This is exactly what today’s deal software is doing. This folder colorizer tool lets you add colors and/or images to Windows' folder icons. Seems trivial, right? Yet once you start using it, you'll wonder why Microsoft never bothered to incorporate such capabilities into Windows. It’s awesome.
Once you have installed Folder Marker, right-click the folder you want to customize. Go to “Mark Folder” item there, and click the icon you like. That is it!

Can the program produce colored folders in both horizontal and vertical orientation?

Nemo, no, it uses the same style as the folders you have in your system. I.e. for Windows 7-10 you will see vertical folders, for Windows 11 and XP - horizontal

Been using the free Rainbow Folders for years. It doesn't have the "lettered" folders but it allows you to pick any color from the spectrum instead of just provided colors. Also shows up in a right-click menu for easy use and a quick undo choice for when you are done with temporarily marking a folder.

Roger, Rainbow Folders is a really basic alternative for Folder Marker. It has only basic functions and is not developed anymore.

I´m looking for a program that automatically changes the folder color once it has reached a certain size, selected by me.
Could anyone please clarify if it´s possible to do it using this program?

Description above reads in part, “This folder colorizer tool lets you add colors and/or images to Windows' folder icons.” But at the program’s version compare site, it states the Home version doesn’t enable PNG and JPG images for folder labeling; only the Pro version does.

Buckley, Folder Marker has 2 options of folder customization:
Color-labeling and image-labeling.
Image-labeling means you can add a small image to a folder = F.ex. Arrow up for important files. The Home version can do this. You can download ICO files with image marks from the internet or buy the additional icons from the foldermarker.com
But if you would like to use PNG images as marks, yes you need Pro version for this

Buckley, I just installed the GOTD version this morning. It lets you add .ico, .icl (icon libraries) and .bmp files. I successfully added my own .ico file. I didn't try a .bmp.

this is a good program and i have used it before but a bit worried as on 1st run it is asking to update if i do will i then have to buy the full program or just delete and reinstall this free one
