You don't even need a Windows 10 key if re-installing it.

I tried this morning and didn't seem to get my info via email. I tried again tonight and it didn't seem to work either. Then I tried a different, less used email, and found an email from TENORSHARE, in my SPAM for the registration code and it worked PERFECTLY. i NOTICED TOO, THAT IT WAS IN MY ORIGINAL EMAIL SPAM. ANOTHER EMAIL FROM TENORSHARE. Worked Great to get me the Windows 10 Key. THANKS.

Downloaded, installed and registered without problem. Like others, it only found my Win 10 Pro, IE, and the previously installed Office 2013 Pro. It wasn't able to find my currently installed Office 2016 Pro license.

PS. - Why do we have to click Captchas now before we can send our comment? Does GOTD earns from these Captchas?

When it says it will recover from "Internet Explorer... and other software products", I'm at a loss. I haven't used IE for years... usually use Firefox or Chrome. But what password for IE would it recover? Unless they've changed drastically, I wouldn't expect IE to have a password for itself.

Is it talking about recovering passwords for online sites?

My eason for asking is that I'm trying to help a fiend recover her Facebook password, which she used to access on her computer (probably a different browser than IE, though). She took a FB "vacation" and now forgets her sign-on.

Will this do that? (L-O-N-G S-H-O-T)

We are always asked by GOTD: How you would improve GOTD give away? Well, PassFab needs to find product keys other than Internet Explorer and the Windows operating system. How about MS Office and other expensive programs?

Crazy Denny, not going to happen with Office 2013 or newer.

The key is no longer kept on the machine except for the last five digits.

All the program recovers for me are the keys for W10 OS and Internet Explorer.
Some of you reported that you were able to get the MS Office key. I suppose this must be one of the earlier office version since the key for the latest MS Office version seems to be not any longer stored in the registry, only the last 5 digits, according a Microsoft source. Does anybody have another info?

kiwi,

"... the key for the latest MS Office version seems to be not any longer stored in the registry, only the last 5 digits, according a Microsoft source. Does anybody have another info?"

You may be correct with the latest versions of the standalone package -- I've read all sorts of complaints that it often deactivates for no apparent reason, so Microsoft may well have [drastically?] changed things, hoping to cut down on non-licensed use. Office 365 however seems completely tied to your Microsoft account -- a key's used once to activate usually 12 months of service, working like a
gift card that's useless once redeemed.

kiwi, starting with, I believe, Office 2013, the full key is no longer stored anywhere on the machine. Not anywhere. It seems to me the idea is that Microsoft wants you to create a Microsoft account and then they will store it for you on their servers.

I had to repeatedly insist I did not want to create a Microsoft account for weeks after installing Windows 10 and Office 2013 before they finally stopped nagging me about it.

So no, neither this nor any similar utility will recover a key that's not stored on the machine.

Can this only be used on whatever PC to which it is installed? In other words if I use it on my PC after installing it today is there any way I could help a friend who lost their Office documentation at a future date?

I fixed a friend's computer a month or two ago by installing a new SSHD. The hardest part of the upgrade was getting the Office key of the old hard drive. (And since I don't do this on a regular basis I've forgotten how I did it.)

Registration is a bit confusing but is accurate if you following the directions exactly as written in Readme.txt. After submitting key email no mail with key comes back. Perhaps a technical issue for sponsors to look into. I will be patient and write again if not received. Looks like an effective program. Thanks.

I can only recover the key codes for MS Office and Windows 10. What about the other 20+ software programs that each required an unique key code when it was installed? I am sure the software developer will have a good excuse for this.

Reply   |   Comment by dmf  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+34)

dmf,

"What about the other 20+ software programs that each required an unique key code when it was installed?"

Best to keep a file or files just for that, or write every one down on a slip of paper etc., e.g. I have a folder that I use to store every receipt & serial number or key, and for giveaways I put a copy of the readme.txt file with the key in the app's folder. That's because many software developers do their best to hide &/or disguise any key that's stored. They may also alter or encode a key, but unlike Microsoft with Windows, the methods they use are unknown.

For an app to be able to find all, or even most of those keys, the developer would have to test every app individually, and in many cases do a bit of reverse engineering. In the US, that reverse engineering part is AFAIK illegal -- that's what got Fengtao [DVDFab] banned -- so it's a huge amount of work that would most likely end up with you in court.

Bob, there is no chance to open this link (https://www.passfab.com/cooperation/giveawayoftheday.html).... because when I copy-paste link, I can only find one result, and it is your site on google or mozilla.
