I received a instal file direct through my E-mail from Solveig Multimedia the same file that is offered on http://www.solveigmm.com the exact same executable file that was packaged in the GAOTD file.

However this program from Solveig was not done via the normal GAOTD method by downloading the installer & unzipping the Setup program then having to wait while the GAOTD setup program contacts GAOTD before it will instal.

This one I was sent, was called Resume.exe A bit strange I thought it was 1 11MB exe file in a folder with a half dozen other various sized executable files all under 1 MB with some dll files.

Unlike the GAOTD program, This one resumed with the installation where the GAOTD file had failed. It installed flawlessly overwriting & replacing the corrupted exe, dll files from the previous failed installation attempts.

This time it proceeded to instal & to register with the GAOTD serial with ease

I have been recording a video for the past couple of hours for adding to the net later this week. Once I finish editing it. I will be editing it with the Hypercam editing tools this should prove to interesting..

This new hypercam version 3.2 is fantastic.

I love that it has dual monitor support. None of my previous screen capture programs could record off of both of my monitors it would only record of the primary one. This one will record of the secondary one just as easily as the primary.

I can even record files split across 2 or even 3 monitors none of my screen recorder programs before this one could. this one can & it does it with ease.

I can not believe all the great Encoding choices I have & so many choices of locations where I can record to, including directly to cd or dvd..

Two thumbs up

This is a positive keeper. There is a very good chance when my finances permit that this one will be bought and paid for. I love it.. Good bye camtasia good bye screen recorder and can you say hello delete bin to that finicky limited recording & encoding choice program kahlown.

I am pleased to say hello to my new permanent replacement screen capture program Hypercam 3.2 it will forever be the default program I use from this day forward.

Excellent. Would suggest:
1) Be able to record audio only or have option to save video and audio separately
2) Output format should include mp4/m4v.. to run on ipad, iphone and Android devices,

I received a number of error messages & a failure to install of the Hypercam 3 product from Yesterdays GAOTD. It failed to instal or register and it then rolled back after it had tried to instal some specific DLL files, ones that were not able to be installed. Thus it corrupted the instal causing it to fail.

I was wondering how do I go about fixing the errors so that I can actually instal & register the product.. I tried multiple times to install the product I even went to far as to uninstall the previous GAOTD of this Hypercam product & then I tried to reinstalled it.

I even tried to instal it by giving special permissions to the setup files to pass through my firewall with my antivirus temporarily disabled (something I am loath to do) but even with that done the installation still failed

I now do not even have the previous version of Hypercam from Giveaway of the day because this version of hyper-cam seems to be broken which it is probably fine it just does not seem to like my computer. For some reason it is fighting my Pc every-step of the way.

Now because of this failed attempt to instal a new version =( I am temporarily with out a decent screen recording software for when I make youtube videos of the games I play.. Considering bandicam broke after 3 weeks of working it threw back a unregistered notice.

So I do not even have bandicam to play around with anymore. I seem to be having bad luck with screen recording software. Though kahlown seems to be working fine. I just find kahlown to not be that great of a product for making screen capture videos it is more trouble than it is worth.

Anyways, These are the specific errors I received while trying to install this new version of hypercam.
1 gdiplus.dll failure
2 Libversions.dll failure
3 mclick.dll failure
4 msvcp71.dll failure
5 SMM_HCEditor.exe Failure
6. Smm_HyperCam.exe failure
7 Smm_OverLayHook.dll failure

MY PC System is Windows XP Pro Vr 2002 Service pack 3. using Comodo Firewall & Antivirus.

I took a number of screen shots if you all wish me to post them I can do so.

I also have a managed to make a rather poor screen video capture of the failed instal using the excellent screen camera program.

I can also post that with a link for you to look at if you wish

The reason I am sad & disappointed is because I was really looking forward to trying out this new version of the Hypercam software. Which has been one of my favorite programs for the past year. Ever since it was last given away on GAOTD.

Can't install program running windows 7 64 tried several times it even tried to get me to purchase software on trial pay cant evaluate what you cant run give this the thumbs down Obviously iam not the only 1 with this problem seems others running windows 7 are having problems too. I went to site & this is suppose to be new there was a previous version2 seems that the developer should have updated to run on windows as don't see why it would make sense to update a software thats not compatible with what most are running on now. Thumbs Down! to this

I forgot to mention, for those having the program crash at launch:

On my Vista computer this was happening, oddly it ran fine if launched directly from its program folder.

This did not occur on my Windows 7 computer, only on the Vista.

Every time, when launched from the shortcut it would crash, I made a new shortcut and tested it, this crashed also.

Every time it was launched from the program folder it ran reliably.

I do not know what would cause such an issue, hopefully this will help.

Followed the instructions of #88. The license would not copy and paste. Instead, I copied into a Notepad document and saved it using the "Read Lic. from File" option. That seems to have worked as "Evaluation" disappeared from the program's top bar.

Tried to test but must be doing something wrong. When I try to select Region, my whole screen goes black. Same for trying to select a window. Sounds records very well.

The homepage has a solution to this problem, but it's for ZoneAlarm.
Link: http://www.solveigmm.com/en/faq/hypercam-records-black-screen/
I use something called PrevX for my antivirus. Can anyone help me solve this?

Not Very Good AT aLL.Could not get audio to record on vista 32bit system. no matter what way i tried to do it,run as admin than record, check audio box than record,un-check audio record box in settings and try again...same result. With re-start after installed than record screen with audio, ect.ect. ect. Other screen and sound recorders seem to do a better job than today's Giveaway.Had to uninstall after 3 hours of trying to make program work properly. Thanks Anyways

Great program, recorded a game play that others (including playclaw and bandicam) had failed.

Could clean up the gui a little, the interface looks busy, and it can be hard to find what you are looking for within the settings and options because of this.

I tried the lower quality settings to test its output.
The low quality output resulted in better video than anothers program I had set to medium quality.
I am still testing its higher quality settings, all is great so far.

All in all, a Keeper.
Thanks to GOTD and the Dev's for this program, it looks so far that it will be very useful and usable.

Runs perfectly on my:

Win7 64-bit Home premium

Installed on Windows 7 64-bit. Activated perfectly, Don (comment #4), I don't know if anyone already mentioned this to you but you might've forgotten to get the license key from the GAOTD registraton application. Loving this program so far, much better than BSR Screen Recorder (which is another free option for those of you who don't like this)

All went well for my Win7 64 installation but my friend on Vista could not get it. Appalling how much trouble it seems for so many. I've never seen this before. It's just luck if it works for you.

Also, if you try to re-install, (say you want to write down the steps for a friend), one gets a warning that the first copy will be uninstalled. There is no way to cancel the re-install. Clicking 'cancel' or the red x is the same as clicking 'OK'. Now you are forced to go thru the uninstall/restart/ then reinstall. A simple cancel request should stop the action.

This is an absolute nightmare. I accidently clicked on record, and no mattere how many times I uninstall/reinstall (both through program and through control panel-install/uninstall), it still comes back with the short clip I did, so the program is not uninstalling completely. I finally found a drop down option to register (no space to enter key or anything) and every time I select it, the program says there is a problem and it has to close. This is one extremely unstable and buggy program. Wasted 3/4 of an hour on this. Am giving up and uninstalling - for good.

Very counterintuitive registration process; was unable to record sound with video first few times, decided will go back to it later. If the audio capture is on par with the video capture, this could be a good piece of software. Need to add some user-friendly help, and need to correct their spelling so it doesn't look like some former Soviet satellite country refugee was their tech writer.

This is an excellent program. I was using the free version 2 but this one is a lot better. the free version would only record sound from the microphone. This one lets you record right from the stereo mixer and the sound format options work a lot better. The video codec options also work better and it records a lot smoother. All you have to to register it is click enter license now after clicking on Register. Then paste in the provided license key and you're good to go. Thank you very much GAOTD.

Installed late last night, had to regiser it by manually pasting the code (by the way, you have to click on the box on the bottom to enter it, you can't use the code in the first form that pops up). Worked without a single hiccup on a Win7 Pro SP1 64 bit machine. I did crank it up to 30fps and it started to run a little sluggish while capturing a video that was playing back, but it was fullscreen 1920 and had a lot going on. I figure that if it can do that then 99% of 'real' screen capture will be more than fine.

Between yesterday and today there have been two fantastic GOTD offerings!

Wasn't sure whether to load this or not after reading the comments, but did anyways because I needed a program like this. Installed and registered fine on my Win7 / 64. I didn't have any of the install problems posted by others, but it was good information posted on clicking on the middle registration button. That was helpful. (even after reading the ReadMe text file.)

I checked out the Options tab and felt like this program had a good selection. I also like the Recent Records section. Nice! So far, this program looks pretty good to me! Sorry I couldn't test out the whole program yet to give more feedback. Wish I had more time. Thanks GOTD and Solveig!

How to activate this software:
1. Find "Register" button at bottom-left. Depending on your screen resolution, you may need to drag the HyperCam windows upward.
2. Click this button. You'll see few text fields where you can't write anything. Actually, these are not text fields.
3. Click "Enter License Now" button at bottom-middle. Paste license key here & click OK.
That's Done.
Mind it, there's no need to enter your name!

I can't enter any details in the registration, it just won't accept key strokes or a C&P of the ginormous registration key. Also, the GUI sits too high on my screen so I cannot see the headings - click blindly on something and get the recording parameter thingy and there's no way to get out of it except via Task Mgr.

Downloaded and installed fine - Windowx XP 64 bit (professional). Will not activate. That includes selecting "Enter license now..." from the middle choice on the licensing window, and then then pasting the serial number in the resulting window. Tried relogging on as adminstrator - no joy. Tried Safe Mode - clicked for full screen as the register button was invisible, and the program locked up.

Downloaded, installed, registered and made a recording (2 of them) on Win XP Pro Sp3 Quad Core and no problems. This is a very nice recording software program. I just made two recordings of the NASA interview briefing with our returning Atlantis crew. Picture fantastic and the sound great. All of this was done without going to the options, help etc. Thank you so much for this offering. It was so simple as I was really moving to catch the interview of the astronauts. Hope others can fix their problems so that they may enjoy this offering. Have a good day everyone.

#36: "Up to now my only problems are selecting capture modes; it is very sluggish on my XP s3 fast single core machine, nor do I seem to be able to move a region around."

Today's GOTD does use Direct X, so performance to some extent depends on how well your hardware handles DX or if it's emulated in software. If you're using a on-board graphics chip, if/when possible you might try allocating more RAM to graphics. You might also try a good capture codec -- Huffyuv for instance has been around for years, & needs very, very little horsepower, so that might free up resources for other things. Note however that huffyuv will in most cases need to be re-encoded to something else -- it's very good & high quality but it's designed for capture & not viewing.

* * *

#48: "... getting the following error when I try both the GAOTD and the retail demo install: Cannot register “C:\Program Files\Solveig Multimedia\SMM_Trimmer.ax”"

Locate the file & try registering it manually -- I use an app called RegDrop.exe, but if you Google/Bing you'll find loads & loads of info & instructions.

* * *

#54: "... For starters, it is very buggy and I had to update and install some old video CODECS drivers to make it run. Freezes constantly and the output is jittery. Files saved are huge and unfriendly to editing, loses the original quality every time I save in other format than AVI... Got memory overflow errors few times when stopped and restarted the same video capture file."

If it helps re: codecs, there are several good alternatives if you check the Tools page at videohelp.com, or use wmv -- you'll need codecs installed to capture or play video regardless the recording or capture app. If you're having problems playing the captured/recorded file, if the files are too large, &/or if the picture's poor, that would all suggest you might look for a codec that might work better for you. If the video you're recording is freezing during capture [recording], that usually means your hardware isn't up to the task you've set it, which often also goes back to codec choice. A video codec compresses the video before it's written to file -- the methods of compression vary between something like mjpeg, which makes a jpg out of each frame, & at the other extreme, something like AVC which does a lot of picture analysis, & drops a lot of data to make the file smaller. My 486 could capture/encode mjpeg, but the AMD quad I'm running now finds AVC capture challenging.

* * *

#59: "Gives me the following message: “Unexpected end of archive. The archive is corrupt or has an unknown format.” "

AV software blocking or other download problems? Unfortunately the GOTD key did not work with the trial from the app's site when I tried it just now.

HyperCam 3 is a nice screen capture app from a decent company, Solveig Multimedia, but IMHO the reason to install/use it is if you need or want the included HyperCam Media Editor, an app to split/join avi & wmv files. For just plain screen capture video, e.g. recording video playing in your web browser, Screen2Avi does the same job for free, & a portable version is available [at videohelp.com: http://goo.gl/eFODH or the app's home page: http://goo.gl/6xzKe ]. Compared to Screen2AVI, HyperCam 3 does have a much nicer way of defining custom areas to capture, but you pay for it, & otherwise recording the same web video using the same codec was identical. If OTOH you're producing tutorials & such, Ashampoo's Snap 4 has a lot more features you'll probably appreciate, & in e-mails they've been advertising a sale price around $5. HyerCam 3 does not include a virtual audio driver, so if you can't record playing audio now, you won't be able to with today's GOTD installed... sorry.

Solvieg is known for their editing apps, e.g. trimmers & splitters, & they generally do work well to cut &/or join video clips of the same type without re-encoding -- that way you avoid generational loss, meaning quality in = quality out. And per the help file: "HyperCam Media Editor is a reduced version of SolveigMM Video splitter". If you have recorded video, the HyperCam Media Editor will let you cut out any commercials, giving you a single video file without the time & quality loss of re-encoding, but only if your recording is in a compatible format, i.e. avi or wmv. This is of more use for .wmv, since there are already quite a few apps [both free & paid] that do the same thing for .avi video files, though the HyperCam Media Editor [& other Solveig apps] does make it easier than many of those alternatives.

Running/using HyperCam 3 is very straightforward -- click Options, set your video codec, fps [Frames per Second], Output folder, & then on the 2nd tab, Audio source & format... the Interface tab lets you set hot keys while the Extras tab lets you do things like Capture mouse curser. Back at the Record window you select 1 of 3 choices, Region, Fullscreen, or Window. For the most part that's about it -- I like that they kept it so simple, but they could have included a button for the help file. What I think is a minor issue for most people, I could not set a fps of 29.976 -- there's very little real difference between 29.976, 30, & the 29.98 fps it let me set, but some things, some apps need 29.976 or they'll re-encode. One nice touch is that while recording HyperCam 3 minimizes to the taskbar with a mini-toolbar where you can easily Pause or Stop recording, though it doesn't show up that well, was a little too transparent for my tastes in win7 64 with aero on. Codecs available to use depend on what you have installed, which generally is as it should be -- screen capture apps that won't use the codecs you have are much more a problem... check sites like videohelp.com for a selection of codecs, or use Windows wmv, updated/added as part of Windows Media Player.

Installing HyperCam 3 is a bit higher impact, with a recorded 1100+ new registry entries, most for the several *.ax files stored in \Common Files\ Solveig Multimedia -- note that there's also an "unreg_all.bat" file in that same folder to remove those entries. That folder BTW holds 19 files, ~8 MB, while the program's folder weighs in at ~15 MB, with 46 files, 2 folders.

I've wanted to check out Screen2Avi for a little while, but I was waiting till I had another reason to turn Medium fonts off in win7 & fire up TimeFreeze [efficient or lazy, take your pick :-) ]... today was a perfect chance. I did like HyperCam 3, but even though it worked Much better than Screen2Avi selecting custom capture window sizes, to me that wasn't worth the added *.ax files registered with Windows -- it's not so much the added registry entries, but the possibility of some conflict with all the other video stuff I have installed, & if/when that sort of thing crops up in the middle of a project, it drives me nuts. Then again I have plenty of alternatives to the HyperCam Media Editor, & don't do much at all nowadays with .wmv, so the bonus of the editor really wasn't a bonus at all. If you're not worried about that sort of thing, want the editor, &/or work a lot with *.wmv, grab HyperCam 3 with a big thanks to GOTD.

No trouble installing on XP SP3. A little trouble with the registration but managed to figure it out. Had a few problems trying to figure out the interface, recording and so on. Will stick with BandiCam. Thanks any way for the opportunity to try it out.
