Mystic Balloon 19Mb
I thought while I was in a ‘puzzling frame of mind’, that I’d also post a free platform puzzle game that does have music, a level editor and believe it or not, 1500 extra custom levels. And, that should run on practically any Windows computer!
"This is a ‘cute’ (or maddeningly infuriating?) Japanese puzzle game made by freeware developers Domino and Fumina Matajurou with Delphi 6. According to the Mystic Balloon history page, Domino originally intended to develop for another genre, but somewhere along the line, he realized his engine-in-progress was better suited to making a mind-numbingly difficult puzzle game.
In Mystic Balloon, you play as a young witch, Mystia, who wanders into a creepy old castle on her way home one day. Unfortunately, after getting inside, she discovers too late, it’s a labyrinth from which she can ‘never’ escape. Players have to guide Mystia through all 50 stages of the game to the ending. After finishing the game, a bonus area with 5 extra stages and a new player will be unlocked. And after that …? Well, you’ll have to beat the game to find out. . . "
The extra levels (also free) come in level packs with 100 levels in each download <1Mb
Game Editor
The menus are in English, though note: - End leaves game, Exit leaves menu to return to the game. [You would have to figure out how to use the separate level editor as the help files are not in English unfortunately.] You can select some levels to play, though to learn the game you should probably best play the first few levels in numerical order. More levels to choose between are unlocked as you progress through the game.
The levels are carefully graded in difficulty. You might not always think so if you miss something afterwards seemingly ‘obvious’! - 'Timing' is also sometimes very important.
The puzzles can get tantalizingly difficult as you progress through them . . . (or some might say ‘impossible’. . . or very nearly so!)
In-menu:- ‘Z’ key to select and arrow keys; In-game:- Z key to jump, X key to perform action/ take or drop object. Arrow keys to move. Shift + arrow key to just change direction. ‘Esc’ key opens mini menu. You can pick up some items (blocks, trampolines, etc) and put them anywhere you wish. But you cannot jump or climb when carrying items. Solving each level is down to you!
It’s an lzh download, most downloaded decompression software programs will extract this. The game exe is in the extracted folder. (Windows itself doesn't recognise lzh files so can't extract them on its own.)
The game runs windowed initially, press the ‘F‘ key to play full screen.
Overall, it’s a very nice game that can keep you occupied and very well entertained, provided that is you can ‘cope’ with the glitzy graphics and ‘cutesy’ music! The puzzles are really excellent! And with 1500 extra levels to choose between . . . you're never short of variety!
Once again, sorry not too many walkthroughs. The video shows the first few levels being solved, and some hints can be found Here
