Vashin Michael (Exiland Software), I have been using version 4.6 from the previous GOTD, it's working fine for me, is there any new feature or improvement in version 4.9 to make it worthwhile to me to get and install 4.9?

Michael Vashin (Exiland Software), I decided it was worthwhile to install 4.9, and went ahead with it. Unfortunately I lost the configured backup job by doing so. So that would be something to look at for a future update, preserve user settings when upgrading.

All settings are stored in the "WorkingFolder\ExilandBackup.tid" file. You can move this file from 4.6 to 4.9 version

Easy-as-pie installation and activation after first disabling my antivirus for those few seconds. The program looks very easy to use, and should be excellent for meeting my needs. Thanks so much, GAOTD and Exiland!

As per the quote below, to renew the subscription for updates & tech support... Is there a fee for the renewal.
"The license fee includes one year of free updates and technical support. After one year, you can renew the subscription for updates and technical support."

Teresa Travnichek,

After 1 year you can renew your subscription to updates using the Personal Account on the program's website. The cost will be shown there. It depends on edition that you purchase. Usually the cost of subscription are as follows: for Professional is $19/year, for Standard is 9$/year.

It offers enough features to meet the needs of most people for making backups without being overly complicated to configure. Prior GOTD version 4.6 worked fine for me to make backups regularly. I like how it can do a full backup followed by a number of incremental backups, then starts over with another full backup, configurable as you want it.

If I install this software and I use it daily during a year, then my C: drive crashes. Exiland is installed on my C: drive.
I'll buy myself a new drive, reinstall windows...
Can I install Exiland with the same license as today ? And restore all of my files ?

tooteke,

According GOTD license you cannot reinstall Exiland Backup on another day. Installation possible only today.

If you need full license you can purchase the program here:
https://exiland-backup.com/backup-purchase.html

All settings are stored in the "WorkingFolder\ExilandBackup.tid" file. It is created when you first run the program. You can locate the settings file using menu "Tools - Open work folder with the task settings".

I have been using version 4.7 and am quite happy with it. A simple program that does what it says.

As an example, my laptop has an SSD with 3 partitions. I have this installed on "D", my documents on "E". (I only mention the drive info because someone stated they had issues and thought it may need to be installed on the "C" drive.) I have a weekly backup scheduled of "E" to an external drive. It works like a charm, creating the backup as a zipped file on the external drive. Pops up a little window at the start, clocks the process, then lets me know the end status, whether complete or if there was a problem. If my laptop is turned off during the scheduled job, I am told when I turn laptop on again that the job was missed.

The GUI is basic and not flashy but don't let that dissuade you, it works!

Many thanks to Exiland and the GOTD team.

Compliments to today's developer for a promotional giveaway that is totally fuss-free. No silly links to have to follow, no multiple steps required to install and activate. Compliments, too, on the software itself which seems not only competent but whose workings are so clearly explained at first run that it is pretty intuitive even for a beginner with no experience at all of backup software.

Unfortunately, I am experiencing a problem never encountered before with this type of software: it won't actually backup anything. My computer has a standard HDD as Drive E and an SSD as Drive C. Today's program seems to want a default installation to Drive C, not a practice I like. I have instead installed it to C:Program Files (x86). It has installed just fine.

I have set it to backup E: 'My Documents' to a Western Digital drive (USB) on Drive W. The WD drive is actually a redundancy, used as a fail-safe against the failure of my usual backup drive, a Seagate mains-powered external drive (Drive D). The software should work just as well with either of those external drives but instead reports: "Error: Drive E is not accessible".

I'm wondering if the install location I have chosen in C:Program Files (x86) is somehow the cause of the problem, because Drive E is very definitely accessible.

PeterW,

Please send me the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Exiland Backup Standard\WorkingFolder\trace.log" file to analyze the problem. I need to see whether your drive "E" is detected in the program.

How does this program differ from Windows backup that can send your files to an external hard drive? I am already using that kind of setup with my Seagate drive because their software couldn't work for me... Thanks so much!

Jennifer,

Sorry, I did not quite understand your question.
What is Windows backup? Is it whole drive C ?

Reply   |   Comment by Michael Vashin (Exiland Software)  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Michael Vashin (Exiland Software), yes - it backs up any directories I tell it to backup to my external drive.

Reply   |   Comment by Jennifer  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Jennifer,

Exiland Backup is a file backup solution. It is
intended only to back up of files (not for creating image of drive). To copy the entire C drive, use an another program to create an entire disk.

Michael Vashin (Exiland Software), Thanks for getting back with me. Just to confirm - is this software doing what Microsoft does too with its Windows Backup solution (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027408/windows-10-backup-and-restore)?

Reply   |   Comment by Jennifer  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Jennifer,

As I know, Windows backup creates snapshot of file system of drive and plus backup of other settings.
Exiland Backup is an another program (back up of selected files).

Reply   |   Comment by Michael Vashin (Exiland Software)  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Jennifer, I do not know about windows backup, but what this does do is to turn off the computer when it is finished. Since backing up may take several hours it is usual to start it before going to bed and let it go on, so this is useful.
I fail to understand Michael Vashin's replies. He DID help me with support in order to get started, I suppose he means no free support if it later goes wrong.
Also, why not use it for a full backup — to copy a disc or zip it? I use it for that and it works extremely well.

I extracted the files to a separate folder and ran setup as described. However, on Windows 10 I got 'Successful Activation' but no copy of the program. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks for your help with this. It sounds like a great program and something I could use (if I could get it).

Reply   |   Comment by Brian  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Brian, It is usually caused by the Antivirus and possibly the firewall NOT being disabled during installation. Not just this program but many if not all GAOTD installations.

OK...seems like I frequently have to ask this, but it would be nice to know if this is a 3-month, 6-month, or lifetime license. Any tech support offered? If this is an annual license (or several month license), am I still able to restore my files, etc.to a new HDD should I need to for a HDD failure in the future?

Reply   |   Comment by HellsBells  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

HellsBells,

According to the GOTD agreement this license distributes on the following:
- no free updates
- no free tech support
- non-commercial use (only for personal usage)
- non-transportable to another folder (non-portable)

However, the program works and you can always restore files from your backups. The program compresses the files into standard ZIP format, so you can extract any files from your backups using WinZIP, WinRAR, 7zip, etc.

The conditions for purchasing a full license (lifetime) are described on the page
https://exiland-backup.com/backup-purchase.html

An excellent programme from a good decent company. I downloaded it last time it appeared on GAOTD and have used it since successfully. I love it. It works well. A welcome change from a lot of crapware.
One warning. Either download it onto a disk-on-key (or other USB stick or external drive) or transfer it onto one after installing. Then save your back-ups onto another external drive. Otherwise you cannot back up drive C where the programme is installed. Beyond that, those who need the additional features will want the professional, but for most users the standard is sufficient.
If you do indeed have a problem, their support will help.
          Thank you Exiland and GAOTD

Laxative,
I have bought 4 HDD'a in the past year and the Drive makers supposedly provide a free CL:ONE software -
UP TO NOW, I still don't have a "CLONED" backup of my primary C drive.......I'm ticked at buoying the best HDD drives that I can't clone my primary drive to.......question - would this "clone" my Primary operating drive.......just in case of another WD/Seagate JUNKER FAILURE that they have NEVER REPLACED (within warranty)?
