@ #101 "Screensavers waste energy. We’d probably be a lot less dependent on the middle east’s oil if all you jokers didn’t have your screensavers running." - That was by far the most ignorant comment posted in this thread. While screensavers do waste energy they do save monitors. How do they cause an increase in the need for oil. Would someone please tell Mr. Gore that "monitor landfills" are also a bad thing. Thank You...

I have downloaded and activated it before the time expired but it is telling me I am on a 30 day trial and to please purchase it. I downloaded & activated it before I downloaded & activated Avalon game on game giveaway of the day and I am able to use Avalon. Did I do something wrong or is anyone else getting this message?

Variety is the spice of life. I really like all the screensavers. This one is spice! Thank you.
Hey 112, My PC and monitor are not in charge! It is what I want, not what they want or need. My graphics card does not work hard at all on any of the screensavers provided here. It does not run hot either because I have provided it with it's very own cooler. I have never worn out any PC or monitor by usage. (a power supply module occasionally but never a graphics card or monitor) Your assumptions are just not my experiences. grin

I like it. I would not call it fantastic or anything, nor would I pay $17 for it to be truthful, but as a give away it is really nice and definitely superior to the other screensavers given away lately. I don't say make a regular habit of it, but nice screensavers like this one offered every now and again would be really enjoyable for me.

Screen savers don't have to be run as screen savers--they can be run standalone as relaxing animations. My screen saver is blank, then my monitor turns off. CRT's do burn-in long-term static images. LCD's can build up a charge across liquid-crystal cells with long-term static images, resulting in image retention. Unlike a CRT, this "damage" isn't permanent. Using a computer doesn't shorten its life, and my computer's fans don't come on when running screen savers. Here are some Fantastic Ocean 3D images captured from my high-resolution desktop (images Copyright Rixane Interactive). The bluest scheme shows a lack of anti-aliasing, but the others look OK. Internet Explorer will scale these down to your window size, but you can zoom them to actual size and scroll around.

What comes next? Another screensaver tomorrow, followed by an FTP client, a couple of audio rippers/MP3 converters and a PDF viewer.
I’ll take a week away I think. Running out of ideas GOTD?

This is directed to those complaining about the give away. I was raised that if you were given something even if you didn't like it you said thank you and didn't complain. Giveaway of the day didn't set the price, the company who made the software did, but they did get it for you free. Back in the 70's when Fortran and Colbalt was used a program cost $20,000 minimum. You need to thank them and not complain. I understand times have changed but use common courtesy please and be thankful. I know this old hillbilly is.

Modern monitors don't have screens that need saving. By using screensavers that are graphics intensive means your graphics card is also working hard therefore reducing its life and using considerable energy, hence the fans on the average graphics card to keep them cool due to the amount of watts they use. Add to that the fact your monitor is on and your computer is working away means their life span is also reduced. Also the amount of energy consumed is considerable.

Do yourself and the planet a favour and turn off the system when not in use.

Screensavers are just eye candy!!

Thanks for great software. Downloaded and used lots. I am glad that I dont like everything you offer. If I did I wouldnt have time for real life or to actually use what I downloaded.
Now about screensavers. The best and most fun screensaver was so many years ago Johnny Castaway. It was simple and changing with seasons, story of a guy marrooned on an island. He gets to meet a mermaid amongst his troubles. I also remember a yacht with revelers passing by. (Sorry it was back in Win3.1 days) If you Google it it should give you system requirements.
I beleive I heard somewhere that the realy flat (plasma) monitors do need screensavers as they run hotter.
Also some free screensaver websites come with trojans, spyware and viruses. Especially the once that advertise on TV.

I didn't download, enough info about the graphics card was enough to put me off, not that interested in screensavers anyway but I have found some very useful programs on this site that I have downloaded.

I agree with #97, El Fabuloso, with a name like that it tells me that you think that you are just El Fabulous and your whinging was no better than the comments you whinged about, why don't you get a life. I only look and see if what is on offer has any use to me, if it does then I download it, if it doesn't then I check back the next day, SIMPLE ISN'T IT and 9 times out of 10 I don't read the comments because you have to sift through a mountain of crap to find out anything about the program, better things to do with my time, please stick to the program for the benefit of others and not your own glory.

And #86, Teri, I would most certainly complain about being hung. New rope or old.

I think this screensaver's graphics are better than usual, but the screensaver itself is rather dull. Tranquil and beautiful, sure, but it would have been nice to have something more happen than a glide over the water. Some fish or birds perhaps?

Thanks for the chance to try this one out, GaotD!

I was looking at it after I installed it and the next thing I knew I was waking up 1 1/2 hours later in my chair..............oh my aching back..lol Its that relaxing. Good job on this site and good luck with it. Too bad people come here and complain so bitterly about things. Afterall, if you dont like something, its not like you spent the money on it , is it? So uninstall it.......anyway, ty again, all the best Jill

Rixane Interactive, are u insane? $18 for a screen saver? forget saving your screen, save your money instead.

Note to El Fabuloso. After your paragraphs of ranting, you failed to make any comments on the product yourself. making it a waste of time, as we hear the same things everyday from everyone anyway.
Reading the haters here is the most entertaining part of this site!

OK, I did read the comments, and now I feel kinda like a whiner, but not that much. Here's why. The ocean is a fascinating place for me, and its surface never fails to control my gaze. But this just wasn't... it. When someone says it's like paragliding several feet above the waves, I would expect to see some scary-butt detail at max resolution. Unfortunately the best res (at 1280x1024) I can get looks like I'm a quarter mile up at least.

I like what this group is doing, and I will be happy to plunk down real cash money.... when they deliver on under-thirty (At the MOST) rendering of ocean movement in this package.

But it is a start! Don't know anyone else with the balls to try and replicate ocean currents!

So, I like the effort, but I want more and will pay for it. Hope the lads and lassies working on this team will follow up.

Cheers!

Johnny

Hi GOTD team! ;)

I was about to install it when I thought I'd read the other comments first. I'm afraid the CPU usage comments by #79 and #87 has dissuaded me from bothering.

In these current times when we're constantly scanning for viruses, malware and adware (I use Spybot and Adaware every few days, as well as McAfee on a permanent basis - I'm a download junkie ;) I'd prefer not to have the added problem of orphaned files in my registry. So no installation for me this time.

However, I do appreciate all the effort it must take to put a site like this together and giving us the opportunity to try out all the different software. Thank you so much GOTD! ;)

One question: Are there no game giveaways on a Sunday?

It never ceases to amaze me how petty people can be. If you dont like screensavers then come back tomorrow. Some people think they're cool. I don't install every free thing offered either. Thank you for this website. It has, in fact, given me opportunity to try programs that I have actually purchased later for a different machine. I think this screensaver is kinda cool and it keeps my cat entertained while I'm away. My computer is buff enough to not even notice it running.

Downloaded and tried it out (as I feel *everyone* should before their "reviews" of these daily software giveaways); found this SS to be quite a resource hog, especially when I chose the option to use the highest quality graphics. Wasn't fond of the sound effects, either. Yes, I know those are optional so that wouldn't have been an issue for me. Between 1 - 10, I'd give it a 4 1/2. Not a keeper for me, but thanks anyway.

I first downloaded their free Light version. I was happy that it ran with a relative low CPU usage, but as it had advertisement I got rid of it and installed the full version offered here for free today. It's beautiful I admit. However, this version consumes 100% CPU on my system, even with music off and details set to minimum. So away it goes, I don't need savers which burn my machine and/or cripple my running processes.

After uninstalling, turns out that this application left some garbage behind it, including 6 files in my Windows dir and numerous registry keys. This I really hate. I will not stand for my system being raped by lazy programmers. Go back and learn some proper coding!

To those who've posted saying screensavers aren't technically necessary any longer, we thank you for your brilliant sharing of information...not. Most people know that screensavers are simply a novel carryover from the past, and are merely decorative. And that's perfectly o.k., since a lot of people enjoy them regardless. Just like your desktop wallpaper. You know you don't really need that, right? Why don't you get rid of your desktop wallpaper and just have a black screen then (you know, like a plain dos window)? Then you can pretend your are looking into a window to your (ungrateful) soul.

Frankly I'm amazed at the number of complete morons who even bother posting to complain about whatever TYPE of software is given away for FREE here. Do you think anyone even cares about your lame complaint that you don't always get what you demand for free? No, most of us are too busy appreciating what we do get here.

If you don't like what is given away for FREE here, why don't you go to the store and PAY for some software then? Otherwise, you are like the beggar who complains that people don't put enough change in their cup.
