   Post on fatwallet.com says it's limited to only so many downloads/licenses. E-mail didn't say anything about that, but haven't been able to get the page to open in FFox or ie for hours so I've no idea if that's true or not, if the page won't load because the limit's reached or if something's broken.

   I applied for two codes, so am happy give one away to anyone who missed the deal. I've not had chance to reinstall the program on any of my computers due to my main computer being offline still, so the codes are still unused. I've been trying various fixes, but so far all have failed. (It may be the Motherboard that was damaged as well).

   I won a pro version some months back after it was given away here. I only bothered to apply for the extra licenses for my other computers for the reason Graylox mentions above and because I think Zoner is an excellent photo editing suite.

   Regular posters on this forum get first dibs. If no regular asks then anyone else can have it. :)

   My impression, FWIW, is that Zoner's not bad at all, with design/functions that remind me of ACDSee [ http://download.cnet.com/ACDSee-14/3000-2192_4-10000041.html ] back when it was the "Gotta Have" photo viewer/organizer some years ago. Nowadays the focus seems to be all on storing your images on-line, & given that many [most?] people use their cells rather than a point & shoot camera, guess it makes sense -- often easier to get your pictures from your cell on-line than it is to onto your PC/laptop.

   Ashampoo's apps are easier to use IMO, & always on sale -- pre-orders of 2 copies of their latest Photo Converter cost $5 US for the upgrade version per today's e-mail. For editing I like Corel's PaintShop Pro -- Photoshop's better but tons more expensive, & Paintshop Pro does layers almost as well, which is the part you really need I think. Paintshop Pro X4 ultimate drops as low as ~$30 upgrade on sale -- if you can get the upgrade version of P/Shop less than $200 you're doing good [this is the last year BTW before Adobe *Really Tightens* their upgrade eligibility].

   Why layers? If you shoot a picture in-doors, chances are the flash won't light the whole image [unless you've got a nice bounce flash, & an expensive camera that you can use it with]. Add a layer with a circular gradient centered where your flash was aimed, use it for a mask, & adjust the brightness &/or gamma. Done. No more pics looking like they were lit by flashlight. Camera & cell image stabilizers help, but hurt quality, so not using a flash at all is usually not the best, assuming you don't want to [or can't] setup lights, light boxes etc.

   Also with layers you can get some really cool effects such as making your images look like water color paintings. I used to create some excellent looking watercolor like images of National Trust properties. I'd put in new skies from my stock of skies to make the images look more interesting. (always found bland looking skies spoilt many of my old photos).

   You can even use layers to add people to your group photos and even sharpen an image with less chance of artefacts appearing using the usual sharpening methods.

    You mention watercolors, WR... One thing I used to like doing was using my HP printer to print on watercolor paper -- back then HP's ink was all water-based, though I've no idea whether it still is or not. I'd use whatever filters to minimize the image 1st, maybe add adding some watercolor effects, maybe one of the sketch filters, then after printing go to it brushing on regular watercolors -- I thought it was a nice & somewhat unusual effect.

    Sounds like a great idea. I've still got a watercolor pad somewhere. Was keeping it for my daughter as she has a bent for art. Given her just about all of my books (Drawing from the right side of the brain, A Art School Year in a book etc; plus all my paints, brushes, easel, canvas's etc. Lost interest a long time ago. Sort of considered taking pencils up again, but never seem to feel like it these days (probaby the opiates).

    The French PhotoFiltre 7 does layers. freeware for private uses (including non-profit organizations), smaller footprint, has a collection of plugins [no photoshop plugin compatibility- but users can write them- many are user generated] and generally is a good lightweight editor- it's the big gun I use for graphics on this wimpy laptop.

    base installer is just over 5 mb, and there is a portable version. slightly larger at 5.25 mb.

    PhotoFiltre 6.5.3 is available if you don't need layers- 4.53 mb setup, portable zip is 1.82 mb.

    the zoner 14 BDJ says it can be installed whenever, so I got a couple of backup keys, for much the same reason WR did. same build 7 as was here.

    no knock on zoner- but a 2005 dell laptop doesn't have the oomph (or display - 16 bit is all it can do) to make it a proper platform. for hack-n-slash G.P layered cuts and picture-in picture work, PhotoFiltre 7 is good enough and doesn't strain the computer.

    This Athlon II dual-core is a *much* better match. Good CRT with 32 bit color, more memory, far better card... well.
