From their website: "Your private information is fully protected - the main login password is encrypted by the irreversible SHA algorithm, while the password information itself is encrypted by 256-bit AES algorithm."

Um, a bit more information might be needed here.

SHA1 is now pretty broken and the best practice for storing a master password is a salted hash using something like bcrypt, scrypt, or argon 2. I don't have a problem with the AES 256.

Dave, the time limit is probably from the authors website as it contains mention of a need to renew. Though it doesn't say it here, I too am wondering if this program quits after a period of time, or if it continues to have full functionality for this version.

Dave, in the "readme.txt" after you download it.

    Dave,
In the readme file, it says (NB: 1-year free updates license.)
It doesn't mention that the key expires, only that you can continue to download updates to this program for 1 year. Can we get a clarification on this?

Where the passwords are stored- locally (on the device), or on somebody's server?

What means 1-year free updates license? What happens after that? Is the Pro license still good? Are my passwords still safe?
I'd like a quick answer from Efficient Software, so I'll know whether to install your offer, or ignore it (and I'd bet I'm not alone).

Pet, where did you find this info- about 1 year updates?

Reply   |   Comment by Bai Hui  –  11 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Pet, NB: 1-year free updates license. It's mean no more new versions for free after 1 year. So you will receive updates next 365 days. After you can still use it but you won't be able to receive a new version for free. So no more security fixes.

    Pet,
Thank you for asking this question. I'm interested in this program, but I won't be downloading it or trying it out until we get an answer from Efficient Software.

Bai Hui, if you look at the programs About panel on all "Efficient" branded programs state the purchase date and the free updates valid to date. And all of their software I have continue to function long after the free update period expires. Last giveaway said it had 1 years free updates BUT that clock started ticking from the license generation date which was several months before the giveaway date so there was not really a whole year of free updates remaining. I've not installed todays but I'd expect the free 1 year updates to have started significantly before the giveaway date so one should bear that in mind when checking for updates in an effort to get the latest free update just in case you miscalculate.
