Night of the Hermit 5.1Mb
I’ve decided to post an extra game today as there are no gamegiveaways this weekend. Night of the Hermit is an amazing cartoony adventure that took its author Roy Lazarovich two years to make, and this really shows in the whole game quality and experience.
It’s one of the very few freeware adventures that really leave me in awe over the amount of time and effort put into the making of it. The graphics, story, gameplay and side-splitting dialogue are really exemplary and of the very most superb quality. It reminds me very much of the classic Sierra adventures which I always enjoy very much indeed.
The story is about a hermit, who receives a message in a bottle which informs him of his inheritance of a mansion from an uncle who recently passed away. On arrival at the mansion, you find that the mansion has been turned into “The Crippled Badger Motel”. It is your quest to take back what is rightfully yours . . .
It is a 3rd person, 3D, point and click game with inventory and subtitles, that absolutely exudes quality. It’s a fan made game and stars Herman Toothrot, the ‘cantankerous’ old hermit that we first met on Monkey Island. With the exception of one short jaunt on a cruise ship, the entire game takes place in and around the motel located on the beach. But that turns out to be more than enough room for Lazarovich and his friends to create some very imaginative situations and over a dozen unforgettable characters, including a very lovable guard dog. Herman arrives on the island stony broke, and the dialogue is hysterically funny throughout the adventure. It’s quite lengthy, but never boring. The puzzles are excellent and there are ten hidden ‘Easter Eggs’ for you to try and find as well. There is one known game fault, trying to pick up the weight with the magnet, which crashes the game, but easy to avoid once known!
Do get the voice version if you can!
It’s absolutely brilliant, loads of fun and gets a very full and perfect, smiling two thumbs up from me!
