We can remove password from PDF files anyway via Print method (if you know the password). So, unless these password removers are capable of removing unknown passwords, they are useless.

I have had several files that I lost the password to, mainly due to losing the P/W file stored on a flash drive which no longer works. Would this program help? or is there anything out that could?
Thank you.

If I go to the XenArmor website (link on the right), it tells me I'm using an outdated version of Firefox and then downloads a Zip file. I'm not actually using Firefox. Seems pretty dodgy.

Most people don't understand that a PDF can have two kinds of password.
- First is the one you would need to open and read the file. The software given here won't remove that, you mostly need brute force to find it and it will take years.
- Second one is the one you would need to edit and make changes in the file, like deleting one page. That is what this software is able to do, like many others can do (online or offline). Another solution in Win10 is simply to print the file using "Microsoft print to pdf", it will built a new pdf file with no editing restriction (bigger file though)

Pdf's can have two distinct passwords levels. One level prevents opening the pdf, unless you know the password. As I understand it, this program does not address that password level.

The second level does not bar anyone from opening and viewing the document, but it does bar one or more various manipulations of the document. Those restrictions can be put on the document by the author or any other person. They are:
Printing
Changing
Assembling
Copying
Extraction
Commenting
Filling in form fields
Signing
Creating a template from the document

As I understand it, this program claims to be able to remove that level of password, so as to give you the ability to make those manipulations.

If it is difficult to view the screenshots above, click on them. They will increase by around 30%.

It works. After activating, I searched Google for a password protected pdf example file (Hint: NovaPDF site).

I ran it through PDF Password Remover Pro to generate a new file, then used PDF Architect 8 (Free) to verify the original downloaded pdf was locked, and the new generated pdf was unlocked.

Thanks!

Masmer, If I read properly, it removes an unknown (from you) password which is great. Am I right?

Reply   |   Comment by PaulF  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

PaulF, it doesn't remove the password from PDF files which need a password to just open and view, those require bruteforce cracking.

It creates a duplicate copy of the file that removes various permissions that people like HJB (#9) posted above.

Sometimes PDF like bank statements have a password to prevent merging files, extracting or deleting pages, printing...
I use Free PDF Password Remover V3.4 from 4dots Software. It is free and works very well.
It won't remove the password to open the file, but will remove editing restrictions.

The note, at the end of the software description, says: " If open password is set then the right password needs to be specified to unlock it."

It is not clear to me what benefit this software brings to the user.

Does this do anything more than the set and remove password function of Adobe Acrobat?

A true password remover has the ability to remove a password that is unknown.

HJB, this software removes the password to edit the file, not the password to open it.

so this program removes the password if you know the password, by entering it which sounds the same as trying to open a password protected PDF file and when it asks for the password, you enter it. Voila! no difference and from what I see, totally unnecessary.
I want a program that will remove the password, that I forgot, for me.
What have I missed in the description that makes this a valuable program?
Enlighten me.

Bob, this software removes the password to edit the file, not the password to open it.

Bob, Right?!? If I needed to get into one of my password protected PDFs, I'd just use the software I made the PDF with. This offering seems more like a security risk than a helpful utility, as you have no way of knowing what it's doing with your personal information and passwords. I appreciate them offering something up, but I wouldn't recommend using it, since it merely duplicates the unlocking of PDF files you can already do with the original password, whether it's Adobe Acrobat or Master PDF Editor. $30? I wouldn't pay a single cent for this. Heck, I could write a simple script to unlock password protected PDFs I created and have the password for.

Bob,

There is value in removing a password you know, and then not having to enter the password the next 10 times you open it.

MICHAEL F HENRY,

I tried it and it works perfectly. The file it saves can subsequently be opened without inputting a password.

MICHAEL F HENRY, I am responding because I made an error, as I violated my own rule when it comes to software. That is, the absolute best software/operating system in the world is the one which fits *YOUR* needs. That's all that matters. That I would have no use for this software, doesn't mean Jack. If even one person finds this software to be a useful utility in their personal software toolkit, I am truly happy for them. I also profoundly apologize to the manufacturer and GOTD as well, as I'm sure my personal bias about utilities may have caused someone to not give it a chance.

Since ther are so many of these programs out there why does anybody bother with putting passwords on their PDF files ?

Reply   |   Comment by Richard Woodley  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Richard Woodley,

oops, I didn't read carefully enough, but why do you need a special program to remove a password you put on a file, or why not just tell everyone the password ?

I don't understand the NOTE, "If open password is set then the right password needs to be specified to unlock it"
Say I have a PDF which I don't have it's password, will this app open it or not?

Reply   |   Comment by ad  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+37)

ad, It certainly seems it will not. If I understand, this isn't some "hacking" password program but will allow anyone who knows the file password to remove it.

Registred ok to Pro personal edition.
------------------------------------------------------------
You need to enter the password, if you want to remove it, else you will have this message:

"Error: Unable to remove password or restrictions. Please try with correct password."

If you want to work with folder with more than 5 files, you will have this message:

"Stopping operation now as maximum limit (5) is reched. Personnal Edition supports up to 5 pdf files in a folder".
