Needs a licensing method that actually WORKS! After finally getting it to work, the license disappears after a few days!!! Prompting the user to PAY for a LICENSE!?! Nice free Giveaway, shows the lack of good practices by this company! How long does the paid license last? or does it disappear too?

Damn another day wasted - several downloads, THEN the real discovery - WON'T work on XP though there are MILLIONS that DO use XP.........

SUGGESTION: IF GOTD is gonna provide programs that WON'T WORK on XP then show it in the beginning info......not after reading everything on the pages......or useless downloading, in many cases WAITING for hours to get some screwy Activating code, etc........just to TRY IT.......and then NOTHING.........
TWICE in TWO DAYS....and who knows how many other times recently.

Hi Alexa,

I decided to test 3 different e-mails, plus 1 temp e-mail, and none of them had an option to unsubscribe.

Just my 2 cents... the "Invalid email address" error seems to occur only when "Send me updates and special offers from ProbitSoftware" is unchecked. I think we should be allowed the option to uncheck and still be eligible to receive a license key.

The free multimedia players that I use on a daily basis, already have built in EQ settings, so for me, I will have to pass on today's giveaway, thanks you anyways.

The email received from Probit is called REGISTRATION INFORMATION and it brings an ORDER REFERENCE NUMBER that is totally irrelevant to the registrant but highly confusing. Take it out!
In the same email you are instructing how to enter the REGISTRATION KEY #1 but once one is at the window to register you call it LICENSE KEY.
Make up your mind and be consistent how you call the items that have to be handled by thousands of people from all walks of life and cultures.

Downloaded quickly and installed easily. Key sent right away. I used my Rogers email address. I left everything clicked on the form, in order to get the key. Control crap emails through my anti spam programs and Mailwasher Pro. Program IU is very simple, clean and uncluttered. I don't see a Settings button, which would be nice. Would also like to see Skins added. Will use for UTube and the like as my computer, Win 7 64 already has a builtin equalizer, as does Aimp, my default player for music. Nice program to try out, but wont buy as too many excellent FREE programs are out there.

I fully understand a limited time license for things that require an ongoing commitment from the manufacturer like antivirus programs. In the case of a static program such as this one however a "one year license" is not a "giveaway" It's shareware with a longer than usual trial period.

Thank you for the offer.

Reply   |   Comment by Doug  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+34)

The software being 'offered' since GOTD went 'new and improved' is basically limited time offers that the publishers 'allow' one to use, for the sole purpose of avoiding having to pay for very expensive software testing. So you get very short limited license time.

If you use a Gigabyte motherboard, it comes bundled with Realtek HD Audio Manager aka Sound Effect Manager.
You already paid for it when you bought the PC.
That has a 10 band equalizer, and 5 preset environment settings. You can add your own custom settings.
You can choose Pop, Club, Rock, Live, Treble, Vocal, Dance, Classical, Powerful, Bass, Soft, Party, Jazz sound effect.
You can control the Audio, Input/Ouput, Devices & Mixer, 3D sound, Microphone.
But if you use lousy speakers - e.g. those built into the LCD monitor, the sound cannot be good.
I use Altec Lansing separate speakers.
There are much better & more expensive choices.

ric, Asus and Asrock come with the same, in fact most motherboards today come with Realtek chips, even the OEMs. For those that do not have the software it can be downloaded directly from the Realtek website.

Does it work with Windows Media Center (as opposed to Windows Media Player)? I ask because Media Center has no tone control or equalizer built-in so you can't adjust the sound to make voices clearer on TV shows and movies.

It is available at the following link:-

starvinmarvin,
Welcome to weird world of Microsoft. You have a graphic equalizer and other goodies (Win7,8) in Windows media player. Windows media player controls the sound for Windows Media Center. OK, open windows media player, in the bottom right corner click the icon. This will open the "Now Playing" window. Right click in the middle of the window, go to enhancements and this will give you many options including graphic equalizer, then click on it. It has preset or select your own custom set up. Also, check out the SRS WOW effects. Go ahead and play with the TruBass and WOW Effect. This can add an additional "punch" to your music! Good luck and enjoy!

I will never trade my e-mail for a time limited trial, does not makes sense to me. Second, there is equalizer built in every MS operating system since Win 3.0, furthermore, if the developer wants to really give it away, will not put time stamp in it and finally. the equalizer is of no use if the audio you listen to is mono and the spectrum sent is 100-3000 Hertz, like most of the streaming movies and YouTube.

Seriously, the sound on your computer is only as good as the speakers you are using!

You use cheap computer speakers you are going to get cheap sound. If you want better sound invest in better speakers! Software like todays deal isn't going to help.

Reply   |   Comment by Mags  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+21)

Mags, I find it difficult to use general terms when discussing audio quality since everyone has their own definition of "Good", 'Better", "Acceptable", "Worse" and "Bad".
With that said, I agree with you completely about the importance of speaker quality. It's true that it is nearly impossible for anyone to get "good" sound out of "bad" speakers.

I haven't had the chance to try today's giveaway yet, but I have used programs like it to help those who don't have (and in many cases cannot afford) "good" speakers to improve (or maybe I should say "personalize") the sound from their PC, by adjusting the audio output to match the speakers' capabilities (or lack thereof).
The result isn't what I would describe as "Good" audio, but if it sounds "better" to owner/user, that's what counts for me.

I have also used audio apps like this one to help people with hearing impairments by shaping the frequency envelope to boost frequencies they have difficulty hearing, and/or reducing frequencies that "mask' other sounds or are uncomfortable for them. For many people in that situation, speaker quality is a less important factor than tailoring the audio for their needs.

So, for someone looking to get the best possible sound, having quality speakers is absolutely key. But if/when that approach isn't possible, when used correctly, programs like this can definitely help.

-Cheers!

PS. I have a simple set of 20-year-old Boston Acoustics 2.1 channel speakers that I love so much that I plan to live forever if i can't take them with me!

Reply   |   Comment by Luckystiff  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Mags,
People aren't necessarilylooking for good sound they are looking to clarify the sound and for that an equaliser can be very useful.

Reply   |   Comment by Seb  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Mags, agree fully but with good speakers and the today's deal you'll have a much better output than with good speakers and the in-built equalizer of your system. Besides, today is for free and you have a full year to try it out, now if at the license expiration you feel that you are better off with your system equalizer, save yourself the $20 bucks at renewal time.

If you are serious about music, you already have a good audio system that have an equalizer included for sure. There is no need to purchase an ubiquitous software like that. However if you really need one, just download a free and really "PRO" equalizer like Equalizer APO.

Nice app. Does the preamp control do some compression? When turning up preamp, volume starts "pumping" like it would when setting a slow attack rate on a compressor.

If double clicking 0db resets the slider, that would be a nice feature :)

In most of the cases they entered the Order Reference Number rather than the Registration Key.
In the email that you received, please look for “Registration Key #1”.

Installed with no problems. First time registration I tried with a gmail address which was rejected, second time I tried with a live.com.au email and unchecked the send me info box it was accepted but no email turned up after 30 minutes, third time I used live.com.au and left the check box ticked and the email arrived within a minute.

Entered the rego key and the program activated with no problems.

A simple UI with a decent number of presets, the ability to create a preset is good but when saving it would not accept a preset name that existed and popped an error message and closed the save box forcing me to go back to the dropdown and select "make preset" again, it would be more appropriate to ask if I wanted to overwrite the existing preset or leave the save box open until I'm finished saving.

The program definitely enhances listening, just needs a bit of polish on the user interaction side.

Thanks for a useful giveaway Probit.

Probit Software,
No offense, but e.q.'s are easily found and some for free. If you really want a product idea, how about a software that allows a person to play a bluetooth speaker and pc speakers simultaneously? I've only found one. Virtual Audio Cable. And it won't even save your settings. There's millions of people that have googled for a solution and nothing is available. A big sarcastic thank you to MS for dropping multiple outputs after XP. Just my 1 cents worth.

Hi everybody. :-)

Cons - Problems that should be fixed by the developer:

1) Developer's informations are missing from his web page
2) False positives before installation (although they are false, I don't want even to see them, like many other users):
- GridinSoft Antimalware 3.0.53 (my own pc): Malware.Win32.Gen.DA9D.sm!ff
- DrWeb (virustotal): Program.Unwanted.1244
- DrWebGateway (metadefender): Program.Unwanted.1244
- Invincea (virustotal): virus.win32.virut.ab
- ClamAV (jotti): PUA.Win.Packer.Upx-46
- ClamAV (virscan): PUA.Win.Packer.Upx-53
- Fprot (virscan): W32/Felix:IN:NSIS!Eldorado
3) False positives during installation, using gridinsoft antimalware 3.0.53: Adware.Downloader.vl!c detected for equalizer.dll and equalizerpro.exe
4) After I put all the needed informations in the web page to register the product and to receive the license key, and after I pressed register now, it appears a blank page.
I expected it said something like: "The license key has been sent to your email address (check also your spam fodler)".
5) I'm using a yahoo e-mail box and the email sent by the developer was in the spam folder... Why? This shouldn't happen.
6) After I put the license code in the program, the program wanted to check it through internet through tcp port 443 (I tried first with 80): this should be written somewhere in the installation webpage for firewall fanatics/enthusiasts. ;)
7) I'm not sure the GPLv2 license is respected, given that it says "This General Public License does not permit incorporating your program into proprietary programs." and given that there aren't sources codes (or object files?), original or modified, in the package/program folder, nor the GPLv2 license...
8) Imho, the price is too high. And it should exist the possibility to buy a lifetime license.
9) It would be nice to know what will happen when the license will expire: will it be impossible to open/use the software, hence it should be uninstalled? Or what?

Pro - Things I like:

1) Low size of the installer
2) Low size of program installation folder and files
3) It seems the program is developed for 64bit systems, given that it install itself in c:\program files instead of c:\program files (x86)
4) It works.
VLC has got its own equalizer, but this one could work when browsing on youtube or similar websites.

I'll keep it.

Thanks for this offer to the GAOTD team and to ProbitSoftware!

xilolee, we can’t do much about false positive alerts. I guess AV companies need to make a living in some way (all of our software are clean and we’ve being struggling with this rising phenomenon during the last years)

EqualizerPro has both 32 & 64 version. The installer will install the relevant one based on your OS.

I am glad you like the software. Looks like you already found one of its advantages.

Downloaded and installed but when I tried to get the licence key I got an error message saying my email address was invalid, funny that because everyone else is able to send and receive email from it. If what #5 Will Scally says is true and I suspect it is, then this is unacceptable and just plain wrong of Probit to try and impose their advertising on us. GOTD should not allow this to happen. Uninstalled and in future will avoid all Probit's software "free" or not, all very underhanded. It's not surprising that the likes of Karl abandoned GOTD the standard of the offerings and their deployment has sadly gone to Hell in a handcart. Thanks for nothing.

This may be the deal breaker between us and GAOTD.
Probit does not even provide any unsubscribe option after you register and try to unsubscribe from your email....

I hope you will like EqualizerPro. Your feedback is important to us.

will scally, I don’t believe you received any update/promotion material from us. If you registered to this giveaway, you probably got your license key via an email. These emails are being sent from our transaction system. If you will get an update/promotion email from us you will see the unsubscribe email. There is nothing new here. We are following the basic rules of anti-spam policy. There is no point to intimidate the users who would like to enjoy this giveaway opportunity.

Probit Software,
So you say, I decided to download again and this time ticked the box and installed using the reg number given ... But wait! Clicked the unsubscribe link in the email and nothing happened ... It's a dead link .... Bad marketing strategy and a very underhanded way of pushing your products. As for the program, nothing special, I have Realtek HD Audio Manager installed which is just as good if not better. Uninstalled and avoiding Probit software from now on and have blacklisted emails. When potential and existing customers say they do not want to receive newsletters, emails and product information you should respect their wishes and make it possible for them to opt out.

Adrian,
Yes, I understand that and don't have any problem with that, all of us are out to make money that's why I'm in business for myself. What I do take issue with is the fact that today we are being forced to agree to let Probit send us promotional materials if we want to try out this software and not being to unsubscribe via the link in the email. When I tried it it was a dead link ... Most likely a glitch but it does make you think that there might be something not quite right going on ... Sorry, but I'm a natural born skeptic and take my online privacy very seriously as everyone should.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Why bother for 1 year license, the software that comes with the soundcard driver namely "Dolby Digital Plus Advance Audio" does the same and more that is it does automatic volume gain which allows you to better hear quiet dialogues, beside there is a free software called "VB-Audio VoiceMeeter" which is far more sophisticated than this.
