The Mouse and Key Recorder is an enhanced automation tool, which allows recording and replaying virtually any data input by keyboard and mouse. The Recorder not just records all keyboard and mouse activities in any window, but it also contains more than 135 additional commands.

These commands allow controlling the macro run (loops, conditions, goto, variables, etc.), manipulating files (delete, rename, etc.), starting or switching to programs, manipulating cursors, reading/writing files, etc, etc.

The Mouse and Key Recorder activities are stored in a clear and compact way. This makes it easy to edit them. The macros can be replayed interactively, by a scheduler or by command line.

I tried this, and I must say Thank you Kratonic & GOTD for the opportunity. But it really didn't work well at all for me. I am using WIndows 10 64 bit latest version build and updates as of 4-12-2018.

I tried the record feature and found right away that it would record initial actions but once getting into using certain software it failed completely and didn't record anything for play back.

If you use apps in the start screen for Windows 10 and want to incorporate actions using this software, Good luck is all I can say, it did not work for me.

But like I said, thank you for the opportunity.

As an alternative, and it's free, and it works for Windows 10 as a portable app or installed app depending on what you choose, I would recommend "TinyTask", if you get the .zip and extract it to a folder you don't have to install it. It will record your actions using the keyboard and or mouse and allow playback of those actions and other things.

You can get it here : https://www.tinytask.net/

Thanks again for the opportunity GOTD and Kryptonite.

Forgive my stupidity, but can I use this for the simple task of just putting in commonly-used text and phrases the way I do with Auto Text? Thanks for any input!

Reply   |   Comment by M. Aronson  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

M. Aronson, i don't think so, since you have to feed the document constantly with something that is what it wasn't supposed to be, it requires partial or full recognition of text based on phrases, which you couldn't specify with few lines of code, you could still use it on a task-based case, inserting such text on a by-usage basis (for whole blocks of text).

You are the boss of a company and know that some of your managers are conspiring against you by selling the company's know-how to the competition. A Keylogger would help you to gather evidence against them. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Reply   |   Comment by Purrete  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-11)

Purrete, in most countries you either can't record your workers, you have to inform them or you need to get proper license (like detective one) - it's just spying on people and I don't recall any country of Europe or Americas where you can do it like you propose. Unless you live in 3rd world (in law aspect, not economic) country, the evidence gathered illegally won't matter in the court.

Purrete, Moreover, you are talking about a KEY LOGGER. That is something completely different than the program offered today, which is a MACRO RECORDER.

i have an issue not with this share as much as with giveaway. and i am not sure where to address it to,
to download any app from this site i need to provide an email address and the site claimed that this way they will keep me informed on new giveaway.
I do receive email with link informing me about the new giveaway. then when i click on it and try to download it ask me again for my email where i give then it sends me to the same email address the link, and now i can download.
It doesn't make any sense.
I may really create FB account just to point how unprofessional it is and how often the software is better not to install.

According to Virus Total and Web of Trust, this app is clean, I don't work for then neither root for the down and about BUT it's good to feel suspicious about new programs or the ones that make you feel uncomfortable like this one, keyboard and mouse recorders have been created since the era of Win 95 and really helped technicians then to automate tasks.
This is the link if you want to check it for yourselves, I'll take a chance, download and install it and then see how it works as an app without fears of countries abroad spying on me.

I meant to say "...I don't work for them" with an M, sorry for the typo, and to add to my comment, just go ahead and download the file and then submit it yourselves to Virus Total, you'll be able to breathe better without choking on paranoid doubts, Virus total also has a web check, so paste their business web link and watch the results.

Perhaps someone may know if it is possible to add an amount to the x co-ordinate each time the macro is run to compensate for the "save box" location changes.

Thought this might be useful but found I expected too much from it. it's going out of syn (which the developer admits it can do) made it a non-keeper for me. For example, if the macro is repeatedly saving files to the same directory, after each time a file is saved the location of the explorer "save box" changes and the macro can't find it because the co-ordinates of the "save box" have changed due to the addition of file details in the explorer panel.

Mothman, A keylogger can be loaded into the download of a screensaver or a custom cursor just as easily as into a macro recorder. Heck, I just updated Flash and Adobe stuck "McAfee" malware onto my computer, which could just as well be (and for all I know is) a keylogger. The comments along these lines are mostly just stupid. If the internet scares you, stay off of it.

Obviously...reading isn't one of your strong points: a) didn't understand what I said
b) too stupid to uncheck the McAfee box during your update
c) a macro recorder isn't quite the same as a key logger

Folks, this is a very full-featured tool. Just take a look at the extensive documentation (online manual):

http://kratronic.com/tools/recorder/manual/index.html

It uses .NET (comes with an installer for that in case you don't already have it). The installer is tiny and fast and the program takes up little room.

It's pre-registered. It has no glitz. It's all business but the level of control you have is extraordinary.

I've been coming to GotD daily for years. This may be the most impressively featured and documented application I've ever seen here. Thank you to the developers.

Just my two cents.

Wow, the developer wrote:
"The Mouse and Key Recorder activities are stored in a clear and compact way. "
And after that, this file can be sent or stolen by anyone who has access to your computer, it is not even encrypted.
I do not know how you feel about such software, but I will not even download it into my computer.

Reply   |   Comment by Bruce  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-14)

Bruce, I have for years used AutoHotKey (recommended by Compute Hope) with great success and perhaps the same applies, but nobody has access to my computer so I do not worry. If they did I would worry about a lot more.
I would have liked to try this which may offer something additional that AHK does not, only as I said I have XP. But something that does sort of macros, good ones not the rubbish that Windows supply, makes life far easier. I use them a great deal in DOS (where I do most of my work) in Word Perfect 5.1, a 25-year-old word processor that no windows programme has yet surpassed though they may offer newer additions. It is possible to use this DOS programme under windows even, try
http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/sitemap.html.
The complaints against this present offer are puny compared with those I usually read on GAOTD offers (though not all).

Reply   |   Comment by Laxative  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Bruce, one of the best Polish hackers, security expert in Google said something like: "you don't need to worry about exploits which needs physical access - after all with physical access one can destroy PC with hammer". It's not a problem, as it's up to you and your OS to: 1) grant access to people you trust; 2) create guest account for others; 3) encrypt home directory (built-in function of Windows and Linux).

What would you expect? Protect it by password or private key? If everybody has access to your PC, it means that somebody could install keylogger and get your password/key. With your misconfiguration of OS it's just impossible for any tool to keep anything secure.

PS: "If they did I would worry about a lot more." - very good point!

Reply   |   Comment by Krzysiu  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

@Laxative: Downthread read, "this program is downloadable on computerbild.de (big german site) since 2007, for the first version."

So an XP version is presumably there.

Dunno about licencing obstacles, if any. Or your ability to comprehend German or get help from a page translator.

Bruce, What are you talking about? The program offered here is a MACRO RECORDER and has nothing to do with spyware or key loggers. I suggest to look up some basic computer terms (they can get confusing if you're not knowing what you're talking about).

What you're saying and suggesting is like saying Microsoft Word (or any other word processor, or heck, even notepad) is a huge security risk because they store texts.... duh!

It keeps throwing an error, when trying to run a recorded macro: "invalid hook-handle"

I have .NET Framework 2-4 installed on my Win 10 test machine, and the program is running with admin rights, so it shouldn't be a problem related to these.

Besides that, it keeps saying, that it can't find the programs used in the recorded macros.

The idea and ambitions are good though - if it would work as intended !

Reply   |   Comment by Brian  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Brian, try running the program as Administrator explicitely in the properties for the recorder, the hook library needs it. Otherwise try running the program from somewhere else, you can just copy the whole folder to C:\ for example and try from there to see if it's related to permissions. Other than that, maybe your antivirus blocks scripts execution or the hook library as part of the program.

Dear kui_, thank you for your reply.

Explicitly making the program run as an Administrator removed the "invalid hook-handle" error.

Still it is not able to run the recorded macros.

It returns the same following error:

>>And why should I wish to install a key logger on my system? And why should I wish to install a key logger on my system?

Interesting issue, which poses the question "how does one distinguish between a legitimate program and a (malicious) "key logger"?

I would assume one way is that perhaps an already installed antivirus program would potentially flag a malicious keylogging program, during install? But perhaps I am wrong about this.

It seems potentially unfair to assume that a program offered her on GOTD could be malicious- I would assume that GOTD does some degree of pre-installation and virus/malware scanning before offering a program ot the general public, but again, feel free anyone to correct me if I am wrong about this assumption.

This is the type of program that I would usually find very interesting/useful, but I have to admit the initial comment about the potential of it being a "keylogger" gives me pause before installing. But maybe this first post is a totally unfounded and potentially paranoid ...

If anyone who has more computer savvy than I and more experience with GOTD and potential pre-testing program standards could jump in and offer some advice, I would be greatly appreciative (as someone who really would like to install and try out this program).

-Cfguy

Reply   |   Comment by Cfguy  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

Cfguy, no security issue with this program: you run it when you want and close it when you want: it's not stealthed and keeps your data on your computer: unlike many other programs offered here, it does not try to connect to Internet without notifying you (a lot connect even it the option to check updates is unchecked).

I've sent the executables Virustotal and not a single antivirus (over 66) has spotted them as harmful or even suspicious.

And this program is downloadable on computerbild.de (big german site) since 2007, for the first version.

So there is absolutely no worries about it. :)
One can also note that the program is portable and the GOTD version has a build-in registration so one can keep it forever and use it on a different machine.

And why should I wish to install a key logger on my system?
Usually hackers go through loops and fire to get someone to install (without his knowledge) a key logger.
Here people install it from their own free will.
I wonder if Kratronic, also collects the information, its little spy records

glnz, the program is safe and it doesn't have functionality to use the internet on it's own, i used WireShark the whole time to see if there is anything related to it. Also, it doesn't even have a update functionality. You can create scripts to write emails like they mention in the feature description, you could probably create malicious scripts too but guess what, that's nothing anyone has control over and i've seen so many legitimate programs in the past being abused for malicious intent, torpeding the credibility and reputation of the original creators. It's their burden, not those that have the malicious intent in the first place, as said as it is.

First things first, this program requires .NET Framework in order to work.

Other than that, it has a small installation footprint.

I won't list all the features this tool offers, instead check this webpage http://www.kratronic.com/tools/recorder/functions/index.html

The included scheduler allows to run a script as a task, so you can execute it when you need it. Then there is a code editor, a command list with descriptions what they do, you can start applications or switch windows and the rest is linked above.

Anyway, in my short test, i used NFOPad to let it execute, write some text into it (Hello World three times with one empty line in between) and let it save under Hello World.txt on the Desktop with a 400ms delay.

It did as i told. There is not much else i have to explain, it allows pretty much for most stuff other similar tools can do, except that it can't create executables but i'll keep it anyway.

AutoHotkey, AutoIt, FastKeys and Pulover’s Macro Creator are probably most-used and well-known free alternatives.

Great ideal, great fun to be able to automate keystrokes and mouse clicks. My only suggestion is to make it compatible with android devices and smaller screen resolutions, and maybe even Linux Operating Systems if possible. It's great to see programs thinking outside the box, and this one does just that by offering an usual feature. I wish Give Away of the Day would post more unique programs such as this one on their site regularly.

When I closed the program a warning appeared that a specific registry entry could not be made, suggesting use regedit to edit permissions? It Also advised to check .net is up to date?
