Hmmm.... I clicked on $Buy Now button on their site, but that brought up a window that said that it would cost $14.95 for the following year. So this is for a 1-year license only????

Without a license you can recover Windows Key for free. All other keys or passwords are recovered partially if not activated.

I'm curious: does it truly "recover" one's password for Windows, or does it merely reset the password with a new one?

Bruce, nowhere does it say anything about the Windows Log In password, just passwords for popular programs and what's stored in the Windows Credential Manager.
The Windows log in password is in the SAM file, not the WCM, and it can't be recovered/reset while Windows is running, so I'd say no, it doesn't.
Plenty of free options that do though.

SpacemanSpiff, it's an understandable question. The screenshots even display "Recover data stored by Windows Credentials". It's not a HUGE leap to interpret that as Windows' login password!
