I use "Bulk Rename Utility" which is always free for home use.

This is 6 months trial only or pay $12.90 plus VAT for a further 2 years (total 30 months). This is a good handy software as it is easy to use but it is not something I would use that often to justify the price for time limited use.
It lacks thumbnail viewing to pick out which images you may want to rename, it is listing only, so images have to be corralled into separate folders to rename, this is a deal breaker for me since I would have to do this on Windows Explorer, which DOES have thumbnail viewing and renaming facility.
Shampoo Photo Commander can do all this and more for a similar price {when their sales come up) for lifetime use.

DenisX, no, the license details on this page at least say that it's lifetime, but with only 6 months support. the license should be continue after that.

Downloaded, ran set up, filled in information, received my customer number, clicked to proceed to download full version - and nothing happens. It just switches off.
