   An application has expectedly quit.

   Windows 3.x has come to the closing moments of its long life.

   On 1 November Microsoft stopped issuing licences for the software that made its debut in May 1990 in the US.

   The various versions of Windows 3.x (including 3.11) released in the early 1990s, were the first of Microsoft's graphical user interfaces to win huge worldwide success.

   They helped Microsoft establish itself and set the trend for how it makes its revenues, and what drives the company until the present day.

   Wow, is is so long ago. I remember being introduced to Windows after learning all the DOS commands. It was like a breath of fresh air. The ease at which you could open files and move them around, plus the interface was great and it came with a couple of great games. It took me over a year to change from Windows 3.1 to Win 95 when it was released and even longer to change to Win 98. I've only been using XP for about 4 years after buying the Millenium Edition, which despite the bad press I always thought was okay. Still, I never regretted changing to XP, and despite buying Vista, reverted back to XP.

   We didn't come onto the computer scene until 1999, by which time it was Windows Me. We had 2 computers with that on them, until one bit the dust because of a virus or something. The remaining one kept its WinMe until about 2 years ago when I upgraded it to XP. Now, both of our computers (one an old Gateway, and the other a 2ish year old Compaq) run Windows XP. My son's laptop, which I just fixed after about 1 1/2 years of trying to fix it after he screwed it up, runs XP, also. I'm still having to run updates on it, but I expected that. Anyway, will I upgrade any of them to Vista? Naa - but if I get a new computer like I have been wrangling to, it will likely have Vista on it. I am undecided on that part, still.
