The main thing I don't like is the background of the text for the icons on your desktop is not transparent and displays an ugly red color. I'd prefer a black color if the background of the text cannot be made transparent.

Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it to work in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, or Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Just now in Vista Home Premium x64 I ran it in XP SP 2 mode, and that is what it took to get it to work. I am going to try the same in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, it is a desktop computer, I know other Windows 7 user said they got it to work, I didn't try XP SP 2 yet through. It's last minute, sorry. Thank you Giveaway of the Day, I really like this animated wallpaper, I like fish a lot, and appreciate you guys getting this one.

I normally love screensavers, but this came right back off.

1. Being it's a wallpaper, not something that comes one when computer is idle, it's an unnecessary resource hog.

2. Synchronized goldfish swimming?

3. Changed my screen resolution to "romper room" size and could no longer get to the desktop setting to turn it off. Had to go through control panel to bring up wallpaper to make it "break" and turn off.

4. Difficult to uninstall, since it's "on" you still have to go in and delete the folder with the program.

Tied twice to install on my Compaq laptop with Windows Vista, Avast and PC Tools Firerwall. Installs fine but wont run. Settings window opens blank, then closes. Then leaves a black background. Program Icon sits at bottom for a couple of secs then disappears. Tried disabling firewal but still no success. Uninstalled as could get it to run. Maybe Avast sees it as a virus or malware???

(Win 7 Home Premuim - 64 bit)
Tried it and it seemed to "self destruct". The image was there (fish, bubbles, background), but nothing appeared to be "moving". Then I was notified that "Explorer has stopped working" and was asked if I wanted to report the error. The background then changed itself to black (as in not using an image, but instead using a color for the background).

I'm wondering if perhaps my Anti virus software (or something similar) kicked in and shut it down? In any event, I'm not willing to give it a second try. :/

#60, Joji, I have no affiliation with GOTD, for-free-on-internet.com, or with the websites that my handle links to (i.e., I don't make any money directly or indirectly from posting here). I do follow 4 Free, although I don't post there, and I was surprised to find out that they pay attention to what I post here. As for their dispute with Ashraf, I assume that they have cause, but I'm not involved and have no opinion. Ashraf is free to post whatever he wants, but he's not one of the people whose opinions I value. You can't develop skills that exceed your innate limits, just as I'll never be a ballet dancer or a quantum physicist, no matter how much I tried.

Comment #10 is mine, but I don't have exclusive use of the handle "Fubar", so sometimes other people use it, and sometimes people intentionally pretend to be me. I assume that people here are smart enough to know the difference.

Program downloaded and installed fine, but clicking on the program link in the stsrt menu caused an error messsage from windows saying that the program had caused a problem and no change to the desktop! subsequent re-tries yielded the same result!

Too bad, This looked like a nice one

couldnt get right click to work to bring up menu to clear icons on desktop. exited. cleared desktop and went to 800x600 rez to see if works better there. desktop picture with icons cleared stop it from coming up. set desktop picture to none. tank came up options. hid options. only shows sunbeams on the backround ... no fish no bubbles . sound? i bet the graphics are supported by certain groups of display cards. mine is a intel 82845g/gl etc card.

There seems to be a rather annoying bug. I can't get it to 'remember' the "Don't show this at startup" setting. Whether I close that window with the [X] or with "Hide this window" doesn't make any difference. Every time I start the app that window keeps appearing.

This is a fun program. Make sure you have the resources to use it. ie: extra ram, faster processor.

I am using Windows 7 x64. Installed no problems. This is an application, not a wallpaper. That is why it's not loading. You can set it to load with windows also.

As far as no goldfish? Maybe they ran out of fish? :)

The only problem I see is my desktop drag and drop is disabled while it's running,

I don't use icons on my desktop at all and was disappointed I could not get the default icons/details off the screen.

Am I missing something? Looked everywhere. Doesn't seem to be an option to run the program without icons. Ew.

Thank you... but those icons don't do it for me. :\

Same as a lot of people here. I got the background and bubbles but no fish. There must be a reason why it works on some systems but not others. Nice try TK... comments 26 and 27. I will keep it for now. Maybe the publisher will come up with a fix. Thank you GAOTD team for all of your efforts. Thank you to the publisher, AnimatedWallpaper7, for the offering.

OK I got it working. Not a security issue per my original guess (comment number 23). The problem turned out to be: this program does not work if "Show Desktop Icons" is un-checked (i.e., this program fails to work if the desktop icons are hidden).

Once running, this program disables right mouse click on the desktop (context menu), disables ability to drag desktop icons, disables ability to hide the taskbar.

It uses ~20% of my CPU time, but that probably should not be held against it too much since my computer is really old and slow.

The background is pretty. However, the fish move in such a non-realistic way as to be distracting.

This one is not a keeper.

I like the concept and would use it once in a while just to break the monotony of my desk top, however it needs a little polish first (see problems below).

Features I would like to see (mentioned earlier by others) - If there was a minimize/expand all keyboard shortcut (hide the icons/open windows/task bar) for the desk top I could also use it as a screen saver when I walk away as my computer sits right in my living room.

Another cool feature would be an option to make the open windows semi-transparent (I think this is a feature already in Vista and higher, however I am using XP Pro).

A few problems:

Does not seem to support dual monitors on my XP pro (it would be nice to switch on/off the display independently on each screen or maybe a different display on each). Even if you can't support dual screen, may I suggest at least have the ability to align the display left or right on the desk top when not using 'stretch' mode (so the image is not split between the two displays.

You loose the ability to 'right click' the desk top (not a big deal, just thought I would point that out).

Animation is choppy especially in 'stretch' mode (probably because of the dual screens, however other similar programs are more fluid in this configuration).

It's cute, to be sure, but not recommended unless you have pretty beefy hardware. I put it on an older Dell laptop just for fun, and it's consistently demanding 28 to 29% of my CPU. Makes other applications run just a little bit jittery.

I noticed there were a few comments about no right clicking. Well, you can right click and get up the add new folder and shortcut options, etc. But you can't get to the Properties (XP) or the Personalise (Vista) options. All you have to do, however, is click the icon of the PC screen in the tray. If you hover your mouse over it says 'Animated Wallpaper'. And then you have the option to 'Exit' from the wallpaper if you want to change it to something else or personalise your settings from the desktop.
You can also download the other wallpapers from the site and demo them until you click on the screen. Then a nag screen informs you that this is only a temporary situation and suggests that you buy now you've tried. I wish the company would find it in their heart to giveaway the autumn wallpaper. :)

Pretty cool giveaway, but there were a few things I didn't like:

1) The size of the image is pretty small, so that when you stretch it to a big resolution, you really loose quality. Of course, making it bigger would eat up more resources, but it would be nice to have the option.

2) The background is simply duplicated on multiple displays. Again, this goes to the resources issue, but it would be super cool if the fish swam off one monitor onto another.

3) I can't seem to move my desktop icons either. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

All in all I wouldn't run this normally, but I don't run much of anything that takes up resources. It is something cool to throw on the screen from time to time (like when the nephews come to visit! =)

Had to put my 2¢ worth in here as well. Downloaded and installed on my XPsp3 system with no trouble. This animated wallpaper is really nice to have especially since I use Magentic screensavers that have animated screensavers (but not wallpapers). At least I couldn't find anything. That is why I chose to try this program. It is very nice especially if you like fish! Very relaxing! So far, this program does not interfere with anything. Just remember, this is wallpaper and not a screensaver. Big Big difference! Thanks GAOD!

Sorry to say it doesn't work on my Windows XP Pro SP3 system.

Downloaded OK, seemed to install OK (went to GOTD web site after installation completed--"Thank you . . .", etc.), but when I started it, I got an icon in my system tray from which a balloon popped up saying something like "Animated wallpaper is running." Also got a settings window with 3 buttons and 3 checkboxes.

What I DIDN'T get was the animated desktop. :( Uninstalled it, deleted the zip file, ran my registry cleaner, downloaded it again, extracted setup.exe from the zip file, ran setup again. No joy.

I've gotten several goodies from GOTD that work fine. This one doesn't work for me.

What may be interesting to others is that I uninstalled it again and downloaded aquarium2_demo.exe from the animatedwallpaper7.com web site. It's supposed to be the same program but is only supposed to run for 3 minutes since it's a demo. Well, that demo doesn't work either but I get a nag screen after 3 minutes telling me to buy the program. No way!

Too bad. So sad. Not glad. :(

@Fubar - it is so good to have you back here.

There are some glitches though:

Your background gets restored on exit but when your backgroud was stretched, on exit it will not be streched and you have to adjust manually.

De settings will only be remembered when "startup with Windows" is checked.

Interaction with the desktop is not the same with the wallpaper turned on: No right-click; fixed icons.

Icon background is changed, transparency gets lost.

It is a bit incompatible with "fences":
Double clicking the desktop to hide the icons does not work while the wallpaper is on.
When the icons were hidden with "fences", the wallpaper returns placeholders on your desktop.
Those placeholders are clickable, doubleclicking returns the hidden icons over the placeholders. Icons will function normally.

And there are some nice to haves in my opinion: settings
enable/disable bubbles
different size fishes
different fishes

But overall I like it. It would be nice to see some more from AnimWallPaper7

I installed on Vista with no problems. After installation and validation, I thought that then the wallpaper would magically appear on the screen. It is only after one opens the start menu, finds and clicks on Gold Fish Animated Wallpaper that the magic happens. I've not heard of animated wallpapers before, so this is a real treat. The animation involving fish, bubbles, green underwater plants and shafts of light displaying behind the screen icons is very appealing, almost mesmerizing.

This program does not work.

It says it is running, but nothing appears on desktop.

I use WinXP in Limited User mode, installed this as Administrator. Perhaps the programmer(s) of this don't understand computer security, in line with attention to details such as not spell checking their web page. Security being the problem is just a guess on my part, I'm not going to waste time debugging this toy.

No... on second thought... The right-click should ideally have its original function restored to it that's currently gone. Left-clicking (or perhaps double-clicking to make it more deliberate) on the wallpaper could simply hide/unhide the icons. Additionally it should have a 'Hide icons on startup' option. Also the automatic hiding of the windows should be made optional. And you should be able to undo the hiding of the windows with the regular Windows 'Show Desktop' button in the system tray which minimises all open windows and restores them (as long as you haven't restored an individual window yet).
