HitBlock 2.7Mb
If you’ve enjoyed Wuchtel’s World 1 & 2 Here, you’ll like HitBlock. It’s a really most excellent Dutch Crillion clone that took eight years to make. It plays very similarly to Wuchtel’s World, but has some extra puzzle elements with many additional features; and some very good and imaginative puzzle levels, some of which are quite complex and complicated to solve. There are crumbling blocks which do not bounce the ball back, hidden entrances, one-way doors, monsters moving either according to preset patterns or actively pursuing the ball, glass that can be broken only by monsters, snow blocks that freeze the ball for a while, bombs that blow up monsters or otherwise impassible tiles, switches, colored deathbringers, more obstacles , special blocks and many more.
Basically the premise is, can you solve all of the levels and escape from the dungeon!
The ball bounces quite slowly, which can make breaking all the bricks in wide open areas a bit tiring. (You can speed it up by holding down the spacebar.) It goes up and down on its own, and you make it go to the left or right. Multiple bouncing off blocks is a good tactic when you can do this.
The install, tutorial, game and game menu are all in English.
There is a very full tutorial (37 levels) to get you started. Skill and brain power are needed to solve all 200 levels. And should you finish all of them you can always start up the editor and build your own levels/new challenges! (The tile set menu pops out using the arrow symbol at the left of the editor in the 'final' version)
“The principle is simple: use the arrow keys to bounce a ball around the screen, clear all the blocks in order to go on to the next level. The catch: you can only clear blocks that have the same color as your ball! Since you can only change the ball's color by hitting the special "change color" blocks, HitBlock is more of a puzzle game than an Arkanoid clone. For example, if you hit the special block that changes your ball's color to green before you clear out all the yellow blocks, you won't be able to clear all the yellow blocks if, say, that special block that changes ball color to yellow is sandwiched between blue blocks. Beating all 200 levels of HitBlock thus requires a combination of careful planning and reflexes (although you don't need superhuman reflexes, since in most levels it is easy to predict and ‘control’ the ball's bouncy paths).” It’s slight inaccuracies of judgement or slightly incorrect predicting where the ball will go that often cause the most problems, apart from working out what to do next or the sequence of moves you need the ball to make!
Solving some of the “hard” levels onwards is anything but simple though! There are also hidden death stones, which is just ever so slightly(!) ‘unfair’, as you’ll have to replay the level and remember where these are to avoid them, next time around!
Use ‘Alt + Enter’ or menu options to play full-screen. The menu is mouse navigated and there are several hundred user custom levels/levelsets available from the Internet database, via the game menu - click on ‘sets’ and ‘refresh’ to see these. The game is played with the ‘arrow’ keys.
It is undoubtedly one of the very best frozen fruits type games out there!
It has excellent graphics and music and is very highly recommended! It’s a splendid game - Do try this one!
