This program has a lot of uses. For example, I don't need a copy of an equipment manual in 12 different languages taking up 200MB of disc space when I only need it in one language that will use <20MB. This program would be very useful to me except for the fact that the free version leaves an extremely annoying watermark, advertising itself, on every split page, rendering the resultant file totally useless if I need a "professional" looking copy.

Jeff Marsh, in your circumstance I'd just load the multi-language manual into a PDF viewer and print the range of English or chosen languages to a free PDF virtual printer, like the one provided with the free Nitro PDF reader 3 called "Nitro PDF Creator" Job done quickly and cheaply.

Jeff Marsh,
I agree, extremely annoying watermark. That is why I chose to download this offer. If you download this offer and use the 'read me' file that includes the email name and registration number, the watermark goes away. Sweet!

I volunteer for an international non-profit that publishes A LOT of manuals. Often the manuals are hundreds of pages. As an instructor, it is easy to supply students only the pertinent class material by using this pdf splitter. It is easy to use and fast. I have used the watermark version. Thanks to GOTD and Wonderfulshare for a watermark free version.

What's the point in this product?
Just print the pages you want on a PDF printer such as "Microsoft Print to PDF", and this will result in a PDF file with only this portion.

In addition, Google Chrome has a built-in PDF viewer and printer. Open a PDF file in Chrome, click print, choose the pages you want, then hey presto.

I used a scrolling screen capture program to capture this entire GOTD page as a PDF, hoping that PDF Split Pro would be able to chop it up. It doesn't. The PDF you use must already contain pages.

Searching my storage drive for all PDF files, many of my PDFs over 20MB in size are tech manuals and catalogs. Two are over 100MB in size. There are servers and email providers that limit the size of what can be sent over the internet. Being able to chop them up into smaller pieces would be most helpful.

Probably the most useful feature is "Split by specific page ranges to multiple PDF files. (Example 1-4,5,6,8,12,17-19)". PDF Split Pro allows you to chop up and extract only those pages you intend to use. Doing this manually would be tedious and time consuming.

Negative: Most PDF books contain a table of contents page with links that can jump you to specific chapters. This feature will be lost. The links will no longer work.

I won't be using PDF Split Pro everyday, but I have enough of a need for it that it's worth keeping.

CJ Cotter, hi there, is there really a software that can split a long 1-page PDF done by scrolling capture? It'd be wonderful and extremely useful given the fact that many of us, including myself use screen capture to pdf converter.
Thanks in advance...!

CJ Cotter, many email programs allow you to specify the max size email to send via an email account and it will then auto cut attachements into sub-limit size multi-email attachment that once all are received the other end can be reconstituted and the large attachment saved off. But nowadays the more accepted solution is to use some free cloud storage and share an uploaded file publicly but only give the URL to the recipient in an email.

Obviously none of these methods are 100% secure so never put any file you can't live with becoming public knowledge on a computer even if its encrypted!

Where the last page contains nothing but a header it might be useful to shear it off, but I get around that by printing it with my PDF printer and nominating all pages but the last, so this one's usefulness would even be dubious for that.

Similarly, if the PDF was too big to email, you could use this, but reprinting (in several chunks) as in my first paragraph overcomes that as well. Moreover, there are free online programs that will reduce the size of a PDF anyway.

Again, if only several pages are wanted, reprinting and nominating those pages fixes that.

Overall, at the moment I can't think of a use for this program either.

I have a use, I'm trying to extract a page of my income tax pdf, sign it, scan it, and reinsert it.

Reply   |   Comment by Douglas T  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Douglas T, if you cannot properly digitally sign the document, you are supposed to print the entire pdf, complete and sign where required, then scan all the pages into a single PDF so each page is consistent with each other. If you hack the PDF file so just one page is scanned the resultant PDF file could be rejected as it is not consistant.

Splitting a pdf is useful if you wish to extract certain useful pages from the original file and send those limited pages to someone.

I think this will be very useful software. Sometimes I end up with unwanted extra pages when I print to a PDF file. This software allows me to get rid of them. Download and installation was easy. How to register wasn't clear but I accomplished that by selecting the "upgrade button" in the software and entering the registration email and key provided in the unzipped readme file.

Thanks for this give away of the day. I also use the very nice Wonderfulshare PDF merge which was a previous giveaway of the day.

Useful for splitting parts out of downloaded manuals: remove the foreign language sections, removing a pertinent section to email when giving support. Can remove extra pages after you printed to PDF.

I could not install program at all. After running setup, shows small screen with information: successfully activated, but program is not installed.

vel,

The same thing happened to me. I discovered that the culprit was Avast. So I disabled it for 10 minutes, and after the installation started, I immediately re-enabled Avast again, and everything went well afterwards.

Maybe, your antivirus is doing the same to you.

Hope it helps.

I'm amending my previous comment about the watermark. I received a reply, and figured out that I had to put split.com in the e-mail field.
I have a very large PDF file that I had been having trouble e-mailing, because of the file size, but this software works great for splitting the file, and allowing me to e-mail it in sections.

I'm not certain if I'd have a lot of use for this program as for me a pdf file is useful in keeping everything together as one file.
If the pdf file was too big to fit in a certain space (memory stick) then slitting it would be useful but most pdf files are not very large.

Maybe someone else can think of a better use for this program.

Brian,
if you only need one page from a large file this is great.

Reply   |   Comment by Bill  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Brian,

1. What is really useful is to delete individual pages from a PDF file. Not just to reduce size, but possibly to remove sensitive information if you are sending the file to another person.

2. What would be even more useful would be to make a new PDF file with pages combined from two or more PDF files.

Does anyone know if this software will do Item 2?

Reply   |   Comment by Mike H  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Brian, one example of wanting to split out parts of one pdf file is when you need only a portion of the pdf. For example: there are times when I do not want or need the first few pages and the last few pages of a pdf. I would use this type of software to strip out these particular page numbers and the software then creates a 'subset' of the original pdf. Or I could select every other page, and the program would create a new pdf that contains only those pages.
