This has a couple of good options. The ability to save the results of a search for latter re-use to avoid having to re-scan the same drive every time if you need to interupt the recovery activity for some reason. It has the ability to list just the recovered files or the entire file system and recovered files or just the existing files. I note that it refuses to even attempt to preview potentially recoverable files larger than 10Mbytes in size can't even view them as a HEX view preview. So cannot even check a potentialy recoverable video file has valid video file header...
I noted that when it was scanning and building the virtual file system it's memory usage did increase significantly and when it completed all that memory intensive work it correctly deallocated the memory there and then which is a good sign it was thoughtfully programmed. As this does not have the facility to make an image file of a failing drive and then scanning the image file not the failing drive I don't plan on keeping this so did not give them an email address to unlock the 1Gbyte free edition limitation.

Downloaded. Installed. Got registration key via email.

Of course it will take 2 weeks to test this on a crashed 4tb drive.

Jim Jones, more importantly does it see and can it address the entire 4TB space on that drive? Also I suggest you don't dive straight in with a "Deep scan" and try the quicker scan to see if that works within a more usable time-frame. Resort to the loooonger "Deep scan" only IF its really recessary. I am of course you are not really meaning the head crashed into the platters while it was spinning resulting in failure as that is traditionally what is meant by a hard drive crashing, and really just mean a sector failure or corrupted file system due to power outage or operating system/program bug or malicious software activity.

TK, Not sure yet. I have to maybe grab another drive or move some stuff around.. But the non-deep scan was pretty quick and looks very good.

I have followed the steps, and when I enter the key it says activation error.

PS I downloaded the giveaway from the other giveaway site in Dec 2018, and it too refused to accept it's license key
I am using XP Pro SP3 32bit

Get an error trying to extract the setup file and readme.txt. States "error while removing a file, access denied" I tried it 3 times. That is too bad, really

That said, thank you iBoysoft! (license info would have been appreciated even if they are not requiring it) Program downloaded and, following the directions in the readme file, activated to Pro version without issue. Another good one for the arsenal!

I cannot see any way to get the Full version without paying full price. Is it really only 1GB limit. All documentation on the site says 1GB limit on free version

Reply   |   Comment by Bobf  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-6)

Bobf, follow the instructions in the ReadMe file. You will be emailed a key. Once you launch the program, look to the upper left for the KEY icon. Enter your key and the heading in the program will change from FREE to PRO. It worked for me.

Why, sometimes, when you request the file link via email, does someone else's email already appear filled in? I hope that when I insert my email address, that someone else doesn't see mine.

Reply   |   Comment by Dawg  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

Dawg,
That's odd, are you sure it is not an email address from your cache? I clear my cache regularly and the only time that has happened to me is when I have not cleared it and then it has only ever shown my e-mail address already there from my having input it another day for a previous giveaway.

Tried to download program, but now the site indicated Your operation is very frequent, please try again later." Maybe later the download expired. Please advise to be able to download.

A Barnard, no it's an anti denial of service protection measure. Or prevent multiple entries of the same email address.... imagine if I knew your email address and had some sort of vendeter against you I could make their server SPAM you with emails by repeatedly entering your address in their page.. End result you'd be annoyed with the SPAM and not knowing I was the real source you'ld likely report them as the source of the SPAM and get their mail provider server blacklisted on industry wide IP block lists used by most inbound SMTP relays preventing other customers from receiving their registrtion emails.

The issues others have voiced seem to be due to an "unusual minor set of registration hoops" Most GOTD offers are straight steps, this offer has a very minor twist. Thank you iBoysoft

The big question is: Will this do bare metal recovery off a boot disk? Useless trying to recover important stuff if the O/S has to work in the first place.

Reply   |   Comment by steveh  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

steveh,

Nothing on the iBoysoft site mentions a bootable USB drive, that I can see anyway. OTOH there's nothing difficult about creating a win10 Windows To Go drive, which is a full version of Windows, so you can install iBoysoft Data Recovery Pro, along with any other software you choose. You can use the free rufus or the wizard in win10's Control Panel to create the Win2Go drive; IMHO win10 works fine unactivated on a Win2Go drive; it does work better if you use a SSD [start at ~$20] in an external USB housing [start at ~$5].

That said, if you only store Windows & software on the system drive, a disk/partition image backup is a Much better solution -- store your stuff [everything else] on a separate partition or partitions. That way you'd have no problem running iBoysoft Data Recovery Pro, or any recovery app from the copy of Windows you normally use. That can also simplify backing up, or better yet syncing your data to another drive, e.g. external &/or NAS &/or the cloud, so you never need to recover files in the 1st place.

Download link doesnt show up in Mozilla Firefox.
Use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

bob, They are referring to the link for iboysoft..I too am using the newest Firefox and not all the page loads. Have to use Chrome to get the "Please enter valid email address as below:" portion on iboysoft site as it is not there in Firefox. Mozilla is aware of the issue apparently.

DJ, Just to add, they are hopefully going to send out an email to followers to disable "Adblock feature" on some sites and see if that resolves the issue and for those with privacy Badger installed to disable it and reload the page.

bob, NOPE! Maybe problem with 64 bit version 63.0.3. Anyway, says its over now

Not ignoring the data limitation this program works as advertised. It did a through and fairly quick job of recovering files from my camera's 4G secure disk.

Always a catch - Provided program can ONLY recover 1G of data. Not a bad limit but still a limit which makes a "Free" program not so free.

GOTD it would have been nice if this limit had been mentioned up front..

jpmalonesr, have you obtained the license key to transform the free edition with the 1G of data recovery limit into the Pro edition without that limit? Or just installed the setup.exe and not bother to read the readme.txt and jump through the hoops to get the key?

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+45)

jpmalonesr, If only you had read the read me text file, all is explained to get FULL version with NO restrictions !!!

TK, I redid what you suggested and nowhere does it say you get the PRO version for free, sorry. I did register my copy so if it is the pro version with no data recovery limits I apologize and say thank you.

jpmalonesr, Did you notice the little round label on the picture that says "69.95 Free Today"? Also
"Price: The program is available for $69.95,
but it will be free for our visitors
as a time-limited offer." on the right in the light blue section?

kiaville, Thanks, I got confused when I first installed the program by the popup message about a 1G limit.
