Ok this is kinda nice. I agree the price is a bit high for a screensaver. I also think it needs a way of picking some other animations in it. Over all it is not to bad. I suspect that the reason it has gotten so many thumbs down is because people don't seem to like screensavers anymore.

Win 7 64 bit, 1600x900 resolution. Installed with no issues. Music can be turned off in the settings. Resolution on "3-D" foreground animated leaves is just ok, not great, but resolution on the static background image is horrible, edges are rough, very pixelated, not a crisp image. Need higher quality background images that scale up properly to various resolutions.

well, i like screensaver and i still think back to the days of johnny castaway.
ag has some nice screensavers - golden autumn or winter 3d, but this one, i don't like it.
what really pi... me of is the age of the screensaver(s). come on, forest live is from may 2005, so 7(!) years old. how about a little refresh? no, there is no need to license an unreal 4 engine, but the grafics and animation could (should?) be improved.

I always enjoy 3d screensavers. Even though modern screens nowadays don't really need screensavers, I find it better than staring at my desktop all the time. It kind of gives you a break. Many people also use active wallpaper (wallpaper with a moving background) for a change.

I really enjoy this one. It has a few different backgrounds, a simple, relaxing music, a spider creating a web and little beetles and such moving around. You can also make the camera view "rock" a little and it has a clock. Simple, relaxing, old-style perhaps, but enjoyable. I enjoy watching the different styles of 3d and the artistry that goes into making a nice screensaver.

Through the years I've enjoyed a few 3d screensavers, and this is a nice one, but people who expect cutting edge, just about "holographic" and super realistic screensavers might just as well film their own wildlife or spider making a web movie and turn it into active wallpaper themselves with cutting edge cameras and screens. My self, why would I want a perfect copy of a nature scene? I might just as well look out of my window!
There are many types of screensavers and ways of showing 3d and I enjoy the imagination and artistry that people put into these screensavers, that's why there are different categories like nature, fantasy, cartoon....etc. If they manage to do what they say they are supposed to do like relax you, entertain you, make you laugh, or make you dream then I say they did a good job even though calling them "screensavers" nowadays may be a misnomer, they are still enjoyable.
Thank You!

3D FISH TANK - MARINE which appears as an advert in the GAOTD, when clicked, wants to install an add-on. In the past, screensavers were known to be infected with virus, adware etc.
Does anyone know if this is a safe software?
Thanks in advance.

I think the screensaver is nice and the music is calming. I do agree with the other posters that it doesn't seem to be totally 3D as the other screensavers I have from Astro Gemini. I don't use screensavers to save my screen as they orginally was made for, I use them for watching fun. I am glad to have received this screensaver today for free on this website. Thank you both GOTD and Astro Gemini.

System
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
HP Pavilion(2.1 GHz/64 bit/3 Gig ram).

The screensaver installed with no problems. It is basically a nice static image background with a 3-D foreground image of trees(static) leaves that move(nice) and ...... a bunch of bugs. that march across the screen on trees and web's.

Note: DO NOT INSTALL IF YOU HATE or have issues with BUGS!!! :-)

Note: (3-D means texture mapped polygons for the technically challenged... No 3D glasses are involved.. Think!, looking at a 3D world through a 2D interface) (Sorry... that 3D comment above just got to me)

Otherwise the screen save is fine! Nice peaceful music. It's a nice addition to their screen saver portfolio!

Put on your glasses now! ;-)

I'm not sure why Paul hates the music so much. Maybe he prefers rap or something, or maybe I have no ear for music at all because I like the music. (Or maybe he just likes to be insulting rather than offer constructive suggestions. That seems to be the norm for a lot of people these days.) In any case, I enjoyed the screensaver and had no problems installing it, and no problems so far with running it.

The only suggestion I would offer is that if this is to function as a screensaver, you might want to find a way to vary the stationary images a little more. Even though Brendan doesn't seem to realize that there are still plenty of people out there using old monitors who really do need a screensaver. (It must be nice to have lots of money to buy all the latest things.) That said though, a screensaver is supposed to prevent burn-in by making sure what is on the screen changes around.

Screensavers were useful when we had phosphor faced monitors, today LCDs can be damaged by endless loop of endless repetitive graphics that will not allow the LCDs to hibernate. And after few minutes of looking at, you get bored with it and the same old music with drive you insane.

Is there an option to get rid of the spider? The web lines are too thick and unrealistic.
Is there an option to insert my own background picture?

1. It would take more than a screensaver to make me forget ALL my problems.
2. ONLY CRTs need screensavers, LCD flatscreen and other more recent monitors do not need to be 'saved' pixels do not burn in the way cathode ray tubes do.
3. $10? Why that's almost enough for a special coffee at Sturbucks...

I downloaded the screensaver I must admit at first I did not think much of it. I left the computer on while I went out and I came back to music and a scene through a web of the sea, it was quite nice, I have windows XP and I would recommend it.

[Win7 64bit] I can't agree with all the negative comments here. This is quite a pleasant little screen saver, with random backgrounds (so it doesn't always look the same), and of course the price today is zero - nothing - zilch. As always with this company, the install happens straight away - no waiting for emails. If you don't want it, fine, but in that case, why waste time dissing software you are not interested in and are never going to use? Thanks GAOTD!

Cheesy, but tolerable. The graphics remind me of Pangea’s “Bugdom”. The audio is NOT tolerable. Loops every 1-1/2 minutes. Most annoying is the one screaming instrument and the continual woodpecker pecking. However, you can shut off the audio in the settings panel.

I feel some of the reviews hear have been overly critical.

Publishers releasing screen saver software still call them Screen Savers just so you and I know what they are. Their role of "screen saving" went out with Cathode-ray tubes.

Looking at the description of the software at the top of the page, the company doesn't make any claim to "saving the screen" they talk about taking you to a relaxing place. In this regard, the software is at least trying to do what it claims.

It isn't true 3D .. of course it isn't. Screen Savers are supposed to be simple and as small as can be.
Compared to 10-15 years ago, I doubt this program uses much more %age resource than its predecessors.

As for this particular screen saver image, I think it needs more going on in the background ... more fauna. Perhaps a Venus Fly Trap?
I liked the centre spider building his web, though I think he looks more like an 8 legged beetle than an arachnid.

Savers Savers these day and more akin to Mood Music (whale noise, rain drops, storm noises etc.) and, in my opinion, should be reviewed on that premiss.

If you're sat pondering the question to the answer 42 and your screen saver kicks in, if it provides you a momentary distraction, its doing its job.

"Full 3D environment;"
Totally misleading. 3-D like you never imagined something could be passed off as.

"Photo-realistic colorful graphics;"
Not even good graphics... it's 10 years out-of-date. If this is photo-realistic, then whoever wrote this description needs to see what cameras can do since the Kodak Brownie

"Ear-pleasing music and sound effects;"
Someone is either lying or they have no ear for music at all

"Choose the background yourself;"
I'd rather be able to choose the foreground, which in my case would be black. This is embarrassingly ugly :(

"Digital clock;"
Windows comes with one built in.... maybe the developer missed that little nuance

"FPS counter."
For what? Movies I am playing? I just don't get this. Maybe they needed another line to add to the description

Even for 10 or 12 year old software this has never risen above Epic Fail... mainly because no one cared to update it. It's a total embarrassment. Uninstalled faster than it got installed using "Your Uninstaller". Someone either needs to get a grip or just plain retire from the software game.

They charge money for this ??!!??

I´m surprised to see that there still is somebody who try to sell screensavers to these modern PCs we have today. It can only be for the fun-factor to show other ppl something nice on the PC. I haven´t used screensaver at any time because my PCs is always at work when they´re turned on !

$10 for something that you look at once is very expensive in the long run... but it have to be up to the individual person, how you spend your money ! Max $2 for this type of software, because there isn´t any kind of update or other options after the purchase !

While I'm highly appreciative of GOTD's work in sourcing
Free software, screensavers are no longer considered to be a viable
Software requirement as they chew up system resources better used elsewhere.

Thanks, but no thanks will pass on today's offering.

6 years ago I downloaded Planet Earth 3D from Astro Gemini, 5mb with an analogue modem. Took me 4 hours. Cost me $12,00. I still have it today. To receive free Screen savers from Astro Gemini is a real treat, even though we don't need them on Win7. This one is particularly nice compared to the last few that were given away. I found the last Titanic screensaver a total flop. The person who put this one together, did a good job. Thanks astro & Gotd.
BTW - installs really quickly and easily, nice not to have to fill in forms and stuff and wait for a KEY.

This is the first time I've complained about the "retail" price of software offered by GOTD, but $10 for a screensaver is too much. This screensaver offers nothing that a free alternative could do (images, clock, music, minor animation).
The 3D is misleading, as it is not actually "3D" (using 3D monitors, etc).
I am really disappointed in this screensaver, and I will uninstall it, but keep it to remind myself not to pay attention to any other offerings by this company.

Your screensaver installed cleanly on a Win7 64bit machine. The background appears to have too much red. Besides the bugs and the leaves, the rest of the screen appears too flat.
