I was sceptical about this one reading the comments but decided to give it a try.

The capture generally function works very well and does not hog up memory resources as others do, which enables the smooth capture of anything (including internal audio). It is clear that some open sources have been used because there is great similarity to OBS Studio.

Whilst the full screen option works well, the area option does not seem to function correctly. All I get is a screen with a screen, going on indefinitely and it seems impossible to resize the window, so either it does not work or is not as user friendly as it should be.

The video editor is easy to use with very fluid operation. It is far from Pro though and so the developer should remove this moniker until and unless the features offered actually match a real Pro editor.

When people see Pro in a title and then immediately see that it is not then it tends to put them off going any further, so it is the best interests of the dev to keep this out of the title.

The settings are basic and could do with a few more user tweak options and it is clear that this is an app in early development.

I can see quite a lot of promise in it's future and good to see that it's at a much lower price to buy than we often see on here.

However, whilst it is still in what I might describe as a Beta phase, $10 would be a more realistic price point at this juncture and I feel that more people would be willing to part with such an amount to get the current set of features.

It's one that I will keep an eye on because for the things that do work, they work well, quickly and with great fluidity and these things make it worth following progress.

I forgot to add that they also have a little Google Groups forum and as long as they take an active part, this should be considered a positive.

Installed and registered with no problem. However, after installation and even after exiting the program, my mouse kept going to a wait cursor state every few seconds. Even after uninstalling the software, my cursor is still going to a brief wait cursor state, which is indicative of some kind of background activity I never asked for. That sort of shit makes me very nervous, and you can be rest assured I'll be running a full malware scan on my system.

I get all these features from GoPro Studio (name similarity as coincidence? I think not), which is Free, btw, and which works great with my GoPro videos, quite a bit less so with other videos.
I don't need this - and I don't need the aggravation that appears to come with it.

On the www.goplayeditor.com home page, on the row with the download buttons, what is the rightmost button meant to do (the one with the Android icon and button text "For more expections")?

Firstly, "expections" is a spelling error, and secondly the Android download seems to be catered for by the central button "Download for iOS" (which leads to the m.coolpixel.tv website).

Li xiansheng, ni hao.
Apart from the spelling error in the button the right ("expections" is not an English word) , what I should also have stated is that when you click on the rightmost button nothing happens (not for me, at least). Why is that button there if it does nothing?

I do have a couple curious questions for the developer. If I want to go on Googleplay and download the Android version, will the license work on it? And should something happen and I need to re-install, since it is a 1yr license, will the license still work?

Reply   |   Comment by DJ  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

DJ, No, the code just for pc version. It won't work one year later...

Reply   |   Comment by Larry Li  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Larry Li, Ok thanks for clarifying the code wont work on my phone. I realize the license is only 1 year. Since it is a 1 yr license, can I re-install it, within that year, should something happen and I need to re-install my OS? I have had 1 yr, and even lifetime/no upgrade license from other developers here, but they will not re-install, even a few months later.

This program is on Steam aswell, maybe you want to check out some of the reviews there http://store.steampowered.com/app/751390/

Also when you click the publishers name on the right side, you'll find other programs from them offered here aswell.

After unpacking the setup, i saw the icon and immediately remembered i saw this somewhere on here before, SmartPixel it was, the predecessor to this but effectively, they renamed it to GoPlay, you can even find smartpixel.exe and smartpixelOld.exe in the install directory.

Other than that, the program utilizes a lot of free and Open Source libraries and frameworks, like Frei0r, MLT Framework, Modern Video Toolkit, Qt, which makes it rather big on the hard disk.

Here is a comparison between Free and Pro http://www.goplayeditor.com/pro

The program needs to "speak" with the internet when you use it, otherwise it will work in a unregistered state, non-pro as listed above.

Lifetime license for this is currently $63.90 as you can see, in that case i would rather go with OBS for screen recording (free) and OpenShot or Shotcut for editing (also free), very powerful and feature rich tools that can be used indefinitely.

A question for the developer: If I want to add subtitles to a video, are they embedded in the video itself or does it use a .srt file? Thanks in advance.

When you instal a software that occupies almost 500mb of your hard disk you expect it to be PRO.. The resources are very poor... I wanted to add some effects... and I try to chenge the video to 16:9 instead of 4:3 and that option is not there. When you say this software is a PRO one you are lying with all your teeth. I don't like lies.

Looking at the system requirements I was expecting some proprietary or licensed codecs etc. to utilize more of the GPU, so I was slightly surprised to see it used a lot of Python, ffmpeg, Linux code, and a bit of QT. It takes up about 500 MB of disk space, with folders in [UserName]\ AppData\ Local & Roaming, but is self-contained, without many registry entries, no added Direct Show filters etc., so might be worth a try if you're interested in this sort of software -- a basic video editor plus a video screen capture app.

It's a 32 bit app, which isn't unusual for me, as I run lots of 32 bit [rather than 64 bit] video software for compatibility. It started up but then froze in a win7 32 bit VM. In win10 64 bit it took a while for the app to start the 1st time -- I thought it was because Bitdefender was in the process of updating, but later found 3 GoPlay crash dumps. Afterward there didn't seem to be any abnormal delay firing it up, so it may have Bitdefender taking up all the available network bandwidth, or it might have been doing something like testing &/or determining GPU capabilities -- either way it'll take some longer term use before I'm convinced it's stable, & try to use it for stuff like screen captures that matter.

I've played around with a HD Avi file and I'm pretty impressed, splitting was frame accurate that I could see which is great, the previewing as I was working with the file was fairly smooth as I was moving the cursor along fairly fast, the rendering was a tad slow but in line with Corel VideoStudio.

Mostly this was simple to use unlike VSDC, Vegas and Magix.

Thanks for this.

This to me is a very beginner's type video editor. I saw on their website that a lifetime subscription is $63.90. You could get an infinitely more powerful video editor with Powerdirector for around $60.00 (lifetime). Even their 1 year price of $15.90 (after your free year is up) is not a good bargain when you could get the free version of the VSDC Video Editor, which again does MUCH more than this offering. For $20 (lifetime subscription) you get additional features like hardware acceleration.

Reply   |   Comment by Phoe  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+18)

Phoe,

>For $20 (lifetime subscription) you get additional features like hardware acceleration.
I understand why you stated this, because VSDC does little to explain that after one year, you have to pay again to have the same features.

For the GoPlay editor/recorder, the results I saw looked like the quality of the recording was slightly out of focus compared to some other screen recorders I use. Also, the partial screen area to record cannot be saved as far as I can tell. To me that was a big issue as well.

Just installed this and given it a 15 minute run through with existing footage and screen capture. As far as I can see it works flawlessly. I have more professional video editing software but for most purposes GPEPro will be fine. Much impressed with the simple "On-Screen" context related instructions.

Downloaded, unzipped and installed in a matter of minutes. Activation code arrived within seconds...quite impressive.
Click on the 'PRO' icon in the top right corner, add the activation code and adjust the settings as required.
Played about with it for half an hour and it seems very good indeed! The examples provided are excellent.
This programme is also available on Steam (at a price). The reviews on Steam are perhaps more constructive and generally are positive.

Thank you, very much.

Received license key, installed, activated, and tested on Windows 7 without any problems. The editor performs exactly as advertised. The one issue is that when installed on a system with a 4K monitor the user interface, while still usable, is the size of a large postage stamp. Thank you GOTD and GoPlay for the opportunity to use your software at no charge for one year.

I see people are starting to forget this is a giveaway site. We "graciously" as we see fit take advantage of these offers by GotD from developers seeking audiences & improvements in given software.

Be glad GotD is up and giving us daily giveaways, it may not be forever.

While i'm no fan of subs myself, 1 year is a long time & maybe like other developers might offer this again near subs endgame. Never know.

Will install then give feedback.

Joey,
There are plenty of sites with giveaways for the sake of testing. This sites as well as others do not do it as a favor not for you nor for me or anybody else. They make profit from the fact that people visit the site.
The better offers are, the more site entries, so complaining about a giveaway because it not up to standard or it is not lifetime given and instead an extended trial is not only not uncalled for, it is welcomed.

Joey,
To add to Takeshi's comments, for the most part, if a vendor offers an older copy of a software when they already have an updated version out the door, then it is doubtful they are seeking improvements.

Reply   |   Comment by DJ  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Joey, I'm agreeing, 1 year is not so bad. Especially for something that only costs about $16 if I want to buy it at the end of the year. So many programs cost more than I would ever spend, and if it's a limited license I would never try them because it's not worth investing the time to learn, and added risk of a new program on my PC, for something I know I'll lose. But if this program is really good, I could swing $16 when license runs out.

I've downloaded this and it appears to be on my computer, I've tried to open it 3 times but it only got to the, do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer, I clicked yes every time but the program didn't open. The 4th time I tried to open it and I got the splash screen which wants to know do I want editor or recorder, I clicked editor, the splash screen went away and it didn't open again. Finally the 5th try got to the program.

A little buggy to start, I hope the sailing will be smoother from here on.

@ "William", post #2: In that case, you for one shouldn't be wasting your time visiting GOTD, should you? A year's usage of a licensed commercial software product without cost isn't an "extended demo". It's an opportunity to have a 12-month-long try-before-you-buy. Or not buy.

As to today's offer, there are enough complaints on YouTube and the product's Google Groups forum to indicate that this Chinese company has ongoing difficulties in dealing efficiently with its paying customers.

Any developer that appears not to know what it's doing in regard to product licensing, updates, and support isn't one whose software I'm ever going to buy, so I'm not ever going to try it. Thanks, GOTD, but no thanks.

May I know it better? Because we still havent't check it out clearly...What's wrong with that?

MikeR, I

In your own words, "try before you buy", that is the definition of trial period. This is not an anti-virus or other program that requires the company to expend resources on a daily basis to keep the program performing at peak capability. Those programs have a subscription basis.

This has none of that pressure, maybe a patch now and again, nothing more. Have you ever given something away, told the receiver that the items is theirs to do as they wish, but finished with "next year on this date, I will come see you and break the item I gave you as a gift UNLESS you pay me not to"? Of course you haven't done that.

There are a few programs on this site that are truly free anymore, seems people either don't know the meaning or think that we are stupid enough not too see through their deception. Many programs have extended trial periods, nothing more. Most of these programs you could get the same amount of time, just by changing the email address you use once the first trial period ends.

By putting their software up for free, they are getting feedback, sometimes by IT professions and programmers in return. That feedback is free as well, quid pro quo is it were. Being that this is yet another indian giver, I will pass just for that reason alone. While this is better than the now typical 6 month trial period, it still falls into the extended trial period. What if apple and Microsoft caught on to this trick and decided that you not only have to pay for new versions, but you had to pay a subscription monthly rate just to keep your current OS functional, that would piss us off just as much.

iwontell,

"No XP though it's still used world wide by 100 Million users"

I'm not going to say anything good or bad about XP itself, but please do realize that while you may avoid the cost & hassles of upgrading, you do have the costs that come from running old hardware that is pretty low power by today's standards. AFAIK XP hasn't run on current hardware for years now, and lots of current & new software is incompatible with it. GoPlay Editor Pro requires DX 11, which XP doesn't have, & a graphics card that won't run in XP -- that's not because the dev feels one way or the other about XP, but because those are things the software needs to do its job as designed. DX 11 simply does more than DX 9 -- more current main stream graphics cards do quite a bit more than graphics cards released during the XP era.

Put another way, if it's unfair for people to ignore the 100 mill XP users [I have no idea how accurate that claim is myself] , wouldn't it be more unfair to ignore the maybe 80% of Windows users that have moved on, locking their devices at decade old performance levels?

One year license only - well, I understand why, but it is not interesting for me. If I need something for work or regular use, I have no problem to pay for it (and typical one month demo is quite enough for testing). If I find something interesting, but I expect very rare use, it is not worth to download and learn for a limited time. In this case I have access to Camtasia if I really need it and on my home computer I have some free alternatives with far less power (just enough for screen/webcam capture and basic editing), but unlimited license...

PS I see that they have one-year license as a standard product for affordable fee (and the lifetime one isn´t expensive too) - maybe I shall give it a try, it seems simple enough...
Does it support green screen? It is the only feature, which I miss in the free alternatives I already have...
