Never got the activation email yesterday, haven't received it today either (even though the giveaway's over) and obviously never will. A frustrating waste of time trying to download this.

I posted yesterday #20. Received a link to download the Trial program. I did NOT receive a copy of the License Key. The program will not give the key, just the error code.
I need a copy of the License Key sent to me, or I can not install the Giveaway.
Please email me the Key.
Thanks

Every software offering from SoftOrbits has become unregistered after a VERY short while. I avoid them like a virus!

Canceling a giveaway registration is simply dishonest. I refuse to buy, try or use any product from a dishonest company.

I found that if I refreshed the page on SoftOrbits where they tell you to check your email, it comes back with a place where you can enter your name and email and they will give you the activation key right there. Don't know why there is a problem with receiving it through email but hey, this works!

II have not been able to install the software, even as an administrator. When I click on the "Get Free Activation Key" I receive a “Pop up” Application Error that states:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.”
This needs to be fixed. I need a copy of the License Key sent to me.
Thanks.

Thank you GOTD & Soft Orbits, this is a really good software if you work with photos and do a lot of photoshoping or editing and have a need to remove something from a photo and blend things the easy way without having the spend a lot of time to do so. Save's time for such things.

The only thing I don't like about the software is that it does not have a .8bf file like most Soft Orbit software's have. It's a keeper for me either way. Although having a .8bf file to add it to Paint.net and other photo editing softwares would be a great addition in my opinion. I mean in all honesty, this type of software for serious photo workers can be done with ready made in house actions, but adding a plugin the make it readily available as a plugin would make it a lot more valuable.

Either way, Thank you to, GOTD for smooching and kissing enough to get along with Soft Orbits and take it like a man an offer this to others as they have done... Thank you GOTD for giving it all!!!!.........

Rebooting KARL STYLE!!!!!

Registered and installed in 5 minutes. This software changes whatever you select to white. Might be useful to some, but I prefer Inpaint, the industry standard for editing out objects.

Windows 10 anniversary Update, AMD quad core processor with 8g DDR 3 ram. I uninstalled previous version for a clean install. Got activation immediately. No problems with install. I have used this program on some simple pictures so I thought I'd test this version with a more complicated picture. I tried to do a stained glass picture and tack the wall out behind it. It may have been my highlight lines but it cut out part of the window. I do like it for simple jobs.

luckily, the code is accepted, and run as GOTD copy.
simple interface with few function.

To do more than adjust things like overall color tint or make a photo lighter/darker, image editing software has always included tools for making selections, which are also referred to as masks -- it was there in the software that would become Microsoft or Windows Paint in the early 90s. Basically you select areas or parts of an image to alter, cut, or copy/paste -- in the context of today's GOTD you select part of an image, copy it, then paste it into a new document or layer [when/if your image editor supports layers].

Creating a selection or mask isn't difficult but it can be tedious, time--consuming work, so specialized tools, both in-app & stand-alone, have been developed over the years. The only add-on tool I've ever seen recommended by pros is Topaz Remask [topazlabs[.]com/remask ].

The good news is that Photo Background Remover automates this process. The bad news is that the results often do not measure up to what's possible manually. You get faster & easier at the price of lower quality. That's not necessarily a bad trade-off...

If you're not about to spend the time making a difficult mask or selection, which can take more than an hour, Photo Background Remover could be the answer. And depending on your project, less than perfect quality is very often good enough. OTOH as a stand-alone tool, there's less that you can do with the part of the photo that you select, and mileage will vary depending on the colors and composition of the image you're working with.

The example family photo on the product page has a consistent background with a limited range of colors, which will work better than if that background was made up of several different objects, each a different color. And re-imagining a studio-type shot like that might be something Photo Background Remover is particularly suited for. The same with the example of women's shoes... if you're going to put a product shot up on ebay, you'd take the photo against a solid color background, & might use Photo Background Remover to remove that background for pro-looking results.

Installed & registered okay on Win 7 64 bit.
First trial worse that unimpressive. Didn't remove the background, just odd chunks of it, leaving a garbled mess. Thumbs down from me.

True, Softorbits giveaways are gimmicks. Registration expires mysteriously even if you take care not to update the software. Emailing them is no use. They neither provide any answer or solution.

Like many others I have had problems with SoftOrbits programs "unregistering" when later programs from them were installed. I spent some time corresponding with them and did some tests they requested. They then gave me new registration codes and I have had no further problems. I like their programs, they work well, and I found their people very friendly and helpful so I will certainly try this update. Ron

I have not tested it extensively but this application is almost similar to InPaint. If you like InPaint you don't need SoftOrbits Background Remover and vice versa.

Downloaded, installed and registered without any problems on Win10 (64bit). Tried the software out on a few random pictures and removed the backgrounds without any problems. I like the idea of the red (remove) and green (don't remove) markers, it makes life so much simpler and it does the job quickly. Thanks.

Windows 10. Lucky me. Old version still active, mind you I have never allowed it to update. Uninstalled old version. Installed new version and activated easily - approx 15 minutes. No time to try it but keep for when needed.

Reply   |   Comment by David Murphy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-27)

David Murphy, It seems you have never used the old version and that may be the reason it was still active.
I used it twice and on the third use it said "trial has expired, do you want to update now", but was registered before it.

David Murphy, "Lucky me. Old version still active, mind you I have never allowed it to update."

Nobody else allows it to update either . . . and that's been the frustrating thing with SoftOrbits. Many of us find out that our programs from this vendor eventually become 'deactivated' -- through no actions on our part.

Terry E,

It does say, ". . . . . helps to clear digital shots from unwanted background in batch".

So presumably it lets you decide what is "unwanted".

I went to my previous installation to check what version it was and typically of Soft Orbits, the license had "mysteriously" expired. Is it worth downloading this, or anything else from this company I wonder.

Reply   |   Comment by Nigel  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+96)

Nigel,

After reading your comment I went and looked at three installs from SoftOrbits. All mysteriously deactivated as well. "Giveaway" means to give freely, and that is not what happened here. With three of my instances, and yours, and no doubt others, there is a misunderstanding at SoftOrbits of what this term "giveaway" means. Moderators, you know what I say is true, and if you delete my comment you are simply being punks.

Reply   |   Comment by Andre Rodrigs  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Nigel,
The giveaways from SoftOrbits, as well as most given away here, do not come with updates as part of the registration/license. With SoftOrbits, I have found you get the version for lifetime but if you update it to the latest version or get a new computer your lose the "full version". So, when a new version comes out, grab it from here when they gift it to us. I have not updated any of my SoftOrbits and they are all still full license. Please remember that these companies are giving these away...on their terms. They are in business to make money and giving us programs for us to try and comment on. We are suppose to be test subjects. Then we are to let them know what works and what doesn't so they can improve it or whatever. Hopefully we like it enough to spread the word for them to sell to others. With that said, I have used their products, and they are pretty decent alternatives to not being able to get Photoshop!

Exploro,

I installed SoftOrbits Photo Retoucher and Photo Editor from GOTD back in 2015. Both appear to be still registered okay, but I have to admit I haven't used them. Maybe they update (and expire) on use?

I agree with you about the word "giveaway", which is rapidly becoming devalued.

(On a related topic, I also wish GOTD would stop offering trials of licenseware (the ultimate ripoff), except in the case of Antivirus products and similar which constantly NEED to be updated by the developers. An annual fee for using e.g. a wordprocessor, video editor, etc. is unjustifiable and I avoid them.)

Reply   |   Comment by FriedHaggis  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Nigel,

Well- when I see here a time- limited license for a static program (mean- a program which doesn't need support on daily base)- usually I vote down because of this reason. I couldn't consider such a program as a giveaway. Maybe trialware, maybe shareware, but not a giveaway.

I don't like this GOTD practice- to offer us a shareware as free. But that's me, maybe others like it.

However- the above situation is a lot better then today's one! Not even mentioning about license expiration? What the…

How I can trust to companies like this? Do they really expect me to pay for some of their products? How I can be sure that if I pay the license will not expire at some certain time?

My humble opinion is- the GOTD have to reconsider their policy to companies like this. At least to force them to announce the license terms to us. Sounds fair to me.

And- by the way- dear SoftOrbis- anything about the todays giveaway? Is it a giveaway, or "giveaway"?

Thank you in advance!

Nigel, Most of their software expire 2-6 months after installation, but the windows registry is full of 1000s of useless entries that may crush some other software due to the facts that defaults are reset to favor expired SoftOrbits software.

Exploro, Curious if there is an auto-update feature for this and the other apps you mention, and did you have that checked? Since generally no updates are allowed for Giveaway apps, maybe that is the problem. Please check and let all of us know.

This developer was on here last year in the wake of continuing complaints about mysteriously de-activated software. Soft Orbits apologised for what it claimed was "a problem" but which had now been fixed.

Hmmm. It's a highly unusual "problem" that results in someone suddenly losing an activated program. Almost as if that computer's functioning has been selectively interfered with, not by accident but by design.

The developer has been told time and again to stop treating people as if they're idiots, but to no avail. Absent any sign of developer integrity then, it's best for everyone to protect the integrity of their own computers by never allowing a Soft Orbits product or promotion anywhere near.
