Dear GOTD users,
please note that we are aware of the problem and have reported it to the developer.

The registration process is performed on the developer's side and we can't influence it anyway and correct it quickly. Please note that every promo on our site get's tested and there were no problems with obtaining the email or registering it, otherwise it won't appear here today. But unfortunately, things may go wrong anytime during the promo and sometimes this really happens.

As we can see, there are much less complaints than the downloads, so this means that the problem
is not massive, but selective. Maybe it is caused by the high server load or maybe is connected with some email providers that don't let the reg letters in. So please check your spam folders or try to use another email address
as an alternative.

Also, please don't forget that there are different time zones and the developer is not fixing the problem because he doesn't care, but simply because the day is over and there is nobody left in the office. All these things might sound simple, but many users seem to forget about them often. Just remember that this is not done intentionally and the developer will gladly fix everything by answering emails or prolonging the promo.

Hope for your understanding and a little patience, as we work for you every day during the last 10 years! I really hope that GOTD project deserves little loyalty from it's visitors.

Helen, I am sorry but I have to disagree with you. Last night, in Australia, I tried registering with three different email addresses on the DVDFab website. No replies were sent to any of these three addresses. Today, some 14 hours later, I thought I'd give it another try. To add insult to injury, the DVDFab website will now not accept any of my three email addresses, saying: "Submission Failed. Please do not submit the email repeatedly. Therefore, it seems for this giveaway, that DVDFab have given up on YOUR subscribers! What is even more insulting is that they have the audacity to give this DVDFab giveaway a Santa Claus theme. You may wish to remind them that Santa Claus actually delivers his gifts and does not disappoint his clients all over the world.

Phil, This giveaway was for the DVD Ripper only. Not sure what language your computer is, but is that what the second option is in that list? If so, it appears it should be activated for about 11 and 1/2 months.

Toby, The second option on the list (DVD σε κινητό, "Greek"), it means DVD to mobile phone.
Nothing special, so its kind of useless to me.

I promptly received the email, which contained a very generic sounding licence code and email address. Using it, I successfully registered the program, and was informed that "I" have used 1082 of 10000 authorizations.

I'm not sure if this means that only 1082 people have succeeded in registering, or they fixed their mistake with a work-around generic key which has been used this many times.

I don't ever need to shrink DVDs to a smaller size.
Is my understanding of the expression 'Ripper' correct - Shrinks a DVD to a smaller size, to the format of your choosing ?
Thus this giveaway cannot be used to make a full size (thus full quality) copy to a DVD Folder / or to an ISO ?

Reply   |   Comment by Rob Crombie  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Rob Crombie, if dvd is ripped to VOB, it to my knowledge is the exact copy of the dvd, minus the removed copy protections.

Reply   |   Comment by Yuri Member  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Yuri Member,
These are the outputs shown on the Ripper page -
2D Videos:H.265, MP4.4K, MKV.4K, MPEG-4, MP4 Passthrough, MKV Passthrough, MP4, FLV, MKV, AVI, WMV, M2TS, TS, etc.
When they say 'TS' are they referring to VOB (full size with no shrink)

Reply   |   Comment by Rob Crombie  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Rob Crombie, good question. So far I have been using the free DVDFab, which doesn't have the ripper option enabled. TS refers to Transport Stream, which is often used in recording live broadcasts. The video on a dvd are in VOB files.

Rob Crombie, DVDFab is a copier, not a ripper (that you correctly defined as software that can change the format of the original). As a copier DVDFab makes a full size, full quality duplicate of the original. In DVDFab you have to option of copying the original in full size - that usually requires a dual-layer DVD - or to a compressed (lower quality) size that can be burning onto a standard DVD. HTH

Reply   |   Comment by shegeek72  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Rob Crombie, I suspect it can, however I would use DVDShrink 3.2 (freeware) for this. Select the "No Compression" option, FOR THE FULL DISK (root of DVD).

It has been many hours since I submitted two different requests (2 different e-mail address services) about an hour apart, got the confirmation page each time, and still no received e-mail (nor in "Spam"/junk folders).

Got to admit, today's developer was not quite ready for prime time. Perhaps it's due to the winter holidays?...

Reply   |   Comment by HMarx  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

HMarx,

As others stated, trying to re-submit an e-mail address after waiting for hours (about 14 hours so far) results in a warning to not do that.

So, with less than 2 hours to go I decided to try a 3rd e-mail address (a 2nd Yahoo! mail address) and -- voila! -- I got my e-mail instantly. Apparently the 1st Yahoo! address (and the one at another e-mail service provider) disappeared into some sort of "limbo" earlier today.

Anyway, DVDFab DVD Ripper was activated without incident. As it is so very late now, I do not have any time to test it out...

Thanks (finally!) DVDFab & GOTD for this offer; but I wish the process had proceeded a lot snappier.

DVDFAB 11 LICENSES FROM OTHER GIVEAWAY SITES ARE NOW GONE!

I just installed and activated DVDFab Ripper 11. Unfortunately this activation deactivated my other DVDFab software module from a different giveaway. All licenses were now updated to the GOTD license for a year but my other module was a lifetime license. Small loss for me but other people might rely on the other modules.

Also just realized that you need an account with DVDFab? Is that right? I'm getting tired of all these accounts to keep track of!! Need to know if not having an account with them matters in this case or not. Plus improvements here could be not just giving away 1 year licenses as I use programs like this all year long, plus long past the year license giveaway. Thanks

Also, most web browsers come with log-in managers that will offer to save your log-in credentials (email and password), then offer to fill in the log-in form when you return to the website. The data is encrypted.

Agreed. A password manager is recommended for everyone. I use the mentioned KeePass free.

I was activation 415 out of 10000. The Download and activation was very slow, but it all worked the first time for me (Win7/64). Took me a while to find the "About" menu. It's under "Common Settings" which is the next to the minimize button. You have to hover to see the text, but it looks like the "Pause" button |> but pointing downwards. Thought it was an "Eject" button. Anyway, choose "Authorize", not "About".

Dave O,

Thanks for this. I never would have found it otherwise. And their community registration is bizarre:

"This computer has been authorized successfully!
You have used 666 out of 10000 of your authorizations.
You can deauthorize this computer anytime, or reset all computer authorizations on DVDFab Member Center."

Seriously?????

BTW, NatGeo is using a new copy protection scheme that does things like crash VLC and DVDShrink and other software. I doubt this will fare any better with those DVDs.

I hope It works sometime today because I love their products for DVD. I bought DVD Copy lifetime license, and that was the best copy program I have ever tried and I have tried quite a few. Good luck to us all. Because I already own DVD Copy it won't let me put in the new password for the ripper.

Not wanting to parrot other posters here, but as with most others, after installation and visiting website in the Readme.txt file, I received the email from DVDFab with the email address and password to activate the program. Activation failed telling me that either the email address or the password was incorrect (I used "copy and paste" to enter the data, so it wasn't a type issue). Tried this twice with same result. Not the first time I've seen a problem with them.

I would like to rip the best parts of a commercial movie that I own on DVD (formatted for the U.S.A.) so that I can make a "highlights reel," and watch it instead of the entire movie. However, I understand that DRM schemes will prevent me from doing this. Will DVDFab DVD Ripper 11.0.0.10 allow me to do so despite DRM? I run various operating systems (Windows 7 (64 bit), Windows Vista (32-bit), and Windows XP (32-bit)) on my computers.

Nemo, You may have to convert the files to a format that your video editor recognizes.

i have know dvdfab. the program is good at is job. if you do not want to fool around with handbrake and old dvd keys.(works about 85%) of the time. or just use as a back up program, to give you options. it is a safe company with a good rep. remember to disable auto update in settings. if your not happy so what... uninstall and move along.

DVDFab is the gold standard of DVD copying. While most other DVD copying software chokes on some DVDs, produces less than optimal outputs, etc I've never found a DVD that DVDFab couldn't handle. If this is something you're interested in I recommend downloading and installing it, then watching for when a lifetime license is available for purchase.
