Epubor's VitalSource Downloader does NOT give you free books. Rather, you have to buy (or rent?) your book from VitalSource, and when you do, this program will allow you to convert the ViltalSource VBK file (which is protected by DRM) into an un-protected PDF or epub format document to your computer. I have not tested it so cannot say how well it works.

Apparently, Epubor VitalSource Downloader frees-up ( "removes DRM from ) copies of digital textbooks that you BUY from Vitalsource.

My steps:

-- After installation of Epubor VitalSource Downloader, create a VitalSource[.]com account, either within Epubor VitalSource Downloader. or using your own browser.

-- Then browse to VitalSource[.]com in your own browser, sign in, and search for, and select, and BUY a book.

-- You will see that VitalSource is not a library, but VitalSource is a BOOK STORE, an educational academic book store.

-- So, BUY something, first.

-- Then open Epubor VitalSource Downloader, and download your own private full-use copy.

-- Then un-buy the book at VitalSource if you can or care to.

Here's an example of an advantage that Epubor VitalSource Downloader promises me:

I see a popular textbook that claims to sell for $74 retail hard copy.

VitalSource offers a digital edition for $17 rent for 6 months ( supposedly a school semester ).

It seemed to install all right when I fed it my legit email addy, it said it wouldn't accept it. Beats me why. Nobody else has had any issues with my gmail address.

Uninstalled and disappointed.

Description is confusing. I was wondering if this was a download app or a source of free books and if so what kind of books? So I gave it a go and it appears to install fine
A bit of plagiarism here.
I'm having the same trouble as Andy! I don't have any books so I clicked on Browse Store and up came a a blank screen, with just Settings and About. I too have been waiting for something to happen!
Waiting now for 20mins ongoing
So if anyone knows? Do I get free books? What is stopping the browser. Is it my firewall? Is it mass access to server by others? Is it using Opera internet search engine. Is it I need yo pay to get actual books? Any other suggestions?

Will try once more tomorrow

The clue is the word "VitalSource." Google that and you'll find it's a place to buy or rent textbooks in digital format.
If you're not a student having to buy expensive textbooks, this software is irrelevant and useless.

I have a wonderful ebook reader, free and which I got from GAOTD, called ICECREAM. One of their best giveaways but I believe free copies are available on site. Works well on XP. And books I get from FEEDBOOKS, some are free some not, downloadable as epub, kindle or PDF, icecream reads epub and pdf. A fantastic programme, does not need 64-bit.

Thanks for the heads-up on two useful alternative resources,

-- thousands of free public domain ebooks at FeedBooks[.]com, many in other than English, plus other ebooks to purchase, many around a dollar,

-- IcecreamApps[.]com free Ebook Reader, like
---- Amazon's free Kindle for PC,
---- Adobe's free Digital Editions,
---- Calibre's free Ebook reader,
... but unlike Kindle, Icecream Ebook Reader ( and the others ) leaves an ebook where it is on the hard drive, and does not automatically move or copy it to a new "library" of the program's own.

I think today's GOTD offering of Epubor VitalSource Downloader is off-putting because even though the offering has a free 1-year function, it actually does not do anything productive unless you actually first buy some books from VitalSource.

Thanks for at least helping us get something useful and free today.

Michael, If you have bought books or borrowed books from Vitalsource, this software will show your Vitalsource bookshelf books. But if you haven't bought any books, even if you log in with your account, nothing will be shown in your library.

After I installed, it did not run the software and it created a shortcut on my desktop.

When I double-clicked on the shortcut, nothing happens.

Sorry for inconvenience, it takes time to get the software started because it need to access Vitalsource bookshelf server (sometimes may be a little slow). So please be patient to wait the vitalsource bookshelf log in accessing and loading completely.
