I know a program that converts midi to mp3 very easily and quickly. Although it doesn't support the command line, it can process a bunch of files at once, you only need to drag and drop the files. It's called Fast MIDI to MP3 Converter. I always use it when I need to listen to the music on mp3 player.

Downloaded, installed, activated, ran, worked perfectly, but now it has reverted to trial version. I guess free is worth what it costs.

I downloaded this program and activated it....the first time I tried to use it, January 6th it said I was on day 3 of a 30 day trail...what gives...I thought it was supposed to be a GIVEAWAY like all the other files here?????

Downloaded Direct Audio Converter and CD Ripper on the day offered, immediately tried to activate numerous times and have tried several times every day since but to no avail. Being free is no good if I cannot activate, always times out. Don't think I will try anything else.

Awww come on Matt! If you d'loaded and forgot to install and activate on the right day then you missed out. If a giveaway offer has expired, and it was a program that would be useful to you then you always have the option to BUY that program later. (I'm considering that right now on a couple previous offers that were missed before I knew about this site, but wouldn't have even known those progs existed before finding this site and checking the previous offers!) Everybody has a job and other things to do. But if you don't have 10 minutes within 24 hours to check the site, d'load, install, and activate then you don't have time to play with any software either. ;)

Yes of course, transcoding from one lossy format to another for compatibility issues could be useful for some but it pays to know that this does degrade sound quality. There ARE 'purists' who make use of lossy codecs at higher bit rates as a trade off to be able to use super-portable small flash players while sacrificing the least amount of sound quality, so making the broad assumption that purists "never" use lossy codecs is simply wrong. The fact that this program rips to FLAC or uncompressed WAV makes it quite a terrific program. The best option (providing one has sufficient disk space) is to rip all CDs into FLAC or uncompressed WAV, then convert for compatibility as needed for each device used.

If the WMA files you are trying to convert to MP3 are DRM protected files then it won't work, as of course it shouldn't.

What a POS program. I downloaded it but did not have time to install it and now it's not free. Forget giveawayoftheday, if you guys think we all have time to sit in front of our computers and do everything within a specified amount of time. Some of us have other things to do.

On the bright side, iTunes can't get it right either.

Yea, bails out on certain filename characters, and truncates filename if too long, haven't found a way to edit the filename from the application.

Right-Click on track -> File Properties does nothing. Can go in and edit tag properties for each and every track, (~9 tracks each cd for 6 cd collection), but still will truncate the names.

Nice try guys. I'll have to do some post-rip file renaming to get the names right.

Feh. Problem with renaming output files, it's not doing it correctly. Sometimes I get 'albumname-tracknumber-song.mp3', sometimes i get 'song.mp3'. For an album with more than one adagio section (classical music), it wants to overwrite a previous ripped track.

Bugs. Linux and a perl script can do the same more reliably.

I installed it and activated it just as it says in readme.txt but still program say trial-version. I install these programs always when i downloaded them and activate them. Activation said all was ok but i still have a trial version. I checked activate.exe as some ppl said but i am not good in reading this so ..... HELP.

All right.. No you CAN NOT copy files to an IPOD with this (IPOD's are being synchronized via ITUNES, which is freely available from Apple for MS Windows just as well as for MacOS. As for the activation code: scroll down and read the ENTIRE text when you hit activate. Crashes after installing: run disk cleanup and check your computer for spyware and viruses. If 300 ppl install the software just fine, and you have a problem, then the problem is very likely on your end, and not the software :)

Had no problems installing, registering, or using it. Converted from a CD and from other files. Pretty intuitive interface with buttons to add files, CD tracks, and convert them. Tag editing could have been done better, but ah well.

Can i copy files directly to an iPod player with this program?

For #53, how'd you do that? I cannot seem to add my WMA files, it won't take them. I want to convert them to MP3's, but it won't even let me put them into the interface for converting. :~( Other than that, it activated & registered okay and seems to work well. Give Away of the Day has released some pretty good stuff, keep up the great work, hats off to ya! Now, if I can just figure out how to convert my WMA'S TO MP3'S...

Run activate.exe. A screen will pop up with registration code and instructions.. Copy and paste code as instructed. Done.

Ron, use both the registration name and the key provided by the activate.exe file. Both are there, just scroll the window down.

I have downloaded many things that worked great but this still gives a trial and I cant activate it to full version.

More often than not I have had problems with activate.exe either never connecting or giving the error message: "Failed to connect. Please try again later." ...this has become a great waste of time, disk space, etc. All procedures have been followed exactly as stated, attempted repeatedly, the install period ends and I am left with an unregistered product. Could the staff PLEASE address this issue!

Program installed fine, but when I tried to run it, it gave me an error:
"Couldn't Initialize Digital Output
Error Code: 3"

yea, no. it might have been that simple for you, yet others seem to have gotten a rotten download, hence the cannot connect error, the corrupt download error, and the softwares uncanny inability to register.
run the activate.exe, it gives a registration NAME ( Giveawayoftheday ), yet no registration number. Is this the way its supposed to be? if so, then then DAC is a faulty POS application. If its not supposed to be this way, then activate.exe is a faulty POS application. In addition, looking at the number of complaints i have seen on this site today, and noticing that the giveawayoftheday.com crew ain't all over these problems, tells me someone has their head where the sun don't shine.

This looked interesting, so I d/l'd it and followed the instructions.

When I run the software, a window pops up with the following message:

Direct Audio Converter & CD Ripper has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So I uninstalled and re-downloaded it and tried it again. Same thing happened.

I then went to the Piston Software site, downloaded the software, installed it, and got the same message.

I'm running XP Media Center edition.

I've downloaded software from giveawayoftheday.com before with no problems.

Same problem as Ken. Click on activate after install and it says to come back later, connection is not available. Only I dont have time to come back later.

Nice program, but best to use it only as a CD ripper or to convert only from lossless formats. Converting from FLAC or uncompressed WAV to MP3, OGG, WMA, etc is ok. But it's a bad idea to convert from one lossy format to another, such as converting from MP3 to OGG, etc. This does NOT improve sound. You have to understand how compression formats work, but it's not too difficult.

All compression formats remove parts of sound that human ears may not be able to hear anyway ("lossy" for losing sound), then compress what's left into a smaller file size. Each compression format removes different parts of sound. So if you have an already compressed file (like an MP3) and then convert it to another (like OGG) you will be removing MORE parts of sound, and remember each format removes different parts. You then recompress what's left. This whole process leaves you with a file that sounds WORSE, not better, than the original file because you have now removed more sound parts (caused more loss) and compressed the leftovers twice.

To #31 - actually for the programs I have downloaded so far, I ran the activation .exe first then did the install. But I agree with you - what is the problem?? You run the activation program and that turns it into the full version. The people who run this website could not have made it any clearer about this, and the only thing they could do now is to actually come over your house and install it for you!

Is there something wrong with the zip-file?
When i try to open it, i get a message that says the file is invalid or damaged. So, i've redownlaoded the file (several times), but that doesn't seem to help.
What's going on? Can somebody help me out?
