Works well, even if it dose try to push it's other IObit products on you.. The Uninstaller they have is good to have as well.. But I use other programs for Virus scanning and system maintenance..

States, "Please note: the license is provided for 6 months". Seems like it's not worth the trouble unless you just want to use it for 6-months then uninstall or pay for a new update. Although program settings are checked to do a restore point (it didn't seem to as it started scan rather quickly), I would do a restore point before even installing the "free" software. It does have the box checked to provide drivers that pass Microsoft WHQL tests. Just make sure all settings are checked/uncheck that you want before using. My activation went smoothly. Only needed to click the Enter License in the lower right-hand corner and paste the key in.

[ Ron Payne ],

All IObit programs work in FREE mode with most features after the PRO features expire.

No need to uninstall, just keep using it and updating it.

Peter Blaise, I know they keep working. I was making a point about offering something free described as "Pro" version then saying the "free" pro version can only be used for 6 months. I think you missed the point I was trying to make. Been using these products for years as well as being a subscriber of GAOTD for a decade or more. But, thanks for taking the time to read and reply. A rare thing usually.

Ron Payne,

>"Although program settings are checked to do a restore point (it didn't seem to as it started scan rather quickly)"

The DriverBooster scan does start quickly because it does not do a Restore Point until AFTER you select the drivers you wish to update. Only those you wish to update will be added to the Restore data automatically. DriverBooster creates the Restore Point, and then updates the drivers in one step.

I think their idea is to quickly show how many drivers need updating as soon as possible. If we had to wait for a Restore Point to take place first, and then not even need it (no drivers need updating), we might have given up on the program already.

I did not install this because I already have the paid version installed. When properly configured it does a great job and does a number of things that MS does not do. I do run this every other week but did have a bit of a problem a week ago as I was trying to get rid of a number of plugins. Unfortunately if you run the chrome browser it will have you log out of your Chrome Account which has it's own system to know these plugins. I had just moved and signing back into multiple G-Mail Accounts became a nightmare. Be sure to have all of your PW's and info on hand.

HP Pavilion Laptop (17-ar50-wm)

]I give this a tentative thumbs-up. I did a restore point prior to install.

After installation & activation (without issue), I let it discover all drivers, and let it update where it wanted. The query came up with an update selection of 13 vs. 123 were fine.

I allowed all 13 to update.

Generic tests for media access and use (video&audio) all clean. Drive access okay, mouse okay, etc.

Tested using a game I play often that is taxing to the system.... The mouse function (as game controller) stuck in one motion after limited use.

With un-intuitive use, I restored the previous driver for the psp 2.0 function, and everything is working well.

End result? The updates improved some legginess with Bluetooth update, and with cleaned up some audio kludge (pop & snap) in game play with the realtek audio update.

My end conclusion? If you know what you are doing (very PC literate) this is a good product app to try. If not, you could end up having to restore everything to get back to where you were prior to installing this app.

Be smart and install/use only if you are capable of returning to the state you were in prior to the install of this app.

Installed over prior GOTD version (6.2.1 from Feb. 2019). I had not previously allowed Driver Booster to perform any actions as at that time I was having trouble diagnosing what my system's Dell SupportAssist was also trying to do about updating drivers and did not want to complicate matters and possibly "brick" my system. (I recently/finally corrected SupportAssist.)

Today I took it slow and started by checking Driver Booster settings. Most important to me was to ensure the selection box was checked for "Only display drivers that pass WHQL tests".

I also made sure the options for "Automatically create a system restore point before a driver is installed" and "Automatically backup a driver before it is installed" were selected; and I unchecked the "Launch automatically at System Startup" and "Automatically update Drivers while the system is idle" as I did not want any automatic actions taking place this first time.

I ignored the big 'Update" button and unchecked the box that would have taken action on all outdated drivers at once.

Next I looked for the oldest driver for the least impacting device (mine was Bluetooth) and updated it. All seemed to go smoothly.

Then, in turn, I looked for the next-oldest/least impactful driver (or driver "family" to update together) and updated that and continued with occasional restarts (reboots) as either I (depending on my perceived system-critical importance of the device or family of drivers) saw fit or IObit Driver Booster recommended.

And... all went smoothly! All drivers report as up to date. I've "casually" tested out my audio and video functions (Can I still play a YouTube clip in a browser? Yes!), yesterday's IRIS title still works to affect the display, all auto-start (launch at Startup) apps are working, no other apps launched are misbehaving (so far).

Thanks IObit and GOTD!

I get error on activation :

Eddie,

For your particular situation, it looks like your HOSTS file has the iObit activation URL in it. Find it, then place a # (pound-sign) character in front of that line to comment it out.

Where do you find it? %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc (it is the file HOSTS without an extension)

You will need Administrative Rights to make the change. Best of luck to you.

I installed the free version of Driver Booster a couple of months ago because I hadn't checked for updates in a long while. I ran the app and then chose to update most of the long list of drivers it showed me. To my surprise, my computer started speeding along like the old days. I hadn't expected that. This is a great application from a great company. Grab it while you can.

just 4.2 months left of the 6 months. Also, I am suggesting to use it carefully, i.e. create a system- restore point before using this (or create an image).

Achim, A restore point is always good, but it does create an image backup of the Pre updates that can be restored as well.

[ uredes ],

ALL IObit software does other tasks than the main one.

This removes "ghost" calls for non-existent devices, and offers to fix devices that are in error, fix networking, sound, offers to install Microsoft and Adobe system enhancements, and more.

And ALL IObit software works in free mode with most features after the PRO license time is over.

Try it and let us know what you think of the suite of features in IObit Driver Booster.

Thanks for exploring this.

uredes,

Win10's driver update function, as has been the case in all versions of Windows, is garbage. Their database is woefully outdated from the moment you install Windows, and many if not most hardware manufacturers no longer send Microsoft their latest drivers.

As far as Microsoft is concerned, the generic drivers they include with the Windows installation is good enough, and for you, maybe it is. For some, it is not nearly good enough.

Reply   |   Comment by DD  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

uredes, Windows update does not update manufacturer specific drivers, except perhaps Intel. When you install Windows, Microsoft provides generic drivers so that you can at least start the system. If you have purchased a particular brand of system, the manufacturer may have designed the system in a unique, they may say "better" way, using their selection of parts. There are gazillions of parts for a function. You must get the vendor's latest version for YOUR system. It will not come from Microsoft in any Microsoft Windows update. A new generic driver MAY come from Microsoft. It may lack special features provided by your manufacturer. This program presumable, with their immense database, claims to have gone to all the known vendors and obtained all the latest drivers for every part. (Probably if they can't find one, they may provide that Microsoft generic more recent driver, as it may be fixing a security vulnerability. They should do that if the manufacturer has discontinued support, or has not yet released the vulnerability-fixed driver.) We hope iObit is rally fast in getting the latest driver. That's why this product will save you the time of going through your system and checking EVERY SINGLE driver to see if you have the latest. Some folks believe that "if the system is working, new drivers are not needed." Probably true, but if you are taking Windows updates, that doesn't mean that Microsoft will not update you with a later generic driver to protect against possible flaws.
If you see a driver in this program that might worry you, go to the manufacturer's website and see if there is one you do trust. Could be a lot of work for the paranoid.

Peter Blaise, I wish I could have but due to being visually impaired (I only use a screen reader & a keyboard but I spent 15 minutes or so trying to use my mouse to register with over an hour left). As usual iobit software wouldn't work for me (it's possible I used the same email twice I was hurrying to start with cuz I thought I was under an hour). Oh well maybe your company will support the visually impaired but hardly anyone else on GAOTD does so I'd be surprised if your company does (winx straight they where sorry but screen readers & their software won't work together).

I feel lied to but sadly I'm getting used to that as I get blinder.
