Installed on Windows 10 x64. The player launches, then nothing. No right click, no option to open a file.

What upsets me about this kind of sofware is that they use a LOT of free libraries (ddl) distributed under GPL licences (like FFmpeg) and they do not comply with the terms of these licences: no mention of that anywhere, no copy of the licence, etc...

I tried playing back a 4K file that I had recorded on my camera (4K/100M) but it played back in slow motion and the sound was distorted. When I file had finished it locked up my computer.

I have played back the same file in another video player with no problems. My computer monitor is 1080p but it still displays the 4K video.

Well, I gave it a quick run up. User interface was pleasantly uncluttered. I opened up a DVD .iso file (Crazy People (Dudley Moore)), and went full screen. The aspect ratio was wrong. There may have been an option to fix this, but I'm not sure that playing a DVD at the wrong aspect ratio is ever going to be a useful feature. The picture quality was also far, far poorer than playing the same DVD using VLC (free), worryingly poor in fact - like there were real issues. Could have been a one off issue with this DVD, but I'm a busy man. Uninstalled, moving on.

despite all the comments i decided to install.
I managed, and registered, nevertheless when i run it there is a window appearing that is have way through and drugging any iso into it it does not do anything.
pressing play button brings a window asking close or search for more info.
after about 5 tries it started to do something different. it showed a black blank window.
the video progress bar advanced but no video no sound.
interesting software a specially that on their website is written:

"Powerful Free Music & Video Player"

why it say that its free?

nevertheless I am willing to resolve the issue with developers if they have the willing.

Playing video, the quality of the picture depends first on the quality of the video itself -- 2nd comes the quality of the display panel, & often as important, the electronics in a TV for upscaling etc. -- 3rd comes the hardware you use, because that determines how much post processing is possible, and also determines what can be sent to the display, e.g. you need HDMI 2 [or better] support for 4k @ 60 Hz. Using dual memory channels is also important.

Windows software like madVR & LAV Filters can make a difference, and may be built into players. The Win7DSFilterTweaker & the Codec Tweak Tool can help by letting you choose some of the software Windows uses beyond the players themselves to display video. A big part of PowerDVD Ultra is the software enhancements they've added that work more-or-less like these separate add-ons, e.g. madVR & LAV FIlters, to improve the picture. But again [as above], the hardware you're using sets the ceiling on how much of this processing can be done. VLC was just updated, and some of their improvements could give you a better picture, but [unencrypted] Blu-ray playback is still experimental.

Players like the Dimo 8K Player & Leawo's free Blu-ray player OTOH do understand the way Blu-ray discs are laid out, with several playlists [often many of them fake], and with the video often split across several files [often many of them fake, with DRM notice screens etc.]. These sorts of players compete with their feature lists, e.g. the Dimo 8K Player's support for screen recording. They can often handle reduced size playback windows a bit better than VLC IMHO. But like most players they offer little or nothing in the way of enhancing the picture you're viewing, so you may want to look at madVR &/or LAV Filters to help with that end of things.

That said, there's nothing wrong with having more than one player in Windows, e.g. VLC for some types of viewing, & Dimo 8K Player [or similar] for others. And if you're running Windows 10, you probably want to have one or a few, since it looks like Microsoft is putting the venerable Windows Media Player out to pasture in new versions, in favor of their movie app in the store, with its Much more limited feature set.

I have it from a previous offereing https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/dimo-8k-player-for-windows/ and it is so ugly and the colourscheme of the user interface looks like it was designed by someone who is colour blind! There is no About option to find out what version it was, no conventional menu icon and no embeded version data in the executable so you can see what it is and who made it in the File Properties option in explorer, not signed either it's just horrible to use. It has remained unused since installation last august. I don't understand what the developers are trying to achieve with this product it has no redeeming USP that I can see.

I'll go with the users. I really like the idea of a Music and Video player but from the comments its not encouraging to try this out.
Been using KMPlayer and VLC side by side from viewing and listening experience, also todays Giveaway doesn't inspire confidence.
So thank you for your efforts, i like todays Game Giveaway though.

Title of software is misleading in the fact that 8k content doesn't even exist yet for the mainstream and unless you have a 4k video monitor hooked up to your PC or laptop, you will not get any benefit from that as well.

I installed and played several .mkv files I had on hand, 1080p rips of Blu-Ray movies, including the Dark Knight Rises and found that the picture quality suffered when compared to the playback using Windows 10 Movie and TV app: image quality had less pleasing color and contrast and in moving and dark areas, blocky pixelations appeared where there appeared to be none in the original rip. Lack of immediate response to typical keystroke commands like Spacebar to play/pause or Esc to get out of full screen mode and no visible menu appearing when the mouse was over the movie image made using the player awkward. I like the idea of some of the features, like the replay sections and produce gifs and record but the overall user interface experience and lack of playback quality made me uninstall. Players like this need to provide a better experience than their free counterparts like Media Player Classic, VLC and native windows media apps. I look forward to the next version - perhaps the developers can keep the good and improve where needed.

Installation was very easy. The GUI is very poor. << means 50% slow motion, with >> you can enhence the speed up to 1000%. These settings can be restored only with << or >>,i.e. there is no direct way to get back 100%. It can make a picture from the movie with a click on the camera icon, nothing special. The screen recording I've not tryed, however it's also nothing special. In my opinion, this program is never worth the 59.95 bucks. Okay, today it is free

Luckily lifetime licenses that expire after a few months doesn't happen very often. It happened to me once or twice. Once on all three computers that it was installed (and it wasn't a 6 months license). The other time that I remember it was expired on only one comp. so I thought I simply forgot to enter the license code. So from my experience I wouldn't say that "GOTD licenses are notoriously tenuous" and I install a lot of software from GOTD...

Down loaded and installed OK. Tried some 4k video and it plays back like it is in slow motion and very unstable. HD video is also playing back very poorly. Both my test videos play perfectly in Microsoft Films & TV app. Can't find any settings to improve playback so will uninstall.

There are a lot of free players out there that don't have the licensing problem, for example...PotPlayer, KM Player & VLC. I've been using PotPlayer for quite a time now. It plays any video or music file without any problems with their codec pack install and it gives you free updates automatically.

I have to admit, I don't see the reason for anyone to purchase a media player when VLC is 100% free. With that being said, I have tried 8K player once before when it was given away previously.

It ran well, played everything I threw at it. Installation was relatively painless, as was activation. I don't know if anything has changed since then to now as I'm not going to download it again. I didn't have any license issues as others reported either, I had it for about a year and used it off an on just to test it.

It's hard for a new company to release products like this now, as there are plenty of free alternatives that does nearly, if not everything, 8K player and others like it can do.

To each their own though, for those who do not like the current slew of free alternatives 8K player is a good player that will do what you want it to do and more.

With a title of 8K you would think that it could play 8K videos, but it's not in the list of things it can do

Reply   |   Comment by Brian  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+102)

Brian, it is in the claims on the page linked to in product homepage field...

"Gives you super easy but crazy Blu-ray, DVD, H.265, 4K 5K 8K Ultra HD, 1080P HD movie playback experience on Windows (10)."

but since no one produces 8K video and even movies in the theatre are only normally in 4096 x 2160 or similar resolution let alone ANY consumer displays capable of rendering true 8K ie 8192x4320 frames in native resolution non-interlaced at a decent frame rate... for the forseable future consumer 8K movie playback is a pointless dream the eye does not have the resolution necesary to see the benefits of 8K even with a screen the size of an entire wall in an average house.

Only point I can see for 8K video is for 360 dregree UHD imersive movies but as yet no one produces a 360 degree screen or 8k 360 degree movies to play on them.

I have downloaded this every time it has been offered on GOTD. Every time, after about 30 days, it became unusable with a nasty pop-up message - "This license has been banned." I emailed them and was sent back a NASTY response, as if I was some sort of pirate criminal. I never used it long enough to evaluate it properly. I am quite happy with Pot Player and using VLC as a back up. Needless to say I will not even waste my time to download or try to evaluate this anymore.

I tried bringing up the last software I downloaded that Dimo gave away here as giveaway of the day on December 31st 2017 which was the MTS Converter 3.6.2 and it also stated that "This license has been Banned" ..I never even used it once..
Seems like it happens to all of their software not just the players. That's kinda messed up.

Reply   |   Comment by Jeff  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

The gregg, did you made an update? Making an update of the program will void the license.

The gregg, never had that happen with any Dimo software offered here so far. Even installed and newly registered Videomate 3.0 from May last year today without any problems.

I had a similar experience with the licence last time it was featured here. Not gonna bother again this time. Also, in reply to other comments I also used VLC for everything but it's 4K playback is seriously lacking that's why I tried this. And to be fair, during the 30 days Dimo worked well enough.

The gregg,
i don’t think this developer should use this platform to promote their software as customers like myself get a “This license has been banned." message on all their software with the response from the developer stating that as it was a giveaway of the day they cannot look into it and then to say they will give me a 50-present discount for a new licence

The web page is open to the public, so I wonder if there is a relationship with GOTD at all.

GOTD is usually one day only, yet the web site promises 2,000 free licenses per day, ongoing.

Jeff,
After reading your comment, I checked all the Dimo software I have purchased and received from Giveaways. All have been cancelled with the same message you received. I will never buy or take advantage of any giveaway of a Dimo product again . . . ever!

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention. I never would have discovered this until the next time I tried to use the software and I probably would have thought I had somehow caused some curruption of the installed files!

kui_, for those of you blindly downvoting, i blocked the program in the firewall during registration, that is what i always do for all programs as a standard procedure and then allow online activation manually if needed and required, so i never received that block notification initially and it registered fine, try it. I also tried to use the Youtube Downloader after that and it worked. Haven't tried the Media Server. So during registration, the program makes a license check on the server and then triggers the internal block message. Maybe they had something completely different in mind, that after a certain period of time (like 30 days), they make the key unavailable for registration by banning it or deactivating it but it then triggers for already activated giveaway versions too once there is a server check. That's kinda awful.
