If you want to complain, be specific. Comments like "This is junk." or "This sucks." or "This is a pile of s**t." are of no help to anyone. Be specific - What is it about the program you don't like? What aspect of it didn't work (or didn't work as well as it should have done)? What doesn't it do that you would like it to do?
Software developers value those sorts of comments as it help them assess upgrades/improvements for future versions.
So there's nothing wrong with complaining, as long as it's constructive.
And I agree with #118 - there's an awful lot of software out there for an awful lot of functions. Bearing in mind that GOTD offer only one program per day, it's impossible to keep everyone happy all of the time. Over time, GOTD offers a good cross-section which means that different people are kept happy at different times, depending on their tastes and needs.
If you're in the habit of downloading something just because it's free, you're often going to be disappointed because it doesn't meet your requirements (unless being free is your only requirement).
If you keep your eyes open and only download the programs that sound like they would be of use, you won't have as much cause for complaint.

BTW, downloaded and installed this program meaning to use it a bit later, then a day or two later had to rollback my computer because of some fault (not caused by the installation of this program, I hope), and so lost the program. Never had a chance to evaluate it.

I love this site, not just for the give away of the day, but the chuckles provided by the posts regarding the software provided. Today's favorite chuckle was provided by #42 - Bubba, but it was a close tie with #26 - Markito's comments on free burgers, love the analogy.

As a retired statistics instructor, I find it interesting how through a small sampling of the population you can assess the whole population (i.e., most comments fit into the categories of complainers, anti-complainers, jack-rabbits, anti-firsties, helpers, anti-helpers, boasters/know-it-alls, anti-boasters, and a host of other labels). The comments can also be categorized into the number of people positive responses vs. the anti-people responses. The comment side of GAOTD is a unique sampling of the population and it's attitude towards others in an environment that is free of consequence, making the sampling even more fascinating in nature.

One would be silly to think that EVERY offering would be what they wanted or that it would ALWAYS suit their needs (present or future). The GOATD offerings are a nice sampling of what is available and I enjoy the and appreciate their, along with the software publishers, efforts. Thank you for the Give Away of the Day, but also thank you for the chuckles and entertainment provided in the forum!!!

To John,
Yea I can't get it working either although got it to register. I am getting the same problem. It also caused my keyboard to screw up a lot, evesince I manually tried to create macros. Like opening up explorer when hitting 'e', gave it a restart it was back to normal.
I guess it doesn't work with Vista :( . I was really looking for something like this.

Ok I don't know if somebody mentioned this way, but here it is:
After installing the software (trial version)
1. Open the zc.reg in notepad
2. Close it, will prompt you to register
3. Enter the Name=Giveawayoftheday & Code that is in the zc file.

And u should be registered. I am running Vista so I couldn't do it the other way. But this seemed to work it shows registered to Giveawayoftheday.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info 32.............but if this program is such an aggravation to register which I tried several times, then I do not believe it will be a pleasure to use - so I deleted it.

The program developer shoud take this into consideration and make it easy like other programs available here.

I look at it this way... GAOTD is like a buffet. You don't have to like everything that's on the table, but you can pick and choose what you want. They just happen to offer a little bit for everybody. I think that's great. I don't have to download everything they offer, but what I do, I can't beat the price. Keep up the good work. BTW... I happen to like that last screen saver they offered.

#32, in XP, I used, , and copied it that way and it worked. Without #8's instructions, I might not have had it work. Thanks. Whoever designed this install, improve it, please so you don't have to be a software engineer to get the program.

I will try the program later. It looks useful to me.

Agree with #41 PT--I installed as required, copied the zc.reg file in the appropriate folder and checked the about tab and it shows "registered to giveaway of the day". I changed the date on my computer to April 26, 2007 and then pressed Macro Editor and got this message: “Trial time of Easy Macro Recorder is over”.

I uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result.

It appears that this is a 15 day trial on my computer. I'd love to get this program (FOR FREE) if possible.

I feel I must say something about the whiners that only know how to complain constantly on a regular basis.

Its like this my view is that whatever they have here for download that maybe a great application for some but for others its useless for the people who don't like some applications what GOTD offer well simply DON'T DOWNLOAD IT wait till the next day maybe something useful will be up here that you will like and cherish.

Take me for example If theres something on here I won't have use for then I don't download it its simple really. And Ill wait till the next day to see if theres something of use to me.

Complaining will not help whatever the current download is its not going to change all of a sudden because certain people say that it sucks or its not even worthy of being free. Keep in mind these applications/programs are a FREE giveaway then the next day if you change your mind about a certain product on here you will end up having to pay for it or get it some other means of way.

Remember: all of the applications/games on this site are FREE for one day a year its called TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT simply put.

And about the current application for todays giveaway I won't have use for this ether not because it sucks infact its prob a great program but I simply don't want it nor want to download it and just wait another day till I find something of use.

Thank you for your time.

I tried it, but it didn't work across different windows applications.
I started a macro, pressed -M (to minimize all windows), then -R (to get a "run" window), typed "notepad" and pressed enter, typed a word into notepad, did a -F-A and saved the test file to the desktop, then stopped the macro recording. I deleted the temporary .txt file, and played the macro back, but it opened up a minimized instance of Word and started typing my keystrokes into a paper I'm supposed to be writing. It's probably fine for stuff within a single application, but I haven't tested it for that.

#93 - Jesse B, don't you mean you have programs for keystrokes, but not for mouse movements/clicks?

If so, I agree (although I can't say for sure that RoboTask & X-start don't do that).

As per BladedThoth's review, I think this will be useful for simple tasks, which is all I need.

This just in from the "Ignorance Is Not Bliss" Department:

#28 said, "You can’t tell people that they can’t complain just because something is free. If someone gave me a “free” punch in the arm, I would not say, “well, I guess I can’t complain because it was free!” People have a right to their opinion."

Well, they sure do have a right to their opinion. But no software developer came over to your house and installed the software on your computer. You came to THEIR house (web site), and you downloaded THEIR software for free--something that otherwise earns them a living.

I think just to punish the ungrateful morons that linger here, that GOTD should release nothing but screensavers for the next 6 months, and each should just be a large photo of a software developer's backside.

Smart folks ignore the comments and just try the software--after all, it's completely free.

This is really quite nice - very simple and depending on what I'm doing, there are a bunch of internet sites I log into or programs I start up every time I use the computer. It may be basic but it's cool for n00bs with little or no IT mastery - there are lots of possibilities. I'm sure the tech heads have much fancier toys but I think I'll use this a lot.

Thanks

#21 If you looked for freeware that does this, I am surprised you haven’t found AutoHotKey. The link is to download.com, #26! And it’s far from crappy. It’s open source, and could be as powerful or as user-friendly as you want. It has a utility to record key strokes and mouse clicks for novice users, but also uses a relatively simple scripting language that you can use to edit your recorded macro or even make simple programs with. It also makes .exe files, so you can record a macro, send it to a friend, who will not need the software to open it!

Not a bad little app. I have a calendar / scheduler that doesn't have an ' open at startup ' feature and this opens it on boot-up for me. If you put the cz.reg file in the ' User apps folder ' as instructed, the reg is flawless.

Would I pay $30 for this app? >No. $10-15? >Yes. This is a good little app as stated and I can see lots of potential for it's use. For as often as I think the average person will use this, $30 will keep it in the background and eventually fade away like so many others have. Not to take away from the developers / programmers, for they've done a fine job. IMHO I just don't see the value here at the asking price for the average Joe!

Note to developers; You get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar! $10-15 is a lot easier for the average Joe to cough up and justify than $30 at this level of utility that will only be used occasionally.

Thanks GOTD for the service. It's a nice way to try B4 you buy without the time pressure of trial periods. Very few apps allow you proper assessment time to evaluate ones investment. Many times I've been disappointed in the past over an investment, only to find it isn't all you thought it was to be, or advertised. I think a lot of software developers know they have less-than-expected products and use trials to push buyers into purchasing a sub-grade offering. Thanks again GOTD for your efforts here! Much appreciated!

Regards,
Vega1

Am I understanding this program? ... if I had the info sent to a hidden folder for when the kids are using the pc in the living room & I'm busy making dinner in the kitchen, then later, after they go to bed, I can check the folder to see if my darlings has stayed in the "safe places"? or am I totally in the dark about this one?
Just checking other uses ... (actually they would be my great-grandkids)

Maybe what you can't get looks more attractive than what is offered free for the day - I look at the previous pages and see lots of giveaways I would like to have but can't get now. Maybe the one offered today would look like something I would like to have tomorrow so I am downloading it now - my first download from the site.

Here's a use for a macro recorder that you may not have thought of: Suppose you have a program that you use a lot, but it is missing some capability that you REALLY want. If you can accomplish the capability through a sequence of keyboard and/or mouse operations, then you can record a macro with the sequence of operations. When you need the capability, just run the macro.

this registration procedure does work but it took me 3 trys until i saw that the file size did not match the one that came with the program even though I shut off the software before copying it. wasn't until I used power desk to send the file to the correct directory and not explorer that it worked. great time saver if you repeat the same keystrokes
