Very poor interface. It's hard to know what to do without using the help file (which, to be fair, is reasonably straightforward). The results are no better than I could get in Photoshop and often quite a bit worse. The inside layer/outside layer selection matte process is messy and far from accurate. Even something as simple as closing the programme is an exercise in patience tnanks to dialogues which ask if you really want to close/save your work etc. One click of the wrong button and you're back to square one. Not great to be honest. Oh and for those who are asking: the programme is fairly slim just 27MB. The rest os made up of background images.

Mac users should be aware that the latest version of the OS won't allow this to be installed. I tried everything, including changing the date in case the security certificate had expired but got the same message: the package is untrusted.

This version, according to them, has some good new features. https://www.projects-software.com/sale/cutout-8 Seems worth updating my existing version.

I do have to say the User Interface on this program is much different than the other Franzis Projects programs I am familiar with, and not as intuitive. Don't let that discourage you from trying other Franzis programs.

Can the prog be installed on an external hard drive
Save | Cancel
vinesh chhabra, don't see why not. It will add files/folders to the Users folder, and a few registry entries, so it won't be portable, but should work the same.

mike, how much will go onto the external drive and how much in users folders? Does this include over a gig of sample content or something?

TK, I copied the program folder to my Win11 VM, monitoring 1st run & activation. It added the Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ Light Developer\ folder with 2 1KB files - my regular copy of Windows has 4 files, three 1KB & one 0KB, plus a Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ Stepok Softwares\ folder with 0 files. The registry got one new key for Stepok [stepok.com]. By copying the program folder I avoided the installer registry entries and the Microsoft C/C++ runtimes, which add several files and quite a few new registry entries. FWIW, most Franzis apps add a folder sharing the app's name in Users\ [UserName]\ with 10-20 files,

File downloads, program opens, screen visible for a few moments and then crashes to desktop. How to fix?

Richard, it uses the Microsoft C/C++ runtime, installing an older version. You can try installing the latest version to make sure everything is cool on that front.

You can also try the different compatibility settings. Right-click cutout.exe and you *can try* Troubleshoot compatibility, though Microsoft is doing away with it so it may or may not work. You can also right-click the app and select properties, trying the settings on the Compatibility tab. I have it set to run in compatibility mode to Win8, and there are several other settings you can try. FWIW it does run in Win11 23H2.

What can I say. All Franzis Projects software are high quality and they always offer lifetime versions. They may require a little effort to register the first time but after that it is simple and well worth it.

rww, Yes, did all that. Have the codes. Ran the program. You note "use the codes to finish the registration" I have not been prompted for a place for the codes.

rww, the problem is that we're not seeing a prompt or link to enter the registration info. The program opens fine, but I can't find anyplace to register within it.

I monitored running & activating the app in a Win11 VM so I could answer TK's question. When I started the app it showed a pop-up window saying I had 30 days trial left, with a text box for entering the key & a button to activate. If you're not seeing that maybe search for folders & registry keys with the name stepok or light developer & delete those to get rid of any old keys.

Gonna try this one- but note that the download is massive, 1.27 GB!!

Jeff, maybe because Franzis often includes a MAC version. The installed app takes up 646MB with 408 Files /15 folders
