dl no problem, but install had a problem.
the installing process stopped at 91%, & asked me "to restart pc then try again".
play safe to turn off malware hunter & pc windows smart screen.
then no choice follow the instruction.
everything is ok.

Downloaded and installed without issue. However, the installer put the program file into my C: drive without asking for an alternate location. That simple failure indicates to me the people who make novaPDF are WAY behind on customer friendly programming. Uninstalled immediately.

The program activates and operates flawlessly.

The Readme file includes the registration code, and one can input their own name, or company name and email into the registration box, be sure to use a real email, or the program will not allow registration.

Once the program is installed there is no icon on the desktop, but there is a new selection when you choose to print a document, Novapdf 9, which if one clicks it, the Nova9 PDF program opens and many different selections can be made for the new .pdf document.

After saving, the document is immediately opened in your default .pdf program for viewing.

It's a lifetime license without upgrades, so be sure to change the "check for updates" do not check.

Thanks you Give Away of the Day and Novasoft for a fine program, for free.

If you install Foxitreader as a PDFreader, you can also install FoxitPDFprinter.
Smaller then Acrobat, can add some textboxes, can extract some text.
And the printer just works fine, better than the standard of Win10

Okay two big problems. First Norton says security warning Trojan.Gen2 which stops the install dead in its tracks and that is something that rarely happens when I install software offered here.

The second problem is that this program did not allow the user to select where this software would be installed. A huge no-no for many of us for a variety of reasons such as small solid state C hard drives and/or organizational preferences.

I've used novaPDF from a previous giveaway -- still use it in some of my VMs -- and it isn't bad. Nowadays however I've switched to FlexiPDF, which I'm not sure that many people know about. It's made by SoftMaker, the same folks who produce SoftMaker Office, & like with their Office software, they make a free version available.

mike, IMO FlexiPDF is *the* best pdf software available. It's standard & pro versions offer more features/options than even Acrobat.

I've been using the paid version for years. After trying other programs, I always come back to this one.

on my older system i have used doPDF which is a freeware from the same company (Softland) , I quote from the dopdf website , "We develop our own software products in two different fields: file backup (Backup4all and FBackup) and portable document creation (novaPDF and doPDF)."

What makes this any different than taking a screenshot of the text and saving it as pdf instead of image in Fireshot (a FireFox plugin). I have used Fireshot to grab copies of all types of formats including moving videos that blocked the first screen capture by grabbing a second capture of the first capture.

There are so many PDF printer (drivers) out there for free, much smaller and with same or better features. If you have win 10, one is already included and almost every Document editor allows you to print in PDF format.
These PDF printer drivers were useful a decade ago.

On my XP machine, I've been using PDFill FREE PDF & Image Writer.
However, I would be VERY happy if GAOTD could offer a true substitute for Adobe Acrobat - something that would also offer
- adding text boxes
- extracting and deleting pages
- adding pdf pages from another pdf
- easy-to-use cropping
- saving in an optimized fashion that reduces the file size
- what did I forget for a basic user?

glnz,

Your list is exactly what users want in PDF editors. I don't think the major players are going to give it to us in a free version. We need a small company (person?) to make the breakthrough.

glnz,

Acrobat 8/9 standard & professional versions can be downloaded for free as they do not work on Win 7 or higher and Adobe shut down its older licensing servers. It worked for me on an old XP machine.

I'm reading conflicting information on their webpages! The Overview page
http://www.novapdf.com/novapdf-lite-desktop.html
says, and I quote:
"It also requires the .NET framework (you'll be prompted during installation if it's not already installed)."
However, the Features webpage says, and I quote again,
"Works on both 32 and 64-bit Windows operating systems and doesn't require 3rd party programs such as GhostScript or runtime environments like .NET Framework. "
So does it, or does it not, require .NET Framework??!?

If using Windows 10 and want something better than the native PDF printer, try Bullzip much better than novaPDF.

Windows 10 includes a native PDF printer. No more use of these kind of software anymore. Sorry.
