# 3 - I followed your instructions, and I did not see a "Register" button. I checked the webpage, and downloaded the file from there, installed it again, and still did not have a "Register" button. I'm glad I didn't uninstall version 3.5, which I had previously installed....

Massively and unnecessarily complex. Take a look at Recuva for an example of how to make an app like this user friendly. Although this isn’t helped by the endless broken English, eg “Patience is appricated since it will definitely pass”, “Are you sure of abandoned files”, etc etc

Also it was showing me EVERY file on my computer, not just deleted files. Maybe I missed a setting somewhere to filter them but that is just stupid for a file recovery program!

Please respect the user's setup for default internet browser. I dislike programs that launch IE, which is NOT my set browser. Far too many programs do this, some (most) I have uninstalled.

I do expect better performance at this price ($70), since it works as good as free solutions available online (e.g. Recuva, Pandora, PCI file recovery, etc). It recovers recent deleted files.
It did not recover any files from deleted or formatted partitions.
I tried both: USB flash drives and hard drives.
I have tried paid recovery software (e.g. Diskinternals, Ontrack, etc) that do really recovered some files from deleted or formatted partitions. They might cost more (3x to 6x) but they do a better job.
Do always back up, because file recovery software is not as good as they appear.

Sorry Micke 4# I had no trouble recovering files from my USB drive.
Get this recovery program while you have a chance in my experience it has been first rate.
There are a number of unscrupulous software vendors who pretend that it needs a different recovery program for different types. If you think about it this is absolutely and obviously untrue; when a file is written to drive the type does not change this this process, many of the file types around today were not thought of when the writing method was introduced.
If we consider the FAT (the NTFS is similar but has better error recovery) system of storage, it consists of a starting point which is in the index, and in table that points to the sectors with the rest of the file stored, a copy of the second part is also made in case of errors. When a file is removed the first letter in the file name in the index is changed to a symbol, this informs the system that the space occupied by this program can be written on.
In essence this means that recovery program can recover any file type as long as it has not been over written.

I've only had to use this software once, but when I did, it worked great. One of the hard drives in my server decided to become unreadable (when you plugged it, Windows said it needed to be formatted), so I fired up iCare, set its target to the hard drive, and voila. After about an hour, it had found all my files, and built the file tree, so I could recover to another hard drive and send the original one to Samsung for replacement. It did find a ton of .zips that didn't have anything in them, but, since it found the rest of the files, that can be forgiven.

Humm, well some are gonna hate me now, last time this was on it had some that raised it to the skyes.

My test

1 USB drive that was formated.
Put two files on it.
Formated it.
Made a format recovery.
My files was not found.
Some old filed where found and verifyed.

Wiped the USB out totaly with DOD algoritym.
Put two files on the stick.
Formated it.
Made a format recovery.
Two Zip files was found, ummmm, I put PDF on it.
The Zip files turned out useless, random data.

So far my format recoverys has failed.
Also, it do not seperat pressent files and deleted files. This means, it mix none deleted files with deleted files in the recovery list.

The partition recovery, do not seem to recover a partition, but the files on it. Ehhh is that not basic file recovery? And still, I have no way to see before a file recovery if its recoverable.

Some free softwares out there tells you that a file can be recovered to ie 99% This means, that 1% of the file is lost. Some software can even tell if a file has been overwritten by another file.

So basic in my opinion some one took Recuva, destroyed it, made it none working, and put a $70 tag on it.

By the way, Recuva did not find my files either, but I did find those "Zip", but not as Zip, and those documents has been verifyed to work.
Just one thing tho, I am 1000% sure those never was on that USB stick in first place.

Hummm it seems that Fast Format on a USB stick is safer then wipeing a HardDrive? This was a bit confusing.

Any ways so far Recuva did the work better then the GOTD, even tho I whould like to have seen some better results.

And noooo I am not gonna dare try to format my harddrive just to test the harddrive recoverability.

To days software is free, but keep in mind, it has proven to recover, random junk. In my opinion this could be a waste of time, might work better on a harddrive tho.

There is not an obvious way to register - open up one of the four choices - i.e. - Lost Partition Recovery - and there is a register button - lower left. Enter the license number, and you are registered.

Just a note, the installer inside the GOTD package is the exact same as on their own website right now, so if you can't get the GOTD installer working, you can download the one from their site.
