Very capable application to manage and optimize computer services, but some how complicated and disabling certain options may led to issues and unexpected behavior

I installed this and applied it slowly and carefully. It asked whether I used ethernet or wifi, and I said ethernet because I only use wifi ocasionally. But now my access to wifi is completely gone and my computer does not seem to to know anything is wrong. I tried undoing the changes, but my wifi is still gone. I tried two different driver update utilities, but they didn't pick up any missing drivers. Asking whether I use wifi is not the same as as asking whether I want my wifi taken away forever. Can somebody tell me how to get my wifi back please? Will uninstalling the program bring it back? If it won't, then this "free" program has slashed $1,000 off the value of my laptop.

I just uninstalled the program and it was the only thing that brought my wifi back. This is an appropriate Halloween offering because it's one scary program.

I STRONGLY suggest you "Create a Restore Point" before using this program. That will provide a way of escape in case it bongs your system!!

In the search box on the taskbar, type "Create a restore point", and select it from the list of results.

On the System Protection tab in System Properties, select Create.

Type a description for the restore point, and then select Create > OK. Use: Before Optimizer Pro

Thank you Amachiam and Pica for sharing your {BAD} experiences with this software.
Someone suspected you have ill intention towards this software developer company.
But in the Internet world there are also SHILLS who praise a software in an over-the-top way.

Personally I stay away from these "services optimisation" products.

If you are a control freak and want to take the risk of messing your perfectly good computer just hoping to spare a few milliseconds here and there, you could try Ultimate Windows Tweaker for Windows 10. It is free and works well but you must know what you are doing. Cheers

Apparently some commenters did not even tried PC Services Optimizer, as they are comparing it and recommending tools like CCleaner, ASC and other Registry optimizers. PC Services Optimizer is different being a Windows services manager that can optimize system performance by only tweaking the services startup settings.

Reply   |   Comment by Ahmed  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

Thanks, [ Ahmed ], but we can't even get the license number - see "... The alleged get key page only leads back to the giveaway page. Total botch ..." Comment by Norman, and many comments by others saying the same.

Until we can try the software, all we can do is speculate.

Such as explaining that "... only tweaking the services startup settings ..." is all that ANY service optimizer can do, including free Kerish Doctor.

"... only tweaking the services startup settings ..." means turning services on and off, and when.

It might be interesting to check out PC Services Optimizer Pro 4.0.1047, but apparently not today, not here at GOTD, not this time around.

Is there any solution yet at GOTD to actually distribute licenses for today's giveaway?

Or are we all taking a day off, and the vendor can try again some other time?

Note, I got a response via GOTD email saying:

"... Peter Blaise, Please contact us at [ support@smartpcutilities. com ] and we will provide you with a license code. It is not our responsibility to deliver the codes, however we will do our best to fix this ..."

    Nope.

1 - We do things out in the open on the web so ALL can participate.

2 - This is GOTD, and if the problem is GOTD, then GOTD must fix the problem, or toss the day and the vendor.

3 - If the vendor is unable to work with GOTD, then we need to know, and make our own decisions appropriately.

Thanks, but nope, all solutions at GOTD must be on the public GOTD web discussion thread, that's why we come here to GOTD, we do not expect to see, or not see, some hidden solutions for some people that are denied to others who do not write in but are watching and refreshing the GOTD web page every hour or so to see if a solution has been broadcast.

Thanks, but I await a public resolution to the problem, a resolution for everyone on GOTD.

Obviously PC Services Optimizer is not intended for careless users, you should choose every option carefully. PC Services Optimizer won't touch your Internet connection unless you disable options under Internet & Network section in the User Profile dialog box.

PC Services Optimizer has nothing to do with deleting drivers or changing Internet connection settings, it only adjust services startup to according to your profile.

Ahmed, I am not a careless user and I ended-up losing the driver on my Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter. I had to roll my computer back to get things working.

Norman, it doesn't dele any drivers, but it's able to disable a service that grant you internet connection. As, Ahmed mention : be carefull using this program. I don't trust System Restore, so I let the free version of Aomei Backupper make a full system backup. If I'm out of luck or just plain stupid, I restore the settings. Just rememer, this is NOT a "one click optimizer". I hope, you'll give it a try. That will save you a lot of time setting the tweaks manually. Greets from Denmark :)

Your app installed, but with a small hiccup when it came to using it.

In order to perform an Automatic Optimization, as series of categorical Y/N questions have to be answered.

If you leave one or more of the questions unanswered, Automatic Optimization cannot be performed.

In my case-- installing on a Lenovo T500 running Windows 8.1-- for almost every question the text of the question ran through and behind the corresponding dropdown box, leaving me to have to interpret what the question was about. I did okay.

In one case, however, instead of running through and behind the corresponding dropdown box, the text actually ran through and in front of it, almost effectively hiding the fact that there was a dropdown box there.

Since I could see that, yes, there was supposed to be a box back there, I click around and on it, but to no avail, because apparently the text itself blocked that action.

This forced me to attempt to complete the setup as is, which is how I learned you can't get away with leaving any questions unanswered.

I use my Tab key to highlight a box, and then used Shift-Tab to back up to the problem question, that is, until I could see its obscured box "go hot."

Once on it, I just used the Y key to say yes (guessing that would work), and then went back to the Submit key.

My point is, that while this workaround did make it possible for me to run the Automatic Optimization, a person with less savvy or experience would not have been able to do so.

Someone needs to identify what coding error(s) is/are the cause of the problems I describe.

Beyond the UI glitch, the app looks very capable. And my internet browsing experience does seem to have immediately become more snappy.

Thomas, Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention, we will investigate this UI glitch

Yes, [ TK ], I love automotive analogies - even my 20+ year old automatic transmission learns my driving style and accommodates, seeing me driving assertively, it shifts at different punch points than when I;m driving conservatively.

Free Kerish Doctor and free IObit Advanced System Care and other free utilities have services optimizer with simple toggles for home, office, with or without Internet, gaming, and, of course, reset to previous, and reset to defaults.

I never tried today's GOTD because no license was available, it got 3 hits at Virustotal anyway .. and I already have free services optimizers galore.

How would I improve PC Services Optimizer Pro 4.0.1047?

Have it watch and analyze if services are even a cause for system performance comprises or not, and then make specific recommendations accordingly that I can toggle on and off to see if I agree.

Thanks for exploring this and sharing.

Now, as to why anyone would release software that "... will definitely mess your computer ..." is the next question.

No matter what I do in, for example, free Kerish Doctor, regarding service management, there is no way that I can see it messing up my computer.

Thanks for the warning about PC Services Optimizer Pro 4.0.1047.

Installed fine on Win 8.1 Lenovo 1TB free. I am not a tekkie, so judge my findings accordingly. I am not overly familiar with the necessity and functions of various services that run on startup (or whenever). Program allows you to set up a profile which asks if you use Windows to monitor computer functions such as network, sharing, printer, fax, internet, etc. I am guessing that you can then modify what you want to allow this program to monitor instead of Windows. It is not a suite of utilities, but rather just to manage Windows services. I honestly don't think I will be needing it, but it seems useful/helpful for those that must closely monitor services.

If I say nothing more then it hasn't crashed my system as others (with lots of votes - VERY sus) have said.

TK, no, not the thing I want. Safe mode adds another limitations, but I want fully working OS with some of the autorun enabled. Clean boot has side effects. I have used it only once and after it have to reenable all the things that I need to start on norml boot one by one. Very unfriendly thing, wasn't using it since that.
