsystems to permit selection of any or all WASAPI sound sources.

Mike H, It probably does not but voiceovers are often done as a seperate audio recording after the video and it's audio has been reocorded and then the two combined in post production in the video editor and the audio downmixed to a single stereo soundtrack, it takes more planning but when done right the resultant video looks and sounds much more polished and less umms and errr effects that you get with live action unscripted voiceovers especially when one makes little slips with the mouse pointer or an alert pops up mid recording throwing you off your train of thought.
