Two things, One, in the instructions say that this can only be installed on one computer using the same internet connection. A friend that was visiting was going to try it on his laptop but we got an error about too many installations. I noticed someone else had a similar problem with his wife's computer.
Two, add the option for an desktop icon so we don't have to guess at which to use.

Downloaded and installed very easily. Reg came in email almost instantly. As stated, after install, selecting the Lightkey dashboard, and click on licence / registration - is auto populated with the key i copied from the email, and done.

I like the very nice clear and simple menu system, very well laid out and extensive. I'm not clear yet what is the need for the chrome extension?

Pretty confused by some comments but if I understand correctly to use it, this utility requires an open network connection.
Or all the chat about browser comments are just (and ONLY) for registration related problems?

Peter, The Same Exact Thing happened to me. But I saw a comment that said be sure to paste the www in the same browser that you downloaded the program with. I downloaded in my AVG Secure Browser, and then copy and pasted the URL into that browser and it worked so easy. PLEASE NOTE: When I added the Extension to my Chrome Browser, then copied the URL into that browser, it didn't work and showed the same Initial Screen (as you said) because it was a different browser. Use Same Browser for Downloading and for Getting Key. It is a Cookie Thing, I think. This Looks Promising!!

Thank you for offering this interesting and (hopefully, with time) useful tool.

The GOTD-provided license key is for a "Lifetime" activation. Typically no updates are allowed; however, on the app's License tab of the Lightkey Control Center/Dashboard where the e-mailed key is entered it displays "Lifetime updates included" before and after registration/activation.

Can you (Lightkey) confirm whether such updates ARE included, or should we (wisely, I think) uncheck the box "Notify me when a new version of Lightkey is available" (Lightkey Control Center/Dashboard > Preferences > Notifications) to prevent accidental de-licensing?

Again, thanks!

Reply   |   Comment by HMarx  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+22)

HMarx, i am a user. Lightkey Control Center/Dashboard > Preferences >License. There are 3 windows for choose. Choose the "lifetime" and click and to put into key. Do not put it into the last "website license" or any other. Right choose, pls. And everything will be OK.

Reply   |   Comment by Esther IT co  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Lightkey Dev,

It seems to be working well, as intended -- thanks yet again (and for your clarification reply).

However, I notice that even though "Exit" is chosen from the right-click menu of the Control Center's taskbar icon, only the Control Center app process/task itself stops. The "Lightkey Background Service" and "LightkeyNeuralService" continue to run (no doubt by intended design).

If possible, I think it would be nice to add a Preference option (or perhaps a "confirmation" on exiting) to totally exit all aspects of Lightkey upon "exiting" the Control Center; and/or also to have a choice to launch those background services upon Windows boot or to run only while the Control Center is also running.

The official help file notes that you are able to transfer the current license to a different computer but in order to achieve that one must deactivate the current license BUT there is no option for that as described in the help file, it simply says activated and lifetime.

Is the info in the help file wrong or does the giveaway version simply not support that feature?

I hope for an answer to this, many thanks.

Installation location- indeed, this is not customizable by default, in order to allow the smoothest experience on as many configurations as possible and avoid potential permissions issues. Bob McKelvy, well, that's exactly what I try. But the link in the readme.txt just redirects instantly to this page, the download page. This happens on three different computers, with 3-5 browsers each as well as with three different mobile devices.

Maybe there's a restriction for Germany. Might try it again with a proxy...

Reply   |   Comment by Eran B  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Eran B, the website is whitelisted, so all scripts, ads and cookies are allowed. But I got in running eventually. Funnily, by using a *different* browser and an online proxy, which redirected my request via the USA.

I still might uninstall this program again as I'm typing faster than the software could suggest the right words. It's doing latter pretty awesomely, tho. But hitting a key (like Tab) in order to fill in the whole word takes longer than typing it and it also stops the "flow" while typing.

Reply   |   Comment by Andreas Bischoff  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Andreas Bischoff,
Thanks for sharing this feedback!
Please note that you can configure the prediction interactivity to best fit your typing speed, in which case you will only get more impactful / multi-word predictions (no matter how fast you type, getting 5 or even 10 (up to 12) words ahead using a single click is faster...). Depending on your typing patterns and how often you use repetitive sequences, it may take anytime between a few hours to a few days/weeks for Lightkey to learn it and suggest more meaningful predictions.

No choice of which HD to install to, so be prepared to lose 300+Mb of your smaller SSD drive, as they won't let you have a free choice of what drive you'd like to install it to.

Sadly it looks like it doesn't support LibreOffice, the most popular free - non Microsoft - Office suite.

Dear Dev, please add those changes to your software.

It's definitely a deal breaker. And, just for an add-on like this (automation of typing), 300+ MB of drive space, meh!!! Browser based Gmail or Outlook pretty much does automated typing nowadays. And, I use free WPS office, can't afford MS office (fairly heavy for my old lowly specced laptop, too). This program neither supports WPS nor is compatible with LibreOffice. I would say no to it.

Reply   |   Comment by mukhi  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Mukhi, Neil - thanks for sharing your feedback.
A few comments to clarify-

Installation location- indeed, this is not customizable by default, in order to allow the smoothest experience on as many configurations as possible and avoid potential permissions issues. That said, it's important to note that deploying deep technology that's comprised of several core Windows services as well as neural networks (that actually run locally on your machine!), has its system prerequisites and limitations (one of which being the installation location).

Resource consumption- considering the compute power necessary to deliver relevant predictions and spelling corrections in a variety of applications under 10ms, Lightkey's use of memory and/or CPU is extremely efficient and conservative.

Privacy - Lightkey is a local solution and thus your content never gets sent to any cloud (unlike many browser/cloud based tools that have complete visibility into anything you type). In addition, being local means it doesn't rely on internet connectivity (again, unlike browser-based tools that take perform their compute on the cloud).
