Just in case there are some folks not fully acquainted with Ashampoo's marketing methods:
Generally speaking, Ashampoo provides -- at worst -- medium quality software, at best, at least one landmark software: Burning Studio. It's not a fly-by-night developer but one that's long established, and some of its partner products are also pretty darn good (Franz, Ben Vista, et al.)
The DVD slideshow market is well served, and has been, for years by Photodex and WnSoft's PicturestoExe, but badly served by almost every other publisher you can think of. Photodex's gold standard software is, however, almost prohibitively expensive, and not that easy to use, either, despite efforts in recent years to contend with that. PicturestoExe comes in two varieties, at $69 and $129, though as its name suggests, its ultimate raison d'etre may not necessarily be everyone's. And, again, there's quite a learning curve.
By contrast, Ashampoo's first foray into this sector was mediocre. This developer, however, has a track record of re investment and refinement, such that by Slideshow Studio HD3 this software was certainly producing an output comparable with the best -- and with an emphasis of intuitive control as well.
Ashampoo's technique of attracting new users has long been to offer -- as is the case today -- a stripped-down non-retail version of a product, in hope of up-selling the user to the full version. Much has been made on here in the past about Ashampoo 'spam', but really, that's a non-issue in this era of server-side filtering and anyway, Ashampoo has always consolidated its existing user base by offering them substantial discounts on both new and updated software: blocking all Ashampoo emails doesn't do your wallet any favours.
The situation, today, is that if you already own Slideshow HD3, then you can upgrade to Slideshow HD4 for $15.99. Thanks, however, to GOTD, you don't have to have spent anything on HD3. Instead, you can 'upgrade' from today's suck-it-and-see version to HD4 for exactly the same price: $15.99.
That accordingly makes Ashampoo Slideshow HD4 the cheapest available slideshow software around as well as the highest quality slideshow software around at that or any other price within touching distance of it.
Thanks, then, GOTD and Ashampoo. I'm an existing HD3 user and haven't yet decided whether or not I need to upgrade to HD4. For those who don't, however, have an easy-to-use, high-quality output slideshow program, today's 24-hour availability really is a rare, and genuine, opportunity: $15.99? Christmas has indeed come early.

drvajra, according to the detals link on their ASS 2017 page it can generate only VP9 .webm and Windows Media Video 9 .WMV video formats. No mention of max resolution but you can bet it won't support 4K or UHD.
The overview link on same page includes a HD logo implying some form of High Definition which could mean 720 or 1080 p or i.

TK, my oversight on the details link in the slideshow features it does state:
"Slideshows with resolutions up to 4K"
I don't think WMV9 supports 4k so if it does then VP9 .webm should handle it.
If 4k is supported they missed the opportunity to include a recognised UHD logo for both this and ASS HD 4... after all why call it only HD 4 when it's really UHD capable!

Why 2017? I want 2020.

Evgeny, you'll have to wait until 2019 to get the always free ASS 2020 cut down taster version of their commercial product ASS HD 4 in this case probably be ASS HD 7 or similar then. We don't get full giveaways from Ashampoo but lite versions they push out for free all the time with a year used instead of the version number in the product name.

Primitive and featureless program. There are plenty freeware that far exceed this.
Cannot even add a simple video of any format. Uninstalled.

Will this program male a Screensaver? I need a Screensaver not something I have to hit a icon to begin when I walk away from my laptop.
Thanks!

Does anyone know if you can place two images on one slide with this program? From their short trailer re the product, it doesn't show that.

Collette, I would deduce that if it doesn't anounce that advanced slideshow authoring feature it won't do it, especially considering the giveaway is their reduced function edition not their comercial edition!

Excellent slideshow program, that allows you to create videos of your photographs and add loads of different change overs as well as commentary and music. I got this via Ashraf's site last week. If you miss today's giveaway it's still available for a few more days via Falamid, or alternatively download it directly from Ashampoo and then request a free key.

WARNING don't download this ashampoo rubbish it is poo.
Once you have used their "free offer" for a while they start to cover the gui with a large popup ad that
you can't get rid of. In this way they make the "free offer" unusable.
Avoid all ashampoo offers.

Any program from Ashampoo is a must download for me. It is a German Company with a solid reputation for providing low cost application software. Much of the Software they sell goes on sale, so if you see something you like on their site, and have patience, you won't have to pay full sticker price.
I have been purchasing their programs for years and have never had a problem with how they work. This program installed as expected under windows 10 with an activate full program button taking me to Ashampoo's website and my account sign-in there. Registered to full version without a problem.
Initially I was surprised to see only a very few themes for slideshow projects, but then saw you can click in the program to download about a dozen more (birthday, wedding , etc.) You can sync your slide show to music, time or freestyle it. Pictures are easy to add and each one can have anyone of about 75 different transition effects or a set of "Ken Burns" effects.
Bottom line is this is a good little program for people looking to make a quick, non-complicated slideshow that look really good. There is a better version and an upgrade path available for Giveaway users, but many will be satisfied with just this version. And, if you register on their site, they will keep a download and serial number library for you to access all of your purchased (and free) Ashampoo Software.
The program installation does put a desktop link to Ashampoo deals (easily deleted, but you might want to see what is on sale !) Ashampoo does send sale news notices to you through all of its programs, but you can turn this "feature " off with one click.

I like Ashampoo software and have quite a few of their programs. I have Slideshow Studio HD2 which was installed in December 2011. This offering is described as PART of HD4. Am I better to stick with HD2, or load this partial HD4? What would I gain or lose?

Clive,
I like Ashampoo products as well and have a couple installed. As far as this being part of HD4 is concerned, it's probably just a limited version of HD4 with constant prompts to to upgrade to the full version.
This program is on the Ashampoo site as freeware and can be downloaded anytime, and you can see the difference, by clicking the details tab of each product.

Clive,
If I were you, I would install this software and play with it in order to see if I like it better. Chances are you may decide to keep both of these programs.
Best regards,

Jake,
quite so, this one here today is the freeware version.
Download from Ashampoo does just as well, key immediately displayed upon log-in into mandatory account. Copy and paste, activate Studio 2017 and off you go. Further templates/presets available for download. As far as most people are concerned HD quality in wmv or webm formats should do.Conversion is, though basically undesirable, certainly no problem with converter software.
The software presents itself in a clean flat design, helpfile included.
I am basically not a true slideshow lover, but as adding text, audio, shapes, transitations seems no problem making quite an appealing show is technically possible.
In my case I would always limit myself to no more than 2 fancy transitions, at beginning and at end and keep the rest to basic blending over, also known as alpha-blending.
For a genuine freeware surely not bad. As for that famed Ken Burns effect I must confess I followed the helpfile but either my understanding was limited or the software does not really offer too much in this particular aspect. The effect I was to get was no more than a small zoom effect and pan effect. I was certainly expecting something more spectacular.

It installed but would not run in XP and so it was installed in Windows 7.
On opening it asked for image files and it happily accepted JPG files.
The bit that really interest me is the control of the audio file and it does look like the length of time the image is shown can be tied to an audio file. Did have a few problems with to how it ties to the transition but that is probably me as I'm not used to working in Windows 7.
Tried adding text and the only thing I could see was that it was just placed over the image, in my opinion a scrolling box under would have been much better.
When I tried to make a window video file it refused saying it was in use by another program. No idea why this happened it could be something I have done.
The ability to tie and image to an audio file gives it great potential and when I can face working in Windows 7 again will have another go at it.
