tim, I had this software before, works great until the expiration date then built-in editor will stop working, your microphone will be muted and there will be limit on time recording to like few seconds at a time, in other words, not usable.

mike, Almost all of the software shared here is to give people a chance to see if they use it enough and like it enough to buy it when the license expires. The companies are in business to make money off of their products. Think of it as a year's trial. I've bought several that I had trialed here, because they were worth it to me to continue to use.

mike, This is way off topic. I really appreciate your knowledgeable posts here. You posted about Ashampoo back up program that Microsoft 365 Boot would make older backup media and USB flash drives not work. I asked you for a reference. I have searched (to no avail to verify your statement) and now asked on Quora.com. Info and answers imply that your statement was inaccurate. See https://www.quora.com/Will-Microsoft-365-Boot-prevent-consumers-with-Windows-11-from-booting-from-old-USB-flash-drives-and-non-Windows-recovery-media You can reply there.

tim, my recommendation is to install it. Before a year expires, I am sure that it will be placed again and you will be able to renew the installation for one more year, and son on. That is how many giveaways work.

J. Stampfel, Apologies for the lateness -- just now had the change to check out today's GOTD [it's 5:15 pm Est.] [that other mike is not me] -- so not sure if this will be posted or not.

BlackLotus is a paid malware component that has since had its source code leaked, so it & variants are going to become more common. The goal of BlackLotus and other boot kits is to start before the OS, so they have some control over the OS, rather than trying to subvert it, escape detection etc. BlackLotus adds its files to the usually hidden FAT32 boot partition usually used by Windows to store the Windows boot loader files, at the same time rolling back the list used by Secure Boot. To prevent this Microsoft has redone the way the Windows boot loader works, including tying the fix to the device BIOS. I have not been able to find if resetting the BIOS defaults reverses the changes to the BIOS -- Microsoft says that they are permanent. As per KB5025885 [linked above] bootable media, e.g., the WinPE used by the majority of bootable USB sticks, is not yet available. Nor AFAIK are there any details or instructions yet on modifying existing bootable media, if that is going to even be possible. Likewise, it appears to be unknown yet if the updates to Windows to enable this new boot process makes changes to Windows itself, so that a restored backup from prior to the fix would not start & run.

mike, Thanks for the clarification. I had searched for the Microsoft 365 Boot changes which configure a Windows PC to boot to the cloud version of Windows. This sounds clearly unrelated. And VERY IMPORTANT! Unbelievable that neither Microsoft nor any backup program vendors have announced about this. (Do you know of any?) My gmail is 1st init+ last as listed above.
