To eliminate any confusion, after having spoken with Daniel of Iris,he clued me in to the fact that if....your Iris is activated as PRO,it will have a green ring around the icon itself. Many thanks to Daniel, for the Program Giveaway, and for enduring, and answering,my questions,as well as everyone else that chimed in to help eliminate the confusion of something that only Daniel, himself, could answer. Thanks, again,to all who assisted in this matter.

Update to my previous comment: I decided to try this Pro version, and I'm glad I did. Easy-as-pie download, installation AND registration. Big thanks to GAOTD and Iris Tech!

I use Iris Mini, especially at night, when I use my laptop. I've found it to be very useful for me. I'm still trying to decide if I'll be trying this Pro version; it might be more than I need. I must compliment the developer on his willingness to have a good free version, and all the great information on his website!

Ran ok on Windows 10 x64 Pro. Had mini-Iris from SOS giveaway. Well this Pro didn't offer where I could assign folder location. Guess it dumped in User on C drive with no chance to use D drive. When it ran it turned off f.lux. Rebooted. Too reddish.
Prefer f.lux so used Revo uninstaller which took out a lot of what would have been fragments from app's install. You see that via Revo. Thanks GOTD for offer.

Already had Iris Mini Pro and liked it, so I figured this would be a nice upgrade. Not yet. I saw it had a magnifier feature so I tried it. Text is now very hard to read, and there is no way to exit the zoom. With zoom enabled, none of the buttons on the Iris window are clickable except the Iris logo, and that does nothing when clicked. Sorry I tried zoom. Now I need to reboot my computer and hope that fixes it.
I'm using Win 10 with Nvidia Ti 750 graphics. And yes, I exited Iris Mini Pro before installing the version offered here today.

Some of this capability is coming in the September 2017 (or thereabouts) update of Windows 10. It probably won't be as comprehensive as in Iris (or freebie Flu.x) but may be good enough.

I have been using this program for awhile now and am pleased with it. Though sometimes it can get a bit too dim and, depending on what I am doing, I have had to to pause it. Simple enough to do! Speaking of which, thank you for adding "Mode" to the icon right click menu.

It is silly for anyone to think one can block blue light without forsaking some brightness. However, think how precious your eye site is and determine if you are willing to accept that.

One question, I forget, where do I put in the registration key? I installed this over version 0.9.0.3 and it looks to have taken the registration from that but cannot find where to look to be sure it is registered. I'd appreciate any help with that!

Thank you, Daniel and GOTD team!

As a followup to my previous comments, it turns out that Iris and Vision (alternate color schemes for people with color-deficiency/"blindness"), when running at the same time, will both add their own effects for a cumulative result. They "play well" together, if you want/need both.

Took just a little while to get used to the new "healthy" colors, but overall it is working well in my room with lamps of 2700K color temperature lighting.

Recently, we were offered another eye-health title called "Vision" for those people with color-deficiency ("blindness") issues. I am surprised to see that today's Iris Pro also includes settings for the various kinds of color-deficiencies.

This thing has tons of settings for all sorts of situations -- great for outdoor telescope star-gazers (astronomy viewing), "hackers" (perhaps to feel like you're in a movie?!), inversions, gray-scales, blink detection via camera, take-a-rest-break timers, exceptions for when you are playing games (I think it means no awkwardly-timed interruptions to take an eye-rest break) or working with images in color-calibrated titles like photoshop (pauses color effects), etc.

Impressive! Now after restarting the machine I'll just have to see how well it "plays" with that other recent title (Vision) when it launches again...

Again, after reboot, after going through EACH individual option in Iris, still nowhere to enter key for Iris PRO...is there some secret Masonic handshake that I have not been instructed about,or something I have missed,or failed to pay attention to ??...When I click on "about",it is NOT showing as Iris PRO,just "Iris 0.9.0.6 "... (Usually,I can work through the jumping through the hoops, and labrynthine installs, having been a regular GOTD visitor for years, but this one has got me stumped........)??????

Fantastic Program!!! I have ALWAYS wanted this type of qvick inversion - brightness reduction etc. etc.
BUT I HAVE NOT EVEN KNOWN I did!
It's similar story than with trainers/sneakers; they did nor exist, no one knew they needed them nevertheless,
then all of a sudden EVERYBODY needed them! They filled a market gap.
Thank you GA - thank you developer - hope this is not a limited time lisence...

I have Iris Mini already installed. I love Iris mini, and my screen now seems too bright if I don't have it working. I thought, though I saw a complaint about it dimming the screen, that that was kind of its purpose. I tried putting this in, also, but I didn't take the other out in case I preferred the first one. Now my screen is flashing maddeningly from one brightness to another, and both Irises are running. Iris mini is set at 5000K sunlight, 75% - Moderate. Iris Pro seems to be (automatically) at 5000 something, and 100% something else. I can't seem to find all the options, if there are any, to change it to 75%, and would that help? My poor eyes are starting to ache trying to look with all the flashing. Is the screen flashing only because both are installed and it is confused? If I take this one out will it take dear old Iris Mini with it? Some programs do take all... I thought this would have more options, but it seems to just have different ones. I'd still like to try it, but not lose Iris Mini either. At the moment I think I prefer Mini.

Now I just exited Pro to escape, and the screen is now very bright, but Iris mini is still on, but not working the same. It's now set at 6500 and I can't get it to change even though the 5000 and 75% are still checked. If I restart will it fix things or have I ruined it putting both in together? Any suggestions?

I've already got 0.9.0.4 from a previous giveaway, and at the Iris site,Daniel mentions this about 0.9.0.6 ( a minor build)......"Fixed bug with AI automatic brightness on disable camera."...However the version I have does NOT state itself as PRO,so I might give this one a spin, even if I have to reboot,lol....Here we go,merrily, looking for cars, street signs, bodies of water,shop-fronts,mountains...did I leave anything out...Oh,and BTW,I am not a robot...

I tried it, had to reboot to get it out of zoom.........too many features..i would prefer the entire program automated, and its a bit orange at first......flux is not, but changes with time of day, however flux has some stability issues with beta, and this also already gave me problems.........whats the point of advanced features of you don't know what its for; for example some of the automated features or artificial intelligence, nice idea, but is it really helping me? the interface is too small, if your goung to ao much trouble, have some diagnostic features and have an automate button for every feature with dignostics and explanation for what its for, like a HEALTH program

WOW, I've NEVER seen any developer crank out revisions so quickly.
Wish I could work that fast (LOL).
At first I thought it was a mistake as this was offered a week ago.

When I installed it last week, I was on the fence a bit. Couldn't be sure if I liked it or hated it. Initial impression was that it was odd....

PRO:
After a few days of use I don't understand how I was ever able to use the default screen color palates and brightness setting.
It's safe to say I now love this program !!

CON:
I use this indoors on a workstation with 3 monitors.
My only concern is that text seems to have gone from black to dark blue. I've made peace with it. However sometimes at night it's a bit too light and slightly harder to read.
It seems like the newer version is geared toward laptops with the "camera" setting....

QUESTION:
Has anyone used and liked the previous version .3.7.3 and then installed this Version .9.0.6 then liked this recent one better ?

Being one of those guys who hates to fix what ain't broken, I haven't updated yet. I would hate to loose what I already have and like.

Should I update it ?

(This is Frank answering my own question from above)
I got anxious so I took the plunge and tried the latest version.

Reasonably easy to use, slightly more CPU intensive & has sliders to "tune it in" more easily.
Now, my one objection concerning: the sometimes harder to read text color seems to have been addressed with the simple slider control.
However, haven't tried this version at night yet.
I've got my fingers crossed.

I think it's a keeper.
I'm glad I didn't get too spooked the first time around and uninstall it. It grows on you very quickly.

5 Stars !

I have on several occasions pointed out that Iris Pro and Mini have a terrible memory leak problem, so that after running for a while (several hours) it starts to hog inordinate amounts of memory, the process has to be forcibly restarted to clear it.

Well, I'm pleased to say that the developer appears to have looked into this bug and fixed it in the latest version. Time will tell, but it seems stable and suitably low in memory consumption now. Thank you for listening, developer!

Hi Tranmontane,
The reboot is not required.

As the message says
"Iris will work fine, but High-level Color API will be used"

After reboot Iris will just work much faster and better.

The screen is supposed to be red and a little more dark. After all Iris will reduce blue light and brightness depending of the time of the day. Not sure why all this negative comments.

Daniel Georgiev, I will give this program a try and post back in your website if too late for here..as for Tranmontana, he states he doesnt reboot for weeks at a time on his laptop, so he hasn't installed driver or OS updates?...and 20-25 tabs open at a time is loading the OS, processor and GPU...I usually bookmark the tabs if I want to come back to those pages.

Daniel Georgiev,

For those who perhaps don't want to reboot -- uninstalling the programme DOES bring back the normal bright (almost blue, in comparison) screen..... So that's one good thing.

Well, I've just completed the registration -- and while you CAN increase the brightness, I see -- it is still quite PINK/Orange!

Meaning, I have to reboot.

I am not sure I want to pay that price. So I will uninstall -- and see if there are any really encouraging recommendations from anyone who has gone the whole route of rebooting, since if I wish, I CAN re-install for another 20 hours.

But only if I see it as being highly recommended, otherwise the hassle-factor is just too great.....

Tranmontane,

You talk about a "hassle-factor", but you never explain just what it is. It would be helpful to other users if you gave some detail as to what's bothering you.

Gosh, as soon as it installs it dims the screen and says it has made some adjustments to the video card's "limitations" -- whereas it has certainly limited the brightness of the screen without asking! It says you need to reboot to get the full effect -- AFTER you have installed the programme. Well, dammit, on my laptop PC I don't re-boot for a couple of weeks at a time -- I don't want to have to save all my open files before I can proceed, and also waste time waiting my laptop to reboot (typically about 5 mins). And while I know that a closed browser SHOULD be able to restore the original tabs (and sometimes I have over 20-25 open....) but it has happened often enough that it HASN'T that I try NOT to reboot. And even if I copy off the URLs of all the open tabs, that doesn't help me find my way BACK....

So I am immediately underwhelmed by a programme that MIGHT be good, and I am thinking of simply uninstalling it, just so I can get back my BRIGHT screen. Since the ONLY thing that is bright against this pinkish/orange screen is the CURSOR. And no, on my Lenovo T420, I can NOT completely bring back the bright screen with the screen illumination buttons and Function control.

So it looks like this thing will be gone from my laptop in the next 20 mins....

Thus a word to the developer -- please, either warn us ahead of time about the uncontrolled dimming of the screen -- or simply DON'T do it!

Now I just have to hope that simply uninstalling WILL give me back my bright screen, because if I don't get it, I will have lost quite a bit of time, a bright screen -- and a possibly-otherwise useful programme!

AND my more than 20 open TABS!

Tranmontane, a modern laptop shouldn't take 5 min. to reboot. You likely have a lot of background software running that's eating up resources.

Reply   |   Comment by shegeek72  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Tranmontane,

You did not mention the browser you are using, but per chance it is Firefox, there is an excellent AddOn called Session Manager. Even if you have options set to restore tabs when Firefox is started, there are times when Firefox will start (like after some crashes) but without any of your last tabs re-opened. No matter how many tabs or even windows you had open in Firefox, the Session Manager will allow you to select from the last ones it knows of. I know this works as I have the same issue, usually having over 40 tabs open. By the way, Session Manger has improved over the years, and now is quite stable, and there are no signs of it slowing the browsing session down.
