This weekends steam deals include Codemasters racing package and the Rockstar games catalogue. All of the games from the Codemasters package are either really good or brilliant. Fuel, which was released about this time last year is an amazing world of roads, dirt tracks and a massive collection of vehicles that include racing cars, motorcycles, trucks three wheelers and a whole range of other wheeled transport that covers some of the most beautiful areas of America, though this game is set after a major shift in the worlds climate and most of America is no longer habitable. You take over the character of a renegade racer who travels to these various areas (that include such places as the grand canyon) to race. The winnings from each race are more fuel which unlocks new areas of America to explore. There’s also a free ride option that allows you to explore the regions that you have unlocked. This is a massive open world racer that includes thousands of miles of road and track (though you can basically go anywhere on the map) as well as thousands of square miles of territory to explore. I’m actually really amazed that the normal commercial price for this game has come down to the level it has (around a third of it’s release price). I’d compare this gaes quality with the likes of the Call of Duty franchise, which does hold it’s value much better. Still, this game is probably less appealing to a lot of gamers. I’d certainly check out the videos to get a feel for the game. At less than £3 for the game until next Thursday 6th May, this is an amazing bargain; (it’s even cheaper if you buy the full package).

Dirt 2 is another amazing Racing game. With a tried and tested formula that the Colin McRae franchise has followed since the Colin McRae 2005 installment (or maybe Colin McRae 04), The graphics are out of this world and the awards are varied. This has to be one of my favorite racing games together with Fuel and Need for Speed: Shift (the latter isn’t part of this deal). The rest of the Codemasters pack are also excellent games. If you don't have any of these games, now’s your chance to pick up some of the best racing gamers around for only £12.50 for the lot; or you can buy individual titles for a 75% reduction. This is a deal not to be missed.

Rockstar have had an ongoing sale of all of their titles for the past four days and will continue till Monday evening (possibly Tuesday). You can buy the whole Rockstar portfolio for only £29.99, that includes all of the Grand Theft Auto series, Manhunt, Max Payne 1 & 2, Bully: Scholarship Edition and Midnight Run II plus the first two Grand Theft Auto games are also added to the package (which are free) as is Wild Metal another freebie. You can purchase all of the titles separately as special four hourly deals which usually start from late afternoon (GMT) to the early hours of the morning (the last deal is put up around 3am GMT). I bought the classic GTA package which included the two freebies, GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andrea for less than £5. (I already own them on disc but wanted the Steam versions as I'm more likely to play them via Steam these days) The price of the whole package is remarkable in that it includes the only just released episodes from liberty City that includes the Lost & the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, which normally costs £19.99 plus Grand Theft Auto IV which has dropped in price to £19.99. so you can see, the asking price for the full catalogue is basically giving you the latest game plus GTA IV for half price and all of the rest for free (i.e. GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Manhunt, Midnight Run II and Max Payne I & II games. This is another amazing deal, especially if you don’t already own any of the games. Even if you do own some of them it’s a superb deal.

I must warn you though that there has been a lot of controversy over the Grand theft auto games. You may not want your younger children access to these games because there is a lot of mindless violence in all of the games apart from Midnight Run II.

Rockstar Package

Watch out for the four hourly deals that usually single out one title from the Rackstar portfolio or sometimes packages such as the classic pack that I mention in the main introduction to this post. They are working on Pacific time but I’ve quoted GMT (UK time). The first four hourly deals start around 9am PST and end at midnight or 1am PST. Weekend Deal!
Five great Codemasters Racing Titles for 75% off. Includes DiRT2, DiRT, FUEL, GRID, and ToCA Race Driver 3.
Its $17.50 U.S. dollars. Pretty good deal.

A few of these have been offered a couple of times and I missed them, but not this time and for this price. What a deal, WOW. That Rockstar Collection is pretty awesome to. I just dont have that much to spend right now, cause I sure do like playing GTA.
I showed my kid GTA and she never even got into playing the game, she loved dragging people out of their cars and stealing them or beating up the cops and taking their cars.lol I think I created a monster.

Do you or does anyone like the new steam setup? I think it has potential, but I really dont care for it. I dont like new steam program, how it makes the store look and the games layout look. I preferred the old look. The old look with a new style would have been perfect, not sure if you can do that with the store, but for the games layout it would have been great. You could keep all your uninstalled games at the bottom and when you scroll across a game it tell about the game and highlights the box with the games features.

Yes I agree with you on the new look, though you will get used to it. You can change the game view to a list similar to the one we had in the old client, though there is always an information panel that gives details of whatever game is selected. you can change that view to one with a large icon of the game or to one that will only show around 4 games at a time.

I don't like the way when you click on the back page button it includes all the seperate tabs. At least with the old client GUI you could seperately control the pages.

As for the games, they are fantastic bargains. I repurchased Fuel for the third time (the reason was becasue my first purchase was on disc, the second purchase was for my second Steam account when I purchased the codemasters pack at christmas that included 18 games. I already owned several so tohugh it would be nice for my son, then when I saw this deal I though why not get a copy on Steam as well. The advantages such as keeping the game updated to the latest patches and not having to deal with a disc far outweigh the less than £3 cost. I'll probably give the disc version away at some point in the future (unless my daughter wants to race with us, but I doubt that as she isn't into racing games) and aslo decided to get all of the GTA series on Steam even though I already own them on disc as well. I may give those repeats away sometime in the future as well. Maybe as prizes if we get back into running the giveawayoftheday Steam group games. I stopped bothering running the servers because there were never enough players turning in. I'd hoped that we could all get together at a mutually agreeable time and have a ball playing a range of games, but it wasn't to be. :(

Regarding Steam's new look,now that I have found 'small mode',I'm quite happy with it,the rest will grow on me.
As WR has stated,this weekends deal is great for those that like a race,unfortunately I already have all the games on offer.Dirt 2 and Fuel both brilliant fun,the others not quite at the same level,but very enjoyable.

Thanks for the heads up about the Codemaster Package. This is the second time recently I have bought a game based on your review. :) I haven't played racing games much in recent years, I prefer first person shooters, but this deal was too good to pass up. I'm downloading Dirt2 right now instead of Fuel because Steam says they ran out of unlock codes for Fuel. Hopefully they will have some more soon. Do you have a steering wheel for racing games or do you just use a mouse?

I also wanted to say thanks in general for all your reviews and comments about games. As an older gamer(56) it's nice to read comments from someone who's been around for for a while. :)

Wow I didn't realize they would run out of licences. Though it was an amazing bargain (as are all of them), so I'm not surprised. The UK price of £2.74 was such a Steal I couldn't resist getting it again. Sorry you didn't get it.

I think that Codemasters deal was probably the best deal we've had so far this year, especially if you're into racing games and the Rockstar deal wasn't bad either. Unfortunately the deal has just ended. However the X3 series is still on deal. That's probably one of the best space arena games around, with spectacular graphics, though shattered horizons is as good, but that's only multiplayer , whereas X3 is single player. Had to wait a couple of days to get my license for Fuel but it was worth the wait. Pretty fun game. I can even play it pretty well using the keyboard although a steering wheel would be nice. I tried Dirt2 using the keyboard but it was too difficult to control.
