Just one point:
Either Audials supplied GOTD with Trial-ware, OR they failed to register my software properly. Either way, it's Their problem to fix. I sincerely hope that Audials prefers Good Press, to Bad.
Everybody gets access to the same file to download, and installs the same software.
When everyone is getting the same problem - then it is almost certain there is an issue with the downloaded software.
When one user gets an issue with the software - but everyone else has success, it is likely that the software that worked fine for the majority is not at fault.
It may be that there was something specific to the "failed install" that was not present on everyone elses computer. It could be antivirus or antimalware software that is locked down too tight (preventing install of legit software), or it could even be the presence of a conflicting version of a file, or a missing component.
When installing across thousands of computers, neither the developer or GOTD have any control over their configuration or are able to do some sort of quality control check over the state of their windows installation. So it is always possible that in addition to user error, there may be other factors that prevent a very tiny percentage of users from installing the software.
The Giveaways come without support, warranty, promises or guarantee. Users who are not happy with the giveaway software can request a full refund of the purchase price paid to GOTD.
Official support is usually provided by the developers to users who purchase a license. To say that this is "Audials problem to fix", sounds like you believe you have some sort of contract or license entitling you to support. You don't.
While Audials might agree to assist you, they are not obligated or required to do anything.
