Impossiball Mission 4.9Mb
I wouldn’t normally review a game written in a short time, for a mini-game competition, except that in this case it’s a really very good game, with 17 levels, a secret level and a game level editor included. It was written by the same author as DG2 Here and has one or two similarities to the free game last weekend Winterball; which being more recent may have got an idea or two from Impossiball Mission!
Whilst the graphics are nothing special (though perfectly adequate for the game), the gameplay certainly is, with one-way direction block gravity changers, laser beams, teleports, springs, crates, and power-ups. There is a hefty emphasis on completion, to try to beat the high-scores table. The music is very good too. It’s a very innovative game, with loads of gameplay!
Trying to cope with upside down gravity takes just a little bit of getting used to though I adapted to this very quickly! Sideways on gravity is easier to deal with! The first three or four levels are really quite easy or very easy, but the difficulty soon racks up! You move with the arrow keys, gravity permitting, and jump with the spacebar, of course in the opposite direction to gravity at the time! If you find the concept of changing/changeable gravity difficult, just think in terms of walls attracting in one of four directions, down, up, sideways left or sideways right! You might find you need to press/hold two arrow keys immediately after pressing the spacebar to jump. Timing and reflexes are very important in this all-action puzzle game. Not only do you have to find your way around, but you also have to be/become very adept at jumping/changing direction at just the right time, as well as hitting the gravity changers in the correct order to complete the level by getting the ball into the exit hole.
You also meet some new added features in the later levels, which helps to maintain interest. The game plays against a background of scrolling stars. You can play full-screen by pressing the 'Enter' key at the start-screen. Use select and arrow keys within the menu and choose 'Campaign' to start playing. Gameplay is only saved per session, though High-Scores are retained.
It’s a great game, and if you find the first few levels too easy, just wait until you’re further into the game! And you can try making your own levels when you’ve got as far as you can, or completed all of the levels!
It’s certainly lots of fun!
