Correction to my previous comment: after to relaunches, it is the Pro version... but I still have the "Activation" menu!

Sorry. I do a lot with photos and organize a couple photography groups. Was hoping this would be something I could suggest to new members. Alas I can not. First problem Microsoft flags it as an unknown source. Which can be ignored. Second issue, is on a 17" 4K laptop it opens in a 2" x 3" window, can only enlarge to maybe 3" by 8" too small to even find where to change display size. Program could use a zoom or display hot key for this. Finally, when activation is attempted, antivirus stops it, saying program is trying to reach pdfconverter.net on port 80. Uninstalled.

Reply   |   Comment by BobbyA  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13)

BobbyA, Hurry and reinstall, I have the fix for the tiny window.
Install the app, then right click on the shortcut and go to properties, then look at the Compatibility tab at the top and pick the Change high DPI setting button, then click the Override high DPI scaling behavior checkbox, then set it to System

Reply   |   Comment by gru  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

BobbyA, I'm using a 22 inch screen and I can enlarge it to fill the screen, although I have to manually pull the borders out.

Reply   |   Comment by Richard Woodley  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

gru, Thanks! I reinstalled the program and was able to get it to use more screen area. I ended up getting rid of it again for it's other lack of features. Windows was never happy with the source not being trusted. However no raw file handling, and not able to see effect of slider changes until slider released were deal breakers for me. Good suggestions for improvement BTW.

Reply   |   Comment by BobbyA  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

gru, I tried that and while it did not give me quite full screen a lot closer to it.

I wish the icons at the top would show a label when mouse-overing them so I knew what they did without selecting them. I have not found any auto functions yet but lots of useful manual adjustments to look at when I have more time. I would recommend checking it out.

Aha. Addendum added.

Resize screen by dragging edges to wherever you want and save as JPG simply by naming the file with a .jpg suffix i.e. Barry.jpg.
That worked :)

Reply   |   Comment by J.Barry  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

J.Barry, renaming the file extension to JPG in the export dialog does produce file with the name having the JPG file extension but if you open the program in say Irfanview it will report that it is a PNG named as JPG and will offer to correct the wrong file extension to PNG. You can verify this by looking at the files contents in say HxD.exe or any hex editor and the first few bytes are clearly a PNG file header and not a JPG file header.
The exported file size should be a clue that it is not using JPEG or any other compression in any form.

Installed easily. You do have to drag the edges of the program border to get it near full screen. I trust you will fix that soon and since free updates are included I will check back for updates.

Downloaded and installed - needed to create a folder or files get dropped wherever. Beware!

GUI looks fine with a very large array of sliders to change a huge number of settings and enable control of individual colours better than I have found elsewhere but before altering any setting the title of that section needs to be highlighted first. Quite sensible.

The issue I have found is that when adjusting the sliders (Always a bit clunky) the corresponding strength number adjusts but the number itself will rise and fall with the mouse wheel. NICE, except it isn't because that has no effect whatever other than changing the number - just not the setting. In fact you can place cursor next to number and type in whatever number you like, still to no effect.
The slider is the ONLY way to alter these settings which is a shame - but perfectly acceptable.

Not being able to save in JPG is a bit odd but also sadly it lacks access to context menu to allow a copy/paste - another huge omission to me.

This feels much like a 'work in progress' and it has promise so 8 out of 10 for effort but sadly just 6 out of 10 for result so far. Worth keeping anyway for the control of colour, especially useful when bringing 70's photos to life.

Got it downloaded and installed and activated easily without any problems. Runs fine and pretty fast, but doesn't do anything a normal photo editor can't do. There are no overlays included in the effects. So no magic here. However, it can be used for quickly looking at different editing settings for a photo if you're in doubt where to take you editing. Well, I'm probably not gonna use this very often, but thanks anyway!

I can't seem to install this. I exited my virus software (Kaspersky) before downloading this. It seems to download just fine, but whenever I try to run the installer, it gives me this message: "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk." And the only option is to click "Don't Run". I'm not sure what to do. I have Windows 10, 64-bit.

Dax, before you attempt to run any executable downloaded from a trusted source right click on the downloaded file and select properties and then click on unblock... if you do that before running the file or extracting the zip file windows will no longer try and block the running of downloaded programs. If you need to be reminded every time that ALL downloads from the internet come with a risk of it not being developed by a compitent or non-malicious developer leave the downloaded files blocked Select More information and make your choice and take your chances!

Error has to do with Visual C++. The above link is a bit dated, but perhaps it will help lead you in the correct direction. Would appear that you may need to install some version of Visual C++ Runtime.

giveaway, why have you used the name "giveaway"? What are you giving away?

Some systems deny new programs access to the internet by default and particularly BAD firewals do not tell you that they are blocking an attempt to access the network and you only find out by the program failing to perform some activity and you have to dig down into an obscure user interface to enable a particular program to access the network. Decent firewalls will ALWAYS notify you a process attempted to access the network and give you the option to decide what to do about it... i.e. permit future connection attempts silently, block future connection attmepts silently, or block for now ask me again in the future so I can decide if the network connection is really needed for your use of the program.

Of course vendor activation server could be overwhelmed by a few thousand activation attempts but at this point in GAOTD life that should not really be a problem unless the activation server is running under windows 98... modern server software can handle tens of thousands of requests per second on relatively modest server hardware.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Support Team, tried installing this and while it works the activation user interface is still there and if used demands an active internet connection.
There apears to be no GUI indication this builds installation is activated other than no apparent detrimental effects in exported uncompressed PNG output... assuming there was some watermark or exporting was prohibited in the unactivated installation.
IF the installation that this produces is pre-activated will that pre-activation survive any future update as opposed to upgrade and will future updates that are included in the giveaway offering be differentiated from non-free version upgrades that should invalidate the giveaway license? And will the ability to export to a compressed format like compressed PNG or JPEG or TIFF LZW be offered as an update or be classed as an upgrade even though the tools you will use to do the compressed export will likely be freely avaialble 3rd party libraries like image magic or the JPG creation procedures in the existing 3rd party DLL libjpeg-8.dll you use?

install and activation no problems but...this text is in the read me:
"Terms and conditions
Please note that the software you download and install
during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support
2) No free upgrades to future versions
3) Strictly non-commercial usage"
furthermore it starts with a small window, it is possible to change that in the properties but when the window is set aside to grab and drop a photo it is small again and you have to end and start it again to obtain full screen again !
Also when using the before and after view zoomed in one of the views keep changing to full view after making a change.
It could be a nice program but it still needs some tweaking .... in this state not for me, deleted again!

Download, install, activate, "push pull click click just that slick" as the Schick Razor Blade commercial used to say. I gave it a try and it quickly does a great job easily... yes, you could do it in PS in an hour or so! It exports as a PNG which is fine, if needed you can convert to JPEG later. PNG format has advantages over JPEG.

If you look at the blue box at the top of this page where all the details and, it literally says what ouialaraison wrote, "Lifetime, FREE updates". Now that may be incorrect, but that is what it shows.

David Ward, It is a free update.

ouialaraison, The GOTD page shows free updates but the text file states:
Please note that the software you download and install
during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support
2) No free upgrades to future versions
3) Strictly non-commercial usage
Which is correct?

David Ward, what is on the readme file is what usually goes with all giveaways. My guess is that they forgot to change it specifically for today and that what is said on top of this page is correct.

David Ward,

As you might expect.
You get free UPDATES to THIS version if any become available but no free UPGRADES to later versions .

flognoggin, It looks as if only png files are supported. Use Windows Paint to open the saved png file and then save it as a jpg.
