At first I was impressed with the program. I tested it out with a small .wmv file that I had. I converted the .wmv file into a .gif file and a .webp file. In both cases, HQ GIF Maker created a much smaller file (362 KB) than my previous GIF Converter (1.4 MB) and the file quality was excellent.

But...

1) With an .wmv file uploaded, the program keeps crashing -- after just a few seconds. (Windows 10 with 8GB RAM)

2) The dragging of the red trim handles works only sometimes. Also, I am unable to drag the handle on the right. Every time I click on the red handle in order to drag it, the handle jumps a little to the left. Because of this, it is impossible to drag the right red handle to the right!

3) There is no need for a separate pause button. In fact, having a separate pause button is a nuisance. For example, I wanted to pause very near the start of the wmv file. But, by the time I move my mouse pointer from the play button to the pause button, it becomes too late. My suggestion is: You need just two buttons-- a Play button and a Stop button. The play button can itself become a pause button when the video is playing. That way, one can quickly click twice on the button to start playing and at once pause the video.

4) I notice that once I click on the play head, I can then move the play head left and right using the left/right arrow keys. This is good because one can precisely position the play head. But it would be good if the screen changed as I move the play head. Unfortunately, this is not happening.

Also...

There are a couple of things I don't like about this program:

1) When I'm in the record tab, the program is taking a shot of my screen even though I have not pressed the record button. This shot is not actually recorded -- it only appears in the Record tab. But I don't like it. The program should record only when I press the record button.

2) By default, the program creates some folder in my Documents folder. Again, I don't like this. Instead it would be better if the program does not automatically create these folders. Instead, there should be a Setting screen where I can specify where the program should create its work folders. Each time the program runs it creates folders within Documents\HQ GIF Maker\Sequence\. These seem to be rough working folders. The program should automatically delete these folders when it closes. Otherwise, over time, I'll end up with a lot of these empty folders which is just a waste of space. And I don't like things messing up my Documents folder. I like to have full control of what goes into my documents folder.

3) Because the program creates folders within the Documents folder, I have to either keep Controlled Folder Access OFF or I have to make an exception for this program -- both of which I don't like doing! And because it makes temporary folders, each time a temporary folder is created I have to "allow" access to the folder....

4) If the program allowed one to add annotations to the recording, such as adding boxes, arrows etc., this would be a great asset for people who create online tutorials for software programs.

If it weren't for these faults, this would have been an excellent program.

I had no problem downloading and installing. My virus program did notify me that it was attempting to connect to internet, but I allowed it for a one time; program installed and it is registered to user.
