Hi, is it possible to install this software only as an on demand scanner that has no constantly running components?

Yes you can run as a stand-alone just turn off all options. I do the same it’s hogs up to much memory.

Cereus,
I think either of these items will address what you are asking.
In "Settings" from the dropdown in upper right:
In the "General Settings" tab there is an option "Load autmatically at Windows Startup" that you can check or uncheck.
Also, in the "Auto Scan" tab there is an option "Do not scan your computer automatically" that you can check or uncheck.
I hope that helps.

"Hi, is it possible to install this software only as an on demand scanner that has no constantly running components?"
Many security software companies offer, usually free, a stand-alone, portable version of their software just for on-demand scanning -- some are even bootable. Their main use however is to detect things like rootkits that are not detectable when that copy of Windows is running.
That said, while the old school pattern matching of antivirus software is still a part of modern security software suites, by itself that pattern matching is considered worse than nothing -- the software sends its roots so deep into Windows that if/when exploited it's a big security risk. What makes modern security software valuable is its constant monitoring of what's going on when Windows is running. It's designed to detect, and more importantly stop software from doing something naughty. Microsoft considers it so important that you can't run Win10 without it, shipping with Defender, that'll work on it's own or in conjunction with whatever additional security software you add, e.g. IOBit Malware Fighter Pro, BitDefender, McAfee etc.

Morrie ,
I am not sure. I have run it at times with Avast Free, Zemana A-L and Glary's Malware Hunter and it posed no problems. I have not tried it with Malwarebytes.
