Hi, any Recovery Program usually comes with advice - Do not install it on Drive you try to recover missing Files from. I'm not sure how it might work with Portable version. It's not 'installed' on any specific Drive, but is it safer for intance, to move it elsewhere (from desktop) in case one needs to recover Files from Drive C:? Desktop is on Drive C:. Does it matter where it's kept?

I have heard good things about Puran's other software,so decided to give this a shot-and it's PORTABLE.Here's to spending the next 5 minutes looking for house numbers, street signs, storefronts, rivers, etc.

vanierstein, thanks for reassuring me that I am not the only one being persecuted by this ridiculous captcha. (Not even sure I will pass and be able to post this.)

I wanted to recover some photos from old sd card, which had no only photos but different kind of files, and no recovery software i used could do this, and this one, allegedly found my photos but after recovery they can't be opened. SO lost case is the lost case.

This is ridicules the program downloads, extracts and opens up to the scan option window BUT, the program itself is nowhere to be found on the computer when excited. It does not appear in control panel or any uninstall program I have. It cannot be found using my installed reliable "file search" program. I did rename the setup file as suggested.

Walt, don't know if you've come back here for any replies; if you do, here's mine:

"the program itself is nowhere to be found on the computer when excited" -- Who is excited? The program or the computer? Only kidding ;-)

Wherever you downloaded and extracted the .zip file, that is where your [renamed] setup file is as well. Is it on your desktop? In a 'downloads' folder? I make it a habit to download all GotD programs to a folder I named "GotD" so that I know where to find things. Hope this helps.

My computer is using win 10. Downloaded ok. I had to change the exe file name so It put a icon on the desk top, It seems to reload each time I use it. I have not had time to test it much but it seems to work with win 10. Thanks for the soft ware.I am using a earlier version of win10. I stopped it from updating some time ago. It was giving me trouble omitting some of my programs on the frequent updates, and the win firewall was a real problem.

Worked great for me. Calling the executable "setup.exe" is somewhat confusing, there's really no setup that I can see that IS the program. As other's mentioned I renamed it to "PuranFileRecovery.exe", moved folder to a thumbdrive and it works great.

I copied the entire folder extracted on a USB key the file (64 bits) works from this key. I would try tomorrow, to see if the start is the same.

    * win10 x64 os
1st time happened in this way:-

download and click run the setup.exe
    windows pc smart screen blocks,
checked info:- a lot (can't remember)
just choose to run to see how.
then the s/w is running on my system,
no code is key in, but s/w status switch to "commercial license" from "unregistered".
took it is reistered, & checked:- is version 1.2.
accoording to info, it is not for win 10.

my habbit is to close it and then open again to check whether it is ok.
this time, cannot find it after close it.
the s/w is not on desktop, start menu, c or d drive.
do a search in system, cannot find it.

no choice, go to unzip folder, run the setup.exe again.
then the s/w come back in "commercial license" status.
so it is not installed on any drive, & i have to run in above manner if i want to use it.
then it becomes a standalone s/w.

please, can anyone confirm for my observation.

ines, I would suggest that after you unzip the .zip file, just rename 'setup.exe' to 'PuranRecover.exe' (for example) and keep it either on your desktop, or in another location that you'll remember.

I unzipped to a folder, moved the folder to Program Files and renamed setup.exe - you can create a shortcut to the exe and drag it into your start menu for easy access.

I need to recover files from :
1.Connected to PC but not accessible harddrive
    2.Erased harddrive
    3.Klicking harddrive

Is there any software which can do those jobs?

Reply   |   Comment by Chester  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-6)

Chester, scenario 1, you can use this on a USB stick and boot the non-booting computer from a WinPE/BartPE/windows to go boot CD/DVD and navigate to the plugged in USB stick and run this portable program.
Scenario 2 if you mean completely overwritten definition of erased then no software exists to recover properly erased harddrive.
Scenario 3, assuming no mechanical failure and just the controller has failed then find a known working controller board, same version and revision as the original and try replacing the original faulty control board and if you are fortunate the entire drive could feasably become fully operational and all data accessible, or use this program if the filesystem is still corrupted.

It works on Windows 10. I scanned a drive with 5000 deleted files of all types, some files it recovered OK but when I try a video file it will say it has recovered it OK and it appears (on my desktop) but when I play it it's a random music file that's been deleted instead. I've tried using some of the options but the same result. For me it's been partially successful.

    Where's the 32bit version?

Reply   |   Comment by yep  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

yep, i got the 32bit version when downloading from here in a 32bit IE9 browser in 32bit windows. I suspect the server tries to determine which version of windows the downloader has and then provides the respective version. Personaly I'd have prefered if they put both executables in the same zip archive...

In my view it's better than RECUVA since it can recover files even from RAW drives.
I used it from a while, since the Non Portable version is FREE!

Reply   |   Comment by Mario  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Mario, also better in that it permits one to define a custom file type definition for smart searching for specific byte patterns for new file header structures and extracting file size where it is stored within a definable header too. And that it can run in a WinPE/BartPE environment too.

TK, Thanks for that info! To my understanding it means this GOTD does NOT support Windows 10 despite the info given here by the GOTD crew, correct?

Trying 2 b Helpful, I downloaded both the x86 and x64 portable editions of the free version and oddly that too is only 1.2 last modified 30th Dec 2013, same as todays giveaway too. I don't use Win10 so cannot confirm incompatibility or compatability with windows 10.

It doesn't seem to install anywhere. The Setup.exe file seems to be the actual programme so it looks like you'll need to extract the downloaded .zip to somewhere you can find it later.

Marshey, Are portable programmes usually run from "Setup.exe" instead of the name of the programme, eg PuranFileRecovery.exe? Well, maybe they are. I've never had a need for a portable programme so I've never used one.

Reply   |   Comment by Jerry  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

    Marshey,
Hi, occasionally we might presume that all people know what PORTABLE Program/Software/Application means?

In case someone is New to it - it means that Program can be run from or moved to any destination on PC as that Folder where it is installed. All Files are there, that's it, portable:)

Reply   |   Comment by fran  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Jerry, I agree it's a odd set up. Usually setup.exe programs are for installing, not for running the actual program. You can rename the setup.exe to File_Recovery.exe and it still works.

Jerry, GAOTD have a habbit of calling the main executable in their download bundle setup.exe
other portable programs have been given away in a similar form before. I chose to rename mine to PuranFileRecoveryPortable.exe
