I tested to see if I can accomplish this program's function another way with what capabilities I already have. I opened a newsletter PDF I've received with text and graphics that is password protected, printed it to a new PDF file using Win10 Microsoft Print to PDF, and the result came out 6 Kb (about 0.2%) smaller than the original file. So I think this program is unnecessary for me.

Maybe I'm missing something special but when I get a password protected PDF like a bank statement I'd like to have unprotected I just open it in Chrome, (enter the password), click Print, select Save to pdf, (enter the password again) and store it to the hard drive. This creates a new pdf unlocked for access and editing. Does this do anything additional?

This is the same version (3.0.0.1) that was given away here at GOTD on June 13, 2001. The supported operating systems in 2001 were XP to Win 10. Today, they are Vista to Win 11. Therefore, this should install just fine on XP (in case anyone needs it for XP).

Windows 10 didn't even exist in 2001....

The software is useless. It asks for password to remove password. Which means if I lose my password this software cannot remove the password from the file which some free softwares are able to do.

Installed and went to the site page link that was shown in the readme but it doesn't offer me a way to register. What's up with that?

I don't get it. If you already know the password, you can open the file and print it to PDF. Then you don't need the password anymore.

Perryntx, I guess this might be a program for commercial use. Where a manager has several files to unprotect. For me, I would not need it. Thanks anyway!

So, this tool can remove unknown or forgotten passwords?

What versions of Acrobat PDFs will this work on--the oldest and the latest?

@Peter I provide help-desk support at an accounting firm. I use a similar program for the accountants.

A lot governmental forms and brokerage/bank statements are password protected to prevent changes. I'll strip the passwords off so the accountants can add the documents to the client's CDO. Otherwise they'd have to print file and then scan it back into pdf format. Helps save a few trees.

Or you could open the PDF in your browser, enter the password, and then PRINT to "Microsoft print as PDF" to create a new PDF file without a pasword.

Please forgive me if I fail to see any value in this program.
As far as I can tell, you need to know the password in order
to remove the password. Am I wrong?

Peter

Peter, removing is something else than retrieving or hacking.

Peter, You are correct... Very useless app. Why should I download the app when I have to know the password to the document to make the app work?

Reply   |   Comment by Saint  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Peter, there are two password types for PDF files. One controls the rights to print or copy contents or edit etc and that does not require the existing password to have those password controlled restrictions removed. The other type of password protection controls the content encryption and is required to even view the PDF content, that requires the original password to decrypt the content, one assumes this decrypts the contents and saves the decrypted content thus removing the need for the password.

Peter, You are forgiven.
With password remover softwares (there are lots of them out there), the user does not need to know the password.
I find it immensely useful. So many financial companies issue their monthly statements with passwords, so I cannot add notes, or mark them "reconciled." They call this "security," but I call it "paranoia." I mean, who is going to edit a PDF file, changing the bank balance from $2,000 to $20,000, and then accuse the bank of robbing them?

Mehul, if you know the password, just load the file and go to property to remove it, it is that simple. You do not need this software.

Saint, Peter, and others who think this is a useless app:

This app comes in handy when you have a password protected document that you have to send to someone else and you don't want that person to know the password. For example, if I have to send my bank statements to my accountant, I first remove the password and then forward the pdf to him.

Mehul, If I forgot password of my own file that I created some years back than is it fraud to remove password from my own file.

Reply   |   Comment by Amit Ray  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

Mehul, you just need to virtual-print a pdf file and then you "remove" the password in that file. You don't need any program. This software misleads the users that don't know this very simple trick. Nobody needs such a trash program. Not all are crooks when intending to open a protected file without having the password. I looked here because I have two protected documents belonging to me, but I don't have the password anymore. It's a fully legitimate action, but this crappy thing doesn't help anybody at all.
