It is unable to work with the very latest releases, i.e. The Shape of Water, there was something in their description about updating to handle the latest titles, but that may not be done very regularly. Having success with titles released last year. No watermarks on the rip that I could see.

It moved it's thermometer, finished in 100% of the time it would have taken to watch the movie, but only made a copy of the existing disc files under \user\me\appdata\ and did not produce the selected output movie file.

Oh well, maybe Dimo's next offering will excite me.

Peter Blaise, the procedure to rip the main movie is to click the Add Blu-Ray button without using the dropdown list options, then it should read the BD disc and find a number of titles, when done, it will display a dozen or more titles. The first one should be the main movie. Now to the right, select the format to rip to, I suggest choosing from one of the formats on the HD Video tab, with the gear icon letting you specify bitrate etc. Then click the Start button for title 1, and it will start converting the movie. Not fast, may take longer than the playing time of the movie, but results are good quality.

I downloaded and installed and used the code I got from their easter giveaway page using IE9... and yes there seems to not be any confirmation of registration, no menu options change at all and nothing in the About popup screen to indicate it's registered or not... not having a BD drive or BD disc folders I chose to use the downloader and downloaded a 1hour 25min whole album video and converted it from 1280x720 mp4 to HEVC same resolution and manually set the video bitrate to 1000kbps rather than accepting the silly large preset options and several hours later the resultant video file was 83MBytes about 6MBytes greater than the programs estimate. from an original 203MBytes AVC MP4 file. And no watermark like Alec experienced and the whole video was converted. So I believe it was registered. I am not impressed with HEVC codecs encoding a static image for the entire length of the video with it clearly using far too many overcompressed key frames when nothing has changed in the source video resulting in gross compression artifacts. This program is not A single program but a Gui controlling a number of smaller module executables that do the required grunt work behind the scenes and may mean each new child process may need to be approved depending upon your security suite especially since none of the executables are digitally signed. Also not sure if its a problem with my system needing to be rebooted or something but the Dimo BDmate entry on the Vista taskbar is a default no icon executable icon and nothing that makes any sense. Used a tool I use to view and extract icons from executables and DLL's and the file "DimoVideoConverterUltimate.exe" apparently does not contain any icons for windows to use! Their website writes about using the server tab to "cast" media to devices but in reality it does not "cast" media to anything which is a push activity to the devices but serves media as a simple web server for every folder instance you set up for serving and press share. There is a design flaw where one cannot STOP any of the configured and started servers other than by shutting down the entire program. My Smart TV that will accept UPNP allcast data and certain streaming video services via its browser and DLNA servers but cannot do anything with how this programs web server server provides content.

The converter module is multi-core processor aware... and maxes out the processor... I moderated the extended thermal stress on my laptop by adjusting the processor affinity so kmcvt.exe only used 1 CPU core instead of both... yes it slowed it further but I prefer to have it take longer than thermally stress the machine for long periods of time as it would have taken hours with both cores anyway. I don't see any indication that this tool uses any GPU acceleration.

TK, Eww if I click the "+" button next to the URL entry box on the downloader tab then the program writes a randomly named ececutable into the users temp folder and spawns it which means if you have a strong anti-malware scheme you will have to approve the new temporary executable, and grant it internet access, each time you press the + button! and it won't remember the setting next time as the executable is given a new name each time it is created and spawned! The spawned program dumps log files in the form of 3C3F.tmp.cat that seems to capture the output of the temporary executable which is originally called youtube_dl.exe and the cat file apears to act as a pipe to let the GUI get progress feedback from the commandline youtube downloader. There is no facility with this downloader to choose what particular youtube media file is downloaded. And there is no clean-up of the .cat files generated by the youtube download process. only the temporary commandline executable is deleted after it exits.

Well, the copy (mp4) looks great, but it will only record/convert/copy just under 30 min, on any BD I use. Yes, I registered it correctly for those who would ask. Limited professional copy I guess.

Since the https://www.mediadimo.com/easter-giveaway does NOT ask for our email, but only tries to tease us to buy stuff, what's the problem with including the registration key in the GOTD download for a one-stop GOTD experience?
----------
The struggles that others share indicate that GOTD could exert some criteria restrictions before passing on any vendor's offerings, such as:

-- they must live up to promises, including reinstating working versions of software that becomes dysfunctional due to premature registration expiration averse to promises,

-- they must allow GOTD users to confirm registration, in this case, waiting until hours after initial testing to convert a disc as promised only to have a watermarked video that is no better than self-discovery of a web trial version is an abuse of the GOTD platform and loyal GOTD participants.

Such a "GOTD Software Gold Standard" would be good VENDORS as well as good for loyal GOTD participants, and, especially good for the quality and longevity of GOTD's renowned reputation.

What say?

--Program Installed ok, but could not even get this program downloader to work on any online videos tried like youtube and others.Always, just say: Error-No reason or help given, even most free converter programs can do this with ease. This program needs a lot of improvements.
**This program is just too limited in features and options, Nothing special in the features, compared to similar programs like this.
This Program really needs more custom improvements and enhancement options & features to make worthwhile. Cheers!

The Good:
Installed fine on win7-64 bit, no issues with getting the link or the reg code, no problems inserting the reg code.
It does have a reasonable interface, multiple output options handles hevc265.
Used a 60 second 720p source clip for conversion testing, took my 9 meg 264 and turned it into a 65 meg 265 file. (Not impressed) went in to customize and they only support fixed bitrate conversions. Not very efficient. The resulting quality was good but when your output is 7x larger there should be little perceptive quality loss.
The package has no editing capacity at all, but it does have an edit button which apparently supports multiple profe$$ional editing packages.

The poor:
It did convert to a TS pretty fast, but that's all it did, no attempt to create a blue ray structure, convert to iso was simply the source file in an iso.

The bad:
I tried 3 youtube urls all failed, without a useful error message.

I did not try the video sharing portion of the package so I cannot comment on its usability in that function.

John aa, the bit rates are not fixed, they are just stupidly high bitrate suggestions totally unrelated to the codec or template selected. You can manually type into the bitrate selection box and by default numbers entered are bits per second, so 1000 = 1kbps NOT 1000kbps etc. it may parse 1000kbps or 1Mbps I never tested it. But if you want decimal 1Mbps input 1000000 into the video bitrate input selector box.

Dimo offers different products 'under the same hood', so you'll always get the Video Downloader and Media Server as a bonus on board, which is helpful, i guess.

Since i have no Blu-ray laying around somewhere, i can't test this very feature, sadly but all the other things worked fine. Also downloaded a Youtube video and converted it without any watermark being present in the final video, in contrary to what's been posted under comment #2.

PDF manual, comparison chart and all other information can be found here: https://www.mediadimo.com/bdmate/guide

Only question that remains is if the activation will hold or if it will get blacklisted in a few weeks. The program seems to be registered fine but there is still a option in the menu to register afterwards, which also was the case for MXF Converter 4.0 from Februrary this year here on GOTD. A registered program shouldn't show anymore to register it once it's done, it's only very confusing for the end user.

Very nice app with a lot of features yet the UI is straightforward and makes it easy to use. Decent on screen help let's you get most things done with a few clicks. Based on the nice implementation I'm going to look at getting some of their own apps.

Registration was a bit odd due to the standard page with a requirement to click on the Get It Now button, but it worked fine.

I paid for this as it's only $10 but I don't think I will be using it much as it has taken over 1.15 hours to convert 50% of a 4 gb blue-ray movie from an I5 hp machine which I consider to be quite fast. This was copied from Blu-Ray dvd to HD first, it also runs at 100% cpu
Not very impressed with this program at all.
@Ritchi Freudenkinder TK answer is the correct answer to my comment.

Alec, conversion is kinda slow, that's true and the displayed size estimate was always wrong in my case, not just a few MB but hundreds of MB. Did you get the watermark in the video again or is it fine now?

Reply   |   Comment by kui_  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

kui_, 4.9 Gb movie ended up as 10Gb and took same time as movie length. Never managed to get rid of watermark in registered version, however with paid version it's gone, so $10 did the trick.

Reply   |   Comment by Alec  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Alec, with the Download I saved a movie from YouTube as a .webm file with 335 MB. Then I used the Converter to make an Avi. The program shows a rising of the size to 6.05 GB (however, all conversion possibilities show this size!) and need less than 1 hour for converting. The result has 797 MB, much less than predicted from the program. There is no watermark in the movie, so all went good.

I gave it a try to see if Blu-ray copy worked -- it did not.

I was curious since Blu-ray software is a bit rare today -- not only is it more a niche market [compared to the popularity of DVDs at their peak], but the companies that provide Blu-ray DRM are very willing to take the matter to the courts. Fentao [DVDFab] was forced out of the US, including the use of US payment companies/services, while SlySoft sold their biz & closed their doors.

SO I monitored the install in a VM [more on that later] & gave it a try with a newly released disc, Jumanji. Didn't work, so I booted into 10, fired up Shadow Defender [so no permanent changes] installed BDmate, & tried again -- wouldn't work there either. In both cases it coped the folder structure, & ~ 300 MB of files, but no video whatsoever. Now it may work on older discs, & Dimo may provide an update to handle whatever DRM is present on that Jumanji disc, but assuming Dimo does update the software for new DRM, you will have to buy the app to get updates.

That said, the software itself is not too intrusive, with files in the program's folder, under [UserName] & [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\, & under ProgramData. It also adds a copy of Microsoft's C/C++ runtimes, which are added to the WIndows\ System32 folder rather than the perhaps more standard Windows\ WinSxS. And it does change one of the Windows Media Player settings in the registry.

The app itself is the more-or-less standard ffmpeg-based converter, with a downloader attached. While the downloads appear the same, I used the setup app from the Dimo site rather than the one sent by GOTD. Running the app unactivated I got a nag screen when it started -- after activation I did not.

Worked very well for me. These usually go for around $50.00. On this site they say it is $59.95. On their website that amount is crossed off and says $39.95. Seems companies are always trying to inflate the true cost of their product on this site, perhaps to make people think they're getting a better bargain than they really are. Can't complain with 'free' though.

Ripping to a m2ts was rather quick, but the file size was 36G. Wanting to rip to a mp4 hevc noticed the size was 8.5G, so I used a different video converter (Aimersoft) to convert the m2ts file to a size of 2.3G.

Definitely a keeper, though does not support hardware acceleration, but it's FREE!

Strange that after you register it there is no indication that it's registered.

This is rather absurd. How can there be a 24hr Giveaway time limit when their website states April 30 as the limit. Why is there no way to confirm that the product has, in fact, been registered?

Reply   |   Comment by dave  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

dave, GAOTD works on a system of 24 hours (except for android & iphone giveaways which are erratic) while there may be a free offer on their site lasting longer. But many people will see it on this site and not know that their site exists. It has to be cleared out of the way by tomorrow to make way for something else. I see nothing absurd in this.
Your second question I will leave for others to answer. This is not the type of programme that I have any use for, so I cannot judge it.

Copy and paste the code with no blank space. You can "Ctrl + C" and "Ctrl

to notice that.
And after that, click "Register" to confirm. If the register window

the green botton 'Get It Now' is not a link, but, maybe, something like a script. If this botton will not work, it is a problem of your browser like a missing java or a pop-up blocker. Try another browser.

Ritchi Freudenkinder, I think he means after doing a conversion to another format, when viewing that resultant video he sees a watermark with "Dimo BDmate on the screen" which should not be there with a properly registered program.
