Thanks for the information Bovi, I play so many games it's hard to keep up. I rarely become expert, let alone a veteran of most as I'm too easily bribe by the newer and more glittery games, which I know are not always as good as those that pre date them. Also the drugs I'm on do not help me with concentration so am easily distracted; though that said I am still interested. I've placed the links in a folder 'in my games to check out folder' within my games folder in the bookmarks. :) You've got me interested. I'll have to buy the expansion pack sometime soon if my local games shop (game UK) stocks it.
The American Conquest series is old by today's games of this ilk, but still an excellent game. I'll check the home site to see if demos are available. The original game and the expansion seem to have been abandoned by the official games site, but they do have a trailer of the latest in the American Conquest series, called American Conquest: Divided Nation, which as I'm sure you can sus covers the American Civil War and includes such campaigns as The Texas War of Independence and the Battle for New Orleans.

There’s a US, UK and a German language button on the site.
I'm searching out the link to the other two that I actually own as I'm sure there's a demo available, well at least for the original game, American Conquest. The DVD covers give the above address, but as I said it’s no longer supported there. The Fight back looks better, though as I mention above I’ve never had the opportunity to play it until now (I installed it a last week, after deciding to check out all the games I have stashed on my shelves and in the wardrobe in my study as I no longer have room for all of them, and have decided to systematically go through all the DVD based games and give those that I will no longer play away as it seems such a same to just keep them there un-played on the shelves (though I bet once I do give them away I’ll have an hankering to play some of them, lol. Most though are pre 2002, and though the game play for many of them are still brilliant, they will no longer play on my latest computers. (The oldest is only a couple of years old) Though there have been some surprises such as American Conflict fight Back and Operation Flashpoint.
Damn you man, I'm now tempted to order this one right now. Lol
Yeah, I found the link:

There only seems to be a multiplayer demo; though there is a link to a video of the game. The link to the demo took me to what looks like a Polish site, but I couldn’t swear to it. I got no malware warnings, so if you have any interest, just check out the video. The games have got to be available for peanuts now.
