Downloaded and registered just fine. This software and registration (and maybe this should have been disclosed in the System Requirements section) ... it requies the skill to read. Follow the directions, and it registers flawlessly 3 to 4 minutes of your time.

That time is very well spent indeed. I was a fan of IZArc and 7-ZIP over the years, but their UI's are spartan to say the least. Presented here is a well crafted, full featured archive manager. At first, I felt a little uneasy with it and equated it with the aforementioned freeware. But as usual, you might be surprised by this thing called "Options". You can change skins, and even one that comes with the install is bound to make you feel better.

This software doesn't "take over your computer" or anything of the sort. ALL software needs to be configured and this is no exception. If it had no configuration option then that would be something to complain about. Once configured to your system and tastes, Power Archiver hums along happily; interferes with no one; and is always at your fingertips to do any task you need that is related to archives.

I find it hard to imagine a more versatile product than what is being given away here. In fact, I'd go so far as to say "Too bad!" for those that have missed this giveaway. But then, the trial version is always available. Give it ten minutes to be sure you have it set up to your satisfaction (nothing very technical). Take it for a spin and I am confident that this will be your archiver of choice in no time.

[Disclosure: I am in no way connected with or recompensed by ConeXware. I am simply a new user who has found software of great worth]

Praise where its due Paul.

"Paul B." has written a concise level headed and most importantly unbiased summary.

I own a paid lifetime license as well as a paid WinRAR License and I'm still not certain which program I prefer, although 7Z seems to usually be the fastest.

I usually Test all my archived downloads - just to be certain they're 100% functional (as some downloads aren't on my corrupted)

My preference would be for a Single Function that is a combination of Test & (then) Extract, (if only someone would make such a function)

I am always willing to try out what appear to be useful softwares. Upon starting the install process my AVG kicked in giving me the following error: IDP ARES Generic detected. I have been installing GOTD offerings for years and this is the first time that AVG has had a problem with the installer. Good enough for me, so this is a pass for me.

AVG is about the only anti virus that reports this because it reads the install as close as it can and not exactly as it is. AVG says it is "generic" because it can't figure out the complete structure of the supposed virus. This is a false positive. The installer is clean. You can check it with just about any other anti virus software and the installer will show clean. You have nothing to worry about. It is just one of those AVG things.

I've had this version for quite some time. I don't remember where I got it, but it has been working troublefree for me on Win7. I have used other compression programs, but this has become my favorite. It unzips files when I need it to, without taking over my computer. I've tried the last two versions of Winzip, and nearly hosed my OS both times, which disappointed me, because I always liked it in the distant past. I've used most of the others mentioned here. Also liked Izarc, but this just does what I need it to do without getting in the way, which is what I want in compression software. I haven't had any problems with it updating itself and becoming unregistered.

I have a paid version of this on my "backup" (older) computer, and I went to use PowerArchiver the other day and it told me there was an update. I let it update itself and it updated itself to a newer, unlicensed version. Since I don't use that computer much, I didn't bother with it and left it as is--maybe to be uninstalled. So you need to be very careful about updates it suggests. On my newer computer, I decided not to bother with it anyway...I have 7Zip and and older licensed version of WinZIP which meet all my needs.

I almost downloaded the GOTD anyway though today...because in general I thought the software was pretty good (though I agree with others about the user interface). However, these days, I try not to load software I don't absolutely need on my computer. I get tired of the constant need to update/patch cycle all modern software seems to be stricken with. If it's not something you are using regularly, it's just extra work! So I decided against.

Hmmm. I just got this about a month ago, and while I really like the software, as soon as it automatically

I think all GOTD is like that...if you let it update, you lose use of the program. Whenever I install a GOTD, I immediately set it so it does not update.

like the program to an extent...biggest problem i find with it is that it is NOT very user friendly....it does how ever cover what im looking for a 1 stop shop for all compression files......is so un friendly i actually had to go back to winrar for my rar files sadly. far as 7z goes i refuse to install that if dont have to....again good program for a 1stop shop compression tool but not very user friendly. thanks tho.

Power Archiver is too intrusive and overbearing, seems to want to “take over” the PC zipping function.
Do NOT allow it to associate itself to various compressed formats.
Not user friendly user interface.

You only need the following:
7Zip portable FREE
Bandizip portable FREE
IZArc2Go portable FREE
PeaZip portable FREE
ZipGenius FREE

WinRAR portable Paid (Trial software can be used after trial period expired)

For one thing, I can drag files directly from the archive into a program ... archived epub files into Calibre for instance. Can't do that with any other.

All I can say is that I tried it about 6 months ago and still use it. It helps if you have winrar installed since you can use PA to archive .rar files.

Installed and registered ok on Win 10x64. There are a few steps to get the product registered, but from what I've seen it is worth it. There are some links to helpful tuts as well. Fed up with nag screens from shareware zippers, and this one performed well when I did an experimental zipping and unzipping. The developer seems to have thought of everything with a wide variety of options. Sorry can't get more technical. Can only say that this software gets the job done quickly and efficiently. Thumbs up from me.

This is to me the best zip file program I have used it is like a Swiss Army Knife of the zip programs and it's main selling point is it simple yet powerful at the same time what I meant by simple every click was intuitive, fast and I could see what I was installing in a preview window and read the ReadMe's without opening other programs like I would have to do in other archive programs. I'll be honest here I have used this program over the years from GAOTD. I'm glad I got to update it each year. This one is a keeper. Thanks guys while there are some free ones out there this one to me is a premium player of the archive programs.

Seems like a nice product and a keeper.

One problem: Although I have unchecked all file-types and the corresponding installation option, it still took over .zip and .7z. I really prefer to keep all my file associations while testing a product. This looks like a bug in the installation process.

Thumb up in spite of the above.

Indeed. My present updated version has 10 days of use left as an unregistered version. I'm going to try uninstalling it then install today's GOTD version.

I like the program that much. Hopefully, it will work as I'm not sure I like it so much that I want to purchase it when there are free programs that meet my archiving needs, which are pretty basic.

Installed and registered in a cumbersome registration method; thought the installation had hung at times, patience is needed.

On initial opening of a file thought it wasn't working as a preview was covering the listing of the files.

Recently had had problems viewing the contents of a RAR file in fact thought it was protected however, today's download had no problems with it.

The interface is very similar to many other programs of this type and will probably prove very useful, keeping it.

Note on registration.
After filling in the information in the webpage I received two e-mails, the first had a password in it which I don't believe I used anywhere, the second, a link which I followed.
The third e-mail as a result of following the link had the registration name and the registration code, the registration name wasn't used in my registration box as it filled in "giveaway."
After all this rigmarole I was finally registered and up and running.

Thanks for the detail - The last time this was offered I tried and tried to get it registered, but could never figure it out.

It did run, even though it eventually told me I had exceeded the 'trial' period.

Once the trial period expires you must wait for a 5 second timer to count down before you can use the archived files.

Update
It looks like it had used the previous information from the last time this was offered to register.
Just in case it was time-limited I decided to use the new information to reregister; I used the new username and serial number.

A dreadfully cumbersome registration procedure that needs considerable improvement.
