Having lots of difficulty getting this to run on my Win10 with my iOS 16.1 phone. The 2.0.0.7 hangs up when launched most of the time. Sometimes it settles down, but then when trying to download my SMS messages, after "trusting" my computer, iTransfer eventually crashed without warning. Pretty frustrating.

However everything else seems ok.
This is free for a year which saves $12 for ICloud; and the amount of purchase would still beat paying ICloud fees in the longrun.

Every owner of an iPhone or iPad has 5 GB free storage in iCloud. There all your Apple data are stored.
If you need more space, as I do, you have to pay. In my case $1 per month, for 50 GB. Of which I use about half.For 2 TB, iCloud costs about the same as DropBox charges.
It I need to access my Apple data on my PC, I just log into icloud.com, using my Apple ID and password. For extra security I use two‑factor authentication. Then I can copy whatever I please to my PC, or upload anything I like from my PC to my Apple iPhone and iPad, via iCloud. Without any software, except a browser.
On my Zorin Linux computers I have installed some free software, just to make life simpler.

krypteller, good information, thank you. There are some, like me, who don't want to be tied to icloud/itunes. This could present a good option. I notice it doesn't mention backing up contacts specifically so it will be interesting to see if that works or not.

Jamie, There are apps in the App Store which export Contacts to a format you choose, such as Excel.
