After an initial BIG thumbs up, today I removed Clipdiary again.

Why?

At least on Vista, the program does not work well with UAC. Meaning, often pasting will not work, like the program does not have access to some protected processes.

I changed the key settings to: ctrl v (paste as text) & ctrl shift v (paste with clipboard viewer).

For example, ctrl c from within in zipped folder for 1 or more files will not work when Clipdiary is active.

Also pasting into chrome often failed.

I tried to solve it by not auto-starting Clipdiary, but to schedule a task to run at user login (of course, run with highest privileges etc.). Hoping the explicit admin rights would repair the paste options, I got disappointed. It does not solve anything :/

And a paste program that cannot paste... Big NONO ;p

So I re-enabled Spartan once more.

PS: there is also a bug. When you assign quick keys that are already used, the program messes it up totally. One can usually fix it by OK and re-entering the options, but on my other computer (which already had an older version of CD installed) the program now hopelessly 'crashes': I cannot access the screen anymore because it's cycling focus very very very fast. Only task manager can kill the process. Restarting CD immediately gives the same problem. Too bad, you lost me....

Bye bye :P

TO ALL THOSE HAVING DIFFICULTY REGISTERING

I've just installed clipdiary on WinXP & Win7 machines and registering went like a breeze. This is what I did:

Activate FIRST. You'll see the successfully activated message pop up.

Run Setup.exe. Let it run thru to the last box. DON'T CLOSE THIS WINDOW until you've UNCHECKED the 'Open program' box (or whatever it says there)

Now close this final installation window.

Go to your 'Start programs' menu at Start button. Find the Clipdiary entry, Click on it and program will open.

Go to HELP > ABOUT.

If I recall correctly, at this point a message appears confirming that the software is registered to GiveAwayoftheDay.

All done! Hope this can still help someone.

Further note (since I cannot modify my last post).
As pointed out by some others, the list is ordered in first (oldest clip) to last (newest clip).
This is probably a DEAL-BREAKER for me.
As I will usually want to be seeing what I have copied most recently, not what I copied last day or last week or last month.

If developer can provide option to most-recent-first, then I may keep this app. Otherwise, probably be removing.

Installed onto Win XP Pro SP3.

Activation procedure yields confusing result:
Activation seems to work, GOTD mini window pops up and says activated, Browser is opened automatically and sent to GOTD you-are-now-activated page. (a practice which I don't like but guess have to live with for GOTD).

Program shows 'evaluation version, 29 days left.'

SECRET IS:
Must exit/close the ClipDiary program.
Then restart the ClipDiary program.
Now check ABOUT and it shows that it has been activated to GOTD.

It would probably save a lot of questions if this extra step was explained by GOTD in the page or installation instruction.

For those that can't unlock this program, I had the same problem until I figured out what I was doing wrong. Try this:

1. Right Click on your ClipDiary icon in the Systray and click on Exit.
2. Click on Activate again. Don't know if it is necessary or not (I only started using Win 7 today) but I did a right click and 'Run As Administrator; on the Activate icon.
3. Start up ClipDiary again and hey presto, it is unlocked.

Nikolay Tiushkov or someone from his team :

I am having the same problem with registration as # 58, 57, 54, 53, 36, 35, 33, 30 and others.
The activate.exe tells program is activated, but Clipdiary still shows 29 days left.. for evaluation.
Since so many people are experiencing the same - it isn`t probably our fault.
Would developer be so kind and fix the problem, please!
Regards
GW

RuthMarie and richardM

After installation please click Help>About Clipdiary. In the new window, click on “Enter a license key” button located on the left side, and then in a new window click on the “Register it” button. Please note that the registration key gets inserted automatically. In the next step you will be asked to restart Clipdiary.

It worked for me. Hope it helps.

Cheers,

#57 and 58, etc.,--I should have added that the surest way to stop them once started in to reboot, unless of course it is set to automatically start running on startup. Otherwise, Task Manager should take care of it as long as you can identify them all. One other sure solution is to uninstall it and reinstall it, taking care to uncheck the box calling for starting of Clipdiary before clicking on the Finish button. I've had this problem so many times that I automatically uncheck it now. Oh, and don't forget to reboot after uninstalling or you'll be right back where you started from, with it running in the background again. Good Luck.

#57, 58 & probably others, too: Once Clipdiary is opened, it keeps running in the background, which is undoubtedly what is keeping it from being activated. All Clipdiary processes and/or services need to be closed for the Activation.exe to work.

Clipdiary Help is not opening in 64-bit Win 7 on my AMD tri-core CPU. (Strangely enough, it works fine on my 64-bit Win 7 AMD dual-core PC.) When I try, it gives error 1156 (failed to open URL), if that is sufficient explanation, since the error message content is un-clipboard-able, if there is such a word. It sure would be nice if someone could tell me how to fix it. I'm not real worried about it since there is the wizard to refresh me on how to use the program and I can go directly to their web site (even though McAfee SiteAdvisor gives it a warning--what's up with that?), but there seems to be a bug here and Google shows no reliable source for a solution. Other than that, the program appears to be working just fine so far. I almost forgot, the initial settings did not include how many clips to keep available, so I had to hunt it down in Files/Options/Database. The default of 20000 is a little extreme, so I pared it down to "only" 100, which should be more than enough to handle my needs.

If the diary uses a local db isn't it going to fill a hard drive fairly quickly? I mean, I use the clipboard A LOT and I can just see this thing getting huge.

I ran the "Activate" file and it said my version of ClipDiary is now registered, but when I run ClipDiary, go to Help >> Enter Registration Key, it is blank there. It's asking for me to enter a registration key. Is this another one of those "it's really registered, although it doesn't look like it" situations?

So, meanwhile had some time to install and test it:

+ works well - and I´ve been using such tools since many, many years. belongs to the better an more funtional ones.

- ClipX (bluemars.org/clipx/) is free, works VERY similar and needs much less RAM.

While there could be said a lot about clipping/pasting abilities (e.g. formats, foreign languages ...) I just want to state: Good product but as for me: I will stay with ClipX!

FYI - Zemanna Anti-logger gave a warning during installation, said if not a valid program could do damage. I ignored it and installed Clipdiary.

After installation, below the links to blog, and Clipdiary FAQ the link to "Flashpaste" keeps triggering a malware warning from Avast anti-virus. No page loads for that link. The link below to "Flashnote" works and did not trigger any warnings.

I'm eager to try this as I've used other clipboard managers and find them very useful.

Interesting program, but there appear to be some simple shortcomings...

(1) Systray icon.
(A.) Change the icon to show whether monitoring is selected.
(B.) Add an Option so that clicking on the icon can toggle monitoring rather than display Clipdiary.

(2) Clipdiary display...
(A.) Include Date, time, size and Application name.
(B.) Tooltip doesn't show "header" when text is truncated.
(C.) Tooltip should update (or at least close) when user moves to another entry.
(D.) Add facility to extract to a text/csv file, the Clipdiary display. (To be honest, not much use without (A.) above.)
(E.) As frequently mentioned, display should be in descending date/time sequence.

A more complicated (?) shortcoming is that the data base is not encrypted.

Finally, I almost decided _not_ to download the program because I was concerned about the massive overhead when copying and pasting files. Of course, this was foolish of me as, with hindsight, only the file details (as opposed to data) goes to the clipboard. So, two things...

(3) Make it clear that file data isn't stored for file Copy+Paste. Also, please provide an explanation of the individual formats referred to in the "Problem formats" option.

(4) Give user the option to specify the maximum amount of data to be stored for an individual copy.

With a few small tweaks, I can see this program quickly becoming one of my must-haves,
Many Thanks,
David.

I don't understand the negative vote. I got this last time and use it all the time. I wasn't able to find a free alternative for my new computers and therefore quickly installed it on the four computers that I now own. I run a small business selling books on the Internet where it is invaluable for copying repetitive information.

Been using 2.1 daily since the last time offered. Have even thought about upgrading ($) for a couple months.
Installed over the old version just fine - XP sp3(speaking of updating!) kept ALL my old clips, 28 pages - back to April 2009.
Search works much better.
Will make a note to buy in 6 months.
Thumb up.

This is a really helpful tool. Normally when I want to save a list of links, or bits of text, I'd have to open up Notepad and copy them down one by one, and then refer back to it when I wanted to use them again (A VERY frequent occurrence with me, considering how often I stream for my friends).

Now, I can just copy them all, and bring them back up on a whim. Not only does it have a hotkey to bring up the clipboard (usually, I'd have to open up the specific Notepad document) and hotkeys to quickly cycle between clips (So instead of opening up the clipboard and clicking on the thing I want, I can re-copy the previous thing immediately, and keep going without breaking my flow), it will also show the name of a video on YouTube right in the tooltip (so I can tell right away where that link is taking me. Useful, since I tend to have dozens of them copied down at once)!

I'm quite pleased with this. It's very simple, yet surprisingly useful.

The best clipboard organizer I've ever used is Yankee Clipper, which I've relied upon for years now. As a full-time freelance writer/author/editor, I create a tremendous amount of written material every day. YC3 not only keeps old clippings, but also organizes entire paragraphs, letters, and other saved documents that you use over and again into boilerplates. Just give it a name, click on it, and it will auto-paste wherever you click your cursor -- in a new document, an e-mail, etc. Truly a work of art. The freeware version is here: http://www.intelexual.com/products/yc3/. I liked it so much that I spent the $14.95 to upgrade for life. Thanks GAOTD for all your fine work.

Hello. Whilst the software itself installs fine, the new Activation software that comes with the last few GOTD offers will not install on my system. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, and I receive the following error message when I try any of the compatibility modes:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

I would like to know whether this is an isolated case, or whether other users are experiencing the same problem? Prior to the new Activation software I had no such issues, and on my wife's Windows 7 Home Edition laptop there is never a problem, and I don't even need to use the compatibility program....if anyone can enlighten me on this issue I would be grateful. Thank you.

Activate.exe verifies the correct GAOTD day, & presets the registration data
Setup.exe is the Clipdiary setup program

W7 x64
v3.42

install looks clean, 9 MB into the directory of your choice

licensed to "giveawayoftheday"

stores its (clip, sqlite) database in \AppData\Roaming\Clipdiary\
& i don't see a way to change that?
(though there is a forum thread, not read yet, on "portability")
clipdiary-portable.exe looks to work, once you enter the key :-)
(portable version shows as a v3.4 vs 3.42. don't know if that
has any significance?)

no Help file, only its Wizard
though there is an online forum: http://softvoile.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14
and FAQ: http://clipdiary.com/faq.php

thinking this is not a bad program
certainly worth a look & looks to be professionally developed
just have to figure if it holds any advantage to CLCL which i've been using for a LONG time

(the ability to have an EXTENSIVE clip history could be one)

Years and years and years ago, when
FF and IE continually crashed, I
began looking for a tool that I
could use to copy/save urls (because
FF and IE did not recover opened pages)

I found ClipDiary after many, many
different tryouts with loads of
different, similar programs..

ClipDiary was the hands down winner
out of all of the programs I tried.

I LOVE this little program. It's
simple and takes up virtually no
space... hangs onto everything until
you dump it.

You can now search for things and,
when you copy something, it's highlighted
in red.

Tiushkov Nikolay responds to email
and is incredibly helpful. He also
listens to suggestions.

The updates for the paid software
are pretty cool, too...

Thanks Tiushkov Nikolay and GOATD :)

PS: only two things I did not like...

1. All clipboard items are ordered oldest first. I do not like that. I'd like to have the latest item added to the top! There is no option to change this, surprisingly enough :s

2. Registration and activation: only works on a per user account basis. Install and register for User_One, will leave User_Two UNREGISTERED! Today you can easily activate for all accounts, but I don't know what will happen in the future when you transfer all your settings to a new user account...

Keeper! I closed down previous giveaway of Spartan and made this tool my default.

Why?

From: http://alternativeto.net/software/clipdiary/about
Clipdiary clipboard manager saves the complete clipboard history. With this windows clipboard manager you can reuse everything you were once copying - text, pictures, html links and even files!

Our clipboard manager automatically launches at Windows startup and then stores in its database every piece of data that goes to the clipboard. Clipdiary can log clipboard history and store data in various formats: plain text, RTF, HTML, images (BMP), files, and so on. For example, if you make a series of screenshots, Clipdiary automatically saves them all for you!

Clipdiary was added by willwm (Approved) 26-7-2010 and the lastest change was made 26-7-2010.

I've set the key combo from Ctrl D (default paste with this program) to Ctrl V.

This way, you can blindly Ctrl C whatever and with Ctrl V you will get a neat menu showing the current ànd previous clipboard contents. Double click / Enter and you pasted your selection.

Works simple while it has it all - including a large buffered history! Could be a privacy issue in the long run... But that's up to you.

Enjoy! This one : )

And... Peace!

Can I?

(1) delete individual items in the database ?

(2) flip its mode between RECORDING ON and RECORDING OFF ?

(3) set RECORDING OFF to be its default mode when it starts?

I want to know THAT these three requirements are met before even installi9ng thye program.
